RPS/ YCAT Philip Langridge Mentoring Scheme
The Philip Langridge Mentoring Scheme is apartnership between the Royal PhilharmonicSociety and Young Classical Artists Trustdesigned to help young musicians starting outin the profession benefit from the wisdom ofestablished international performers. Amongthe first mentors were Imogen Cooper, StevenIsserlis, Rolf Hind, Angelika Kirchschlager andStephen Langridge. Current mentors includeAlison Balsom, working with Peter Moore.
At the heart of PLMS is the development of a relationship between two musicians – not a teacher-pupil relationship, but one of colleagues. This is essentially something private and elusive anddifferent musicians will respond in different ways. Without being prescriptive the scheme aimsto give space and encouragement to emerging artistic personalities.

Doing the rounds of the competitions I was lucky enoughto enter the YCAT auditions – not strictly a competition at all –and, at the second try, to be selected. What followed was amixture of emotional support, promotions, commercial guidance, musical advice and argument. If it hadn’t been for YCAT, I’dprobably still be dithering about whether to become a singeror not, anxiously weighing the pros and cons. So, thank youYCAT and congratulations for all you have achieved.
Imogen Cooper CBE

Support YCAT Artists into the Future – Legacy Giving
Have you considered remembering YCAT in your Will?
Legacy gifts can directly help us support:
Promotion and development of individual artist careersEstablishing significant national and international performing opportunities forour artistsDevelopment of YCAT’s increasing mentoring role for talented young musicians
As a relatively small charity, YCAT greatly depends upon the support and belief in ourvaluable work of many loyal donors. As we continue to look to the future with confidenceand purpose, any type of legacy gift can make a substantial difference to our ongoingdevelopment and nurturing of young artists.
What better way to remember the musical experiences that have given us so much joyand satisfaction, and to feel we are helping to provide similar opportunities for futuregenerations to experience life-changing live music, than to actively support tomorrow’syoung artists?
