What’s on in Reading?
Reading COP26 Hub has been set up by GREN & Reading FoE to publicise local events
relating to COP26 – the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on
Climate Change - please join in and help. Let us know of other events we can publicise.

UoR Green Festival 2021 - 3rd to 5th November
Three events at Reading University’s ‘Green Festival’ (see link) – 31st October to 12th November - are open to the public:
Wednesday 3rd - 10-1pm - Green Festival Showcase event 360 at RUSU
Thursday 4th - 11-11:45 - Online webinar ‘Saving energy in your home’ (numbers will be mediated).
Friday 5th - 12-1pm - ‘Shout for Sustainability’ outside Carrington

Please come along to show you care and learn about the latest science,
practical measures you can take, and campaigning organisations you can join.
13:00 to 14:00 - ‘March 4 Climate’
Flags and banners and placards! Organised by Shinfield Baptists - open to all.
Through Reading from Broad Street to St Laurence church – see below.
14:00 to 17:00 ‘Reading’s COP26’ event in St Laurence church
Meet local campaigning groups and businesses and hear presentations from an
expert climate scientist, local organisations, politicians and a faith
representative.

‘March 4 Climate’ – 1 pm 6th November:
Peaceful, family friendly ‘March 4 Climate’ at 1pm beginning Broad St, junction
with West St and ending at St. Laurence Church. While the March is being
organised by local churches it is open to those of all faiths and none who are
passionate about this subject.
The organisers are encouraging people to bring an instrument – whistle, bells,
percussion, etc, to wear something colourful and to face paint (if you dare!)
with a planet theme – animals, flowers, globes etc.”
People will be invited to sign a climate pledge when they reach the church

‘Reading’s COP26’ event in St Laurence church – 2pm 6th November
We’re inviting various groups and organisations to have table-top displays to engage with the public and from 3 pm there will be presentations followed by a panel discussion. More details on Event Page – link below.
Richard P Allan, Professor of Climate Science at the University of Reading Department of Meteorology and lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 6th assessment report will present the conclusions of the latest IPCC climate change assessment report.
Various others, including representatives of Reading Community Energy Society, Reading Climate Action Network, three Reading Councillors, and the Christian community will make statements about how we are - or should be – responding to COP26.
To manage Covid risks:
o Numbers in the church at any one time will be restricted. o If you think you may be infectious please stay away to protect others. o Please wear a facemask and use hand sanitiser in the building
