President’s Report By Dennis Glinski,
President Board of Directors
We just completed a very successful Polar Plunge on February 8, 2020. Over 140 plungers jumped into Lake Belleville that day, helping to raise funds for sev-eral organizations, including ours. While we will not have the final tally of dollars raised for a few months, we did exceed our submitted donations by about 35% over last year. As a reminder, the funds raised from the Polar Plunge are held by Special Olympics of Michigan in our name, and will be used to offset the ex-pense to take our athletes to the State Summer Games this late May/early June 2020. This, along with the Car Raffle funds raised last fall, should cover the vast majority of costs for this event. Next up in fundraising is our Spaghetti Dinner, which will be on Sunday, April 26, 2020. The dinner and fundraising activities will take place at the Knights of Co-lumbus Wyandotte Council, at 3530 Biddle Avenue. Please mark this date! We can use basket raffle items for this event. Please drop off any dona-tion at the Arc Downriver office, or contact the office if you have any ques-tions. And, as always, thank you for supporting the Polar Plunge, and our other fund-raising events that support our athletes! Regards,
SAVE THE DATE: Sunday, April 26th
Watch for more information to come….

The Advocates at The Arc Downriver would really like to offer presentations and trainings to self-advocates, family members, education staff, agency staff and community members, but we simply do not have the funds to do so. The trainings/presentations would be on topics that relate to education (IEPs, suspensions, behavior interventions, etc.), independent living
(how to obtain housing, recreation, access community supports, etc.), health is-sues (CPR Training, seizure training, etc.) and more! Lori, Linda and Kara would love to be able to share some of their knowledge, answer your questions and pro-vide support. Please consider donating! If you would like to support this endeavor through a donation, please write for ADVOCACY Trainings in the memo line of your check and mail it to: The Arc Downriver, 1028 Oak Street, Wyandotte, MI 48192. Thank You!
