Valeo at AUTOMECHANIKA

• A new signature for a new strategy

In March 2010 Valeo presented its new strategic plan focused on CO2 emissions reduction, innovation and increased

presence in emerging markets.

To support this strategy the Group has launched a new signature: “Automotive technology, naturally” in March 2010. «Automotive technology, naturally» are 3 simple words which perfectly summarize Valeo’s focus for the future: - “automotive”: defi nes Valeo sector of business; - “technology”: describes its main advantage and key driver for growth; - “naturally”: refl ects the dual meaning of “environmentally friendly” (CO

2 emissions reduction) which comes

naturally to Valeo.

“The demand for cleaner cars is not a passing trend, but a fundamental shift which will profoundly change the relationship that we have with our cars...Valeo has the products, technologies and the desire to offer its customers solutions that will allow them to reduce CO

2 emissions” Jacques Aschenbroich told investors gathered in Paris on March 10th 2010.

In the fi eld of CO2 emissions reduction, Valeo already offers many technological solutions for downsized internal

combustion engines and for hybrid and electric vehicles. Another key focus point is reduced component weight and energy consumption. Aquablade®, for example, reduces weight by 2 kg per vehicle. StARS, the Valeo Stop&Start system cuts the engine when the vehicle is stationary and generates fuel savings up to 15% in urban traffi c and also reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 15%.

This new signature was launched with a new corporate fi lm to present Valeo’s vision of the car of the future, seen through the eyes of children (future motorists) worldwide in Paris, New York and Shanghai.

• Valeo Group Structure

> The Valeo Group: a simplifi ed structure with four new Business Groups In order to enhance the Group’s profi tability and improve its effi ciency given the growing globalization of its markets and customers, Valeo has simplifi ed its organization into four Business Groups which cover the existing product families and the domains: - the Comfort and Detection Systems Business Group includes the Interior Controls and Security Systems

product families and the Driving Assistance domain; - the Powertrain Systems Business Group covers the Engine and Electrical Systems and Transmissions product

families and the Powertrain Effi ciency domain; - the Thermal Systems Business Group covers the Climate Control, Compressors and Engine Cooling product

> Valeo: committed to environmental protection

Valeo’s environmental protection policy contributes to the Group’s culture of continuous progress. Risk management and environmental protection are founded on a number of initiatives which are, by defi nition, long-term and wich Valeo committed for almost 15 years.

Energy saving: - development of products that reduce vehicle consumption; - optimization of energy-effi cient sites based on a common environmental culture; - reduction of emissions generated by transport. In 2009, Valeo’s environmental policy reduced the Group’s total energy consumption by 15%. 89% of Valeo sites are now certifi ed as compliant with the ISO 14001 environmental management standard.

Optimization of resources: - reduction in packaging: -20% in 2009 (-11% in 2008); - reduction of water consumption by sites.

Limiting and reusing waste: - currently approving the “eco-design standard directive” to reduce the environmental impact of end-of-life

products; - reduction of waste generated by sites.

Limitation of hazardous substances: - compliance with the ELV (end-of-life vehicles) directive for the development of products without heavy

metals; - elimination of hazardous substances used by sites.

In concrete terms, Valeo’s commitment to protecting the environment is refl ected by the development of innovative products and services, in particular: - reduced energy consumption and pollutant emissions with Valeo’s Stop-Start system, which does not affect

performance or driving comfort; - a complete remanufacturing process for three aftermarket product lines (starters, alternators and com-

pressors), including used core collection; - recycling of scrap materials during the remanufacturing process; - reduction of product packaging materials with smaller and more compact boxes made of recycled cardboard

whenever possible; - optimization of logistics fl ows by increased rail transport to a number of export markets, direct deliveries

to the transport agent, and a new Incoterm code for warehousing in the destination port; - hardcopy catalogues and sales documents printed on recycled paper or paper from managed forests.

> speed/visio®NOMADTM

The plug & play version of speed/visio®

Valeo is expanding its post-equipment range with speed/visio®NOMADTM, a plug & play version of its speed/visio®,

which displays the vehicle speed at eye level. The speed is projected directly onto the windscreen in the driver’s line of sight, and issues alerts when the programmed speed limit is exceeded.Developed from aeronautical technology, this innovative system reduces the risk of accident due to driver inattention. It also ensures the driver is more in control as it eliminates the need to look away from the road to check the vehicle speed, and makes it easier to stay within the speed limit.

The system uses GPS technology to determine vehicle speed – no special connection is required: - the vehicle speed is transmitted via satellite to the GPS chip embedded in the small screen fi tted to the

dashboard. The vehicle speed is then projected onto an oval-shaped fi lm attached to the windscreen, just beneath the driver’s line of sight. The speed can be read in varying light conditions, as the brightness of the display is adjusted automatically;

- the overspeed alert feature warns the driver when the preset speed is exceeded via a visual and/or audible alert. The driver can program up to fi ve different speeds for different driving environments. The system has fi ve preset default speeds to refl ect the most common speed limits in Europe (50, 90, 110, 120, 130 km/h). When the battery becomes depleted, the system memorizes the speeds set by the driver. A reset option can be used to return the system to the default settings if required.

The system can be easily installed by the driver: - easy set-up: it takes fi ve minutes to install speed/visio®NOMADTM

, which is compatible with all vehicles. - simple and practical to use: the wireless system has an integrated battery, making it fully autonomous. The

battery has a charge level indicator and can be directly charged via the cigarette lighter using the supplied connector. The speed/visio®NOMADTM

system is fully portable and is easy to transfer between two vehicles, for households with more than one car (the speed/visio®NOMADTM

kit includes 2 adhesive fi lms and 2 screen brackets).

> Uni-Click®

A unique connection system that covers 95% of European cars equipped with fl at blade wipers

Valeo has developed Uni-Click®, a universal connection system that can be used to connect a wiper blade to several types of arm. This reduces part numbers that Valeo’s customers are required to stock, thereby freeing up space. There are currently several different systems in use to attach wiper blades for just one vehicle range, so that distributors are required to stock a large number of different products. Uni-Click® allows them to considerably reduce the number of products stocked while maintaining coverage of the same vehicles.

Uni-Click® covers fi ve out of the six different connector types for the main fl at blade wipers, including the toplock and sidelock systems. The main advantage of Uni-Click® is that it covers Valeo’s Original Equipment connector, Gen 2D, which is used on around 20% of European vehicles.

The product performance and appearance comply with Original Equipment specifi cations, which are checked in an array of tests, some on a speed circuit.

Uni-Click® allows professionals to cover the same vehicles using fewer products, reducing the cost of stock due to the higher rotation of products.

• Original Equipment

> AquaBlade® Windscreen wiper and washing system

AquaBlade® is a revolutionary washing and wiping solution which improves driving safety and fl uid waste by evenly distributing washer fl uid across the windshield. Instead of fl uid being sprayed in jets from nozzles located on the bulkhead or hood like in the traditional wiper systems, fl uid comes directly out of tubes incorporated into the wipers along the length of the blades. Thus, driving safety is improved because the liquid is immediately wiped off enabling a better visibility. Furthermore, fl uid consumption is reduced in half enabling automakers to manufacture the reservoir half its normal size with a weight reduction of 2kg and CO

2 emissions reduction of 0.2g/km.

> 360VueTM

Visibility system that gives the driver a 360° view of the vehicle

360VueTM is a multicamera system enabling the driver to see all around the vehicle on a single display. The system gives the driver a virtual bird’s eye view of the vehicle’s immediate surrounding, facilitating parking and low speed manouvering. 360VueTM uses four mini cameras and a control unit processes all four video feeds in real-time and merges them into one optimized image. The impression of observing the vehicle and its environment from a bird’s eye view is created by superimposing an artifi cial top view of the vehicle. The system also allows the driver to select other views, such a conventional rear camera view or a front cross traffi c view, enabling the driver to see around corners when entering a street with poor visibility.

> Safe4UTM Innovative new front end module that reduces the severity of pedestrian injury by 20-40%

Made of energy-absorbing materials such as malleable steel, its architecture optimizes the passive protection of the vehicle’s occupants and pedestrians. Safe4UTM also has an active pedestrian detection system using a radar placed above the upper crosspiece and two cameras, one on each side of the bumper, which can distinguish pedestrians from other hazards. Once it has identifi ed the risk of collision, two actuators release the upper crosspiece from its supports in under 100 milliseconds. This allows the upper part of the front end to swing back, limiting the maximum effort and spreading it over a longer distance. The system is reversible: if the impact does not take place, the actuators move back into position and reconstitute the front end.

Innovations and focusValeo is unveiling two major innovations at Automechanika this year: a range of products for vehicles over 10 years old, and a range of automotive bulbs.

• Valeo CLASSIC

On 14 September 2010 at Automechanika, Valeo will launch Valeo CLASSIC, a range of products for D4 D5 segment vehicles: those over 10 years old with a high mileage.

There are currently 110 million vehicles in this segment in Europe, which is 40% of all Europe’s cars. It is therefore a high-potential market, especially as the average vehicle age in Europe is constantly rising, and because peoples’ relationships with their vehicles are always changing. This became particularly marked with the fi nancial crisis at the end of 2008 which forced some cuts in household spending. In order that this does not affect vehicle maintenance, professionals can now offer a quality alternative to premium products with the Valeo CLASSIC range.

While Valeo’s Premium range is aimed at drivers wishing to maintain their vehicles in their original condition for years, the new Valeo CLASSIC range is for drivers looking for quality parts to keep their old car in good working condition, but on a lower budget.

For the end customer, Valeo CLASSIC represents a saving of 20% to 40% compared with premium products, depending on the product line. All the products in this new range meet Valeo’s quality and performance criteria, at a price suited to the vehicle’s residual value.

For aftermarket professionals, Valeo CLASSIC comprises short ranges of high-turnover products that meet motorists’ needs in terms of quality and price. It is aimed at vehicles of more than 10 years old, many of which have more than 200,000 km on the clock, while few cover more than 7,000 km a year. For this type of vehicle, where professionals are very familiar with the technology and parts, a Valeo CLASSIC product is as quick and easy to fi t as a premium product.

To ensure each product range is easily identifi able, Valeo has developed a strong packaging scheme and identity. It is impossible to confuse the green boxes of Valeo’s premium range with the brown cardboard and Valeo CLASSIC logo of the new packaging for the D4 D5 segment. Initially, the Valeo CLASSIC range covers remanufactured alternators and starters. In all, it comprises 59 alternator products and 41 starter products, designed to give complete satisfaction to owners of this category of vehicle. This initial range covers 40% of European vehicles over 10 years old, which is 16% of all European vehicles. It is mainly sold in Germany, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and the UK, as well as Scandinavian and Central European countries.

Valeo CLASSIC is the best alternative for drivers wishing to reduce the maintenance costs of older vehicles without compromising on quality.

12

• New bulb range

Valeo will unveil its new bulb range at Automechanika 2010. With 80 years of experience in designing lighting and signaling systems, as well as its Original Equipment expertise, Valeo will launch fi ve new ranges of bulbs for cars at the end of 2010.

Valeo’s offer is simple but comprehensive, to meet the different needs of drivers : - a Premium range: the Valeo quality standard; - a Long-Life range of bulbs that last twice as long; - a +50% Light range that generates twice as much light; - a Blue Effect range with a bluish light similar to that emitted by xenon lamps; - an All Seasons range for optimal visibility even in poor weather.

Each range will be easy to identify with its color-coded packaging. The packaging will also feature technical information to ensure customers are well informed.

The initial offer, covering 98% of vehicles worldwide and aimed at traditional distribution channels, will include nine types of halogen lamp sold in single packs, with 23 products in all.

A further twelve types of signaling lamp will quickly follow, sold in packs of 2 or 10, making an additional 20 products.

A range aimed at auto centers and hypermarkets will be introduced at the beginning of 2011.

As for all new products, Valeo will support their launch with sales and marketing material.

ClimTest+®V2 combines a measuring instrument with an upgrade software application, and now includes dynamic and symptom diagnostics tools. The latter makes it easier to identify the cause of failures.

Valeo works with its customers to apply environmental legislation

10 minutes to comply with new fl uids legislation (decree 737) Since 4 July 2009, all air-conditioning operators in France have been required to: - conduct a complete investigation of the air-conditioning loop before refi lling with coolant; - establish a detailed report of every intervention, which must be kept for fi ve years; - declare, on 31 January, the quantities of refrigerant purchased, recovered and loaded in the previous

calendar year.

10 minutes is now all it takes to carry out a guided and complete diagnostic of the air-conditioning loop. The diagnostic is now so precise that only the defective part requires replacing and all coolant leaks are detected. ClimTest+®V2 also produces detailed reports of every operation, allowing repairers to apply the new legislation for coolant fl uids that came into effect on 4 July 2009. A copy can be issued to the customer, giving them even more confi dence about the service provider.

> Clutches With an annual production of more than 350,000 clutches, Valeo has a major share of the Original Equipment market. Because of this, Valeo develops products in line with the evolution of the market: clutches with self-adjusting technology, dual disc clutches. Equipping vehicles with more than 700 HP, Valeo clutches enable torque of over 3,000 Nm, as well as the perfect fi ltering of vibrations for optimal comfort.

Technological expertise: - the self-adjusting system doubles the lifetime of the clutch compared to a traditional single disc system.

It also offers greater comfort, as declutching requires the same effort whatever the level of friction; - the dual disc clutch has a greater wear capacity than a single disc due to the thickness of the clutch facing,

which is 5.5mm instead of 3mm. The dual disc system is ideally suited to heavy use, for example on a building site, due to its longer life. This longevity is achieved by distributing torque across two clutches instead of one. This double clutch system also offers better noise fi ltering;

- Valeo’s 3-part kit improves the quality of repairs by eliminating the risk of failure linked to the reuse of a component with reduced operating capacities. The kit also solves the problem of individual part replacement, as kit components are paired up in the factory. This also limits the time when the vehicle is out of use.

Recognized expertise in clutch facings: - Valeo’s clutch facings use environmentally friendly materials that comply fully with European regulations:

water-based rather than organic solvents, no lead or aramid fi bers. Valeo’s facings are designed for heavy use.

Benefi ts: - quality repairs; - reliability and quality of products sold; - original-standard products: valeorigin label; - a wide choice of products suited to each vehicle type.

In line with market demands, Valeo offers remanufactured (mainly in Northern Europe) and new products (mainly in Southern Europe), with a high coverage due to its Original Equipment presence: - a comprehensive range of more than 750 products including 200 Heavy Duty clutch kits covering more than

90% of European vehicles (38 makes of trucks and coaches), 350 products for light utility vehicles covering 95% of the European market, and ten pilot bearing products;

- the kits are made up of a mechanism, a disc and a release bearing; - separate parts: mechanisms, discs and release bearings.

New catalogueValeo’s clutch range covers 772 products including 225 kits for 38 makes of trucks and coaches, 508 applications for vehicles from the Astra HD7 to the Volvo NL10, as well as all components including pilot bearings. The catalogue also includes 350 kits for light industrial vehicles.

The new 2010 catalogue features 78 new component kits for more than 80 new applications: original equipment standard products made available to the aftermarket. (Mercedes Actros Euro 4 and 5 - Volvo FM Euro 4 and 5 - Man TGS and TGX - Iveco Stralis, etc.). There is also an emphasis on clutches for mid-size ranges (trucks of between six and 16 metric tons), a market that represents 44% of clutches sold (Iveco Eurocargo, Mercedes Atego, Renault Midlum, Volvo FE/FL). > Wiping For the Heavy Duty, bus and coach markets, product safety and performance are of the utmost importance. With a major share of the Original Equipment market, Valeo is a key player in Europe with two ranges, Valeo TIR and SWF Visiofl ex®. Trucks and buses require specifi c technologies that are stronger and more robust, with obviously larger structures and blades. This market requires substantial efforts in R&D, especially in terms of: - style and design of arms and blades; - length of the blade, which can be up to a meter long; - advanced integration of the washing function; - ergonomic connection of the arm and blade; - anti-corrosive protection due to the extreme conditions.

Products adapted to the market - 50 part numbers in two distinct ranges: SWF Visiofl ex® (18 traditional + six fl at blade part numbers) and TIR (20 traditional + six fl at blade part numbers); - coverage of over 98% of the European Heavy Duty market.

New SWF Visiofl ex® rangeThe fl at blade range has expanded to meet the needs of the market. There are four new wiper part numbers that are easy to fi t, silent and effective even in the most extreme conditions. - improved performance: a metal structure integrated with the rubber blade for optimal adhesion to

the windscreen; - clearer visibility: the integral spoiler places pressure evenly over the whole length of the blade for

improved wiping, even in the most extreme conditions; - innovative design: an ultra fl at blade that blends perfectly with the look of the cabin; - increased comfort: reduced noise level due to improved aerodynamics; - easy mounting and removal with the pre-mounted universal adaptor.

SWF Visiofl ex® Heavy Duty wiper catalogue Available since the beginning of March 2010, the new SWF Visiofl ex® 2010 Heavy Duty catalogue provides all the information necessary for selecting products and for the correct fi tting of SWF Visiofl ex® wipers. It features the entire SWF Visiofl ex® range for Heavy Duty and light utility vehicles, with 51 part numbers including eight new ones: three new kits for vehicles with spray ramps as well as four new Visiofl ex fl at blade. The 2010 catalogue has been restyled for clearer presentation and intuitive selection of the appropriate part. This makes it easy to quickly identify the part required, organized by vehicle, and to check the type of connection. As well as presenting the range and list of applications, the new catalogue provides a list of cross references to other products on the market.

TIR Heavy Duty wiper catalogue Available since January 2010, the new catalogue covers the entire TIR and TIR X.trm range. Professionals can easily fi nd the part numbers needed in the catalogue, which lists the corresponding old product part numbers with the new TIR part numbers, as well as those available on the market, including fl at blades. > SecurityValeo develops and supplies systems that guarantee authorized, secure, and comfortable access to vehicles in all circumstances. The Heavy Duty Security offer comprises steering column locks, locks, door handles and fuel caps.

Products adapted to the market A comprehensive range: - 18 steering column switch part numbers; - 24 security system part numbers; - 14 fuel tank caps + 5 urea tank caps (AdBlue®).

Tank Cap for AdBlue® liquidValeo has launched a new range of tank caps for AdBlue® liquid aimed at industrial vehicles

A reliable cap that is easier to identify This range of fi ller caps for AdBlue® liquid comes with a set of blue keys that can be identifi ed by users at a glance. The caps are treated against oxidation to prevent urea corrosion and are fi tted with metal cylinders for greater reliability.

SCR (selective catalytic reduction): a green technologyThe new range of Valeo’s tank caps is designed for industrial vehicles fi tted with SCR technology, which meets the 2006 EuroIV standard that restricts pollutants emitted by commercial diesel vehicles of more than 3.5 metric tons. SCR technology reduces the nitrogen oxide present in the exhaust gases by almost 85%*. The mix of one-third urea and two-thirds water stored in a special tank creates a chemical reaction in the catalytic converter that reduces the quan-tity of these polluting gases. This product refl ects Valeo’s commitment to environmental protection.

A short and complete multi-brand offer that meets original equipment standardsThe equipment market for urea tanks is growing strongly and is set to double in volume by 2012. Valeo offers a small but comprehensive range of fi ve parts that cover all the best-selling European trucks: DAF, MAN, Mercedes Trucks, Renault Trucks, Volvo Trucks, Iveco and Scania. For Scania, Valeo also offers the adapter needed to install the cap.
