DP-DELPHI SCORE PERSONAS
EXAMPLE 1
Sally is fresh out of university and has just started her first job. At 24 and with a newly
printed law degree, she has begun her legal career as a clerk in one of Singapore’s better
known law firms. For the last three years, she has been using a credit card, which she
has always paid promptly. She borrows her mother’s car if she needs transport and
hasn’t even begun thinking about buying a flat.
Sally’s DP-Delphi Score: 620 (Good) – With no long term debt, three years of good
payment history and plenty of earning years ahead of her, Sally’s credit standing is good.
EXAMPLE 2
Tom is 55 and works in middle management at an international logistics company. A
university graduate, his student loans have long been replaced by debt to meet the
needs of his family. With two kids – one about to enter University – Tom has three
credit cards which allow him to pay for his annual family holiday expenses. He and his
wife are considering upgrading to a condominium, or possibly purchasing an
investment property.
Tom’s Delphi Score in 2010: 590 (Good) – Right now Tom is carrying a fair bit of debt, but
he has a good record of making payments when they are due.
Tom’s Delphi Score in 2013: 470 (Fair) – Tom bought the investment apartment, but
didn’t realize how tough it would be when his eldest child entered university. Now he has
trouble meeting his mortgage payments and with the extra debt loaded onto him, his
credit worthiness has declined in just a couple of years.

EXAMPLE 3
Alan is 33 and earns more than $250k a year and likes everyone to know it. He is a
flashy dresser who has borrowed heavily to buy his luxury downtown condo. He has
five credit cards; and thinks nothing of falling a couple of months behind on his
payments as the banks should know he is good for it; and that he is too busy to worry
about bills. He has just signed the papers on a $600k continental car – bought with
finance of course – just so that everyone knows he is a wealthy guy.
Alan’s DP-Delphi Score: 390 (Poor) – What Alan doesn’t realize is that your income is not
the only thing that is important in assessing if you are a good or bad credit risk. Alan’s
lifestyle is built on debt – and debt which he manages badly. Now with another $600k for
a luxury car, the amount of leverage he is carrying, together with his poor payment history
means his credit standing is poor - and he may face bankruptcy if he loses that high flying
income.
