Claude Debussy’s iconic La Mer, with all its dynamic energy and imagery, serves as the latest musical inspiration for Choreographer in Residence Zalman Raffael as he premieres an immersive new ballet that evokes the chaos and grandeur of the sea.

In commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Miguel de Cervantes’ death in 1616, Artistic Director Robert Weiss sends the tarnished knight, Don Quixote, back onto the stage to chase love and battle windmills in this imaginative ballet filled with moments of humor and sorrow.

Carolina Ballet Principal Guest Choreographer Lynne Taylor-Corbett’s Carmina Burana, explores love, greed, and obsession in the contemporary setting of Wall Street. This program features Carl Orff’s memorable and pulsating score performed live by the North Carolina Master Chorale under the baton of Music Director Alfred E. Sturgis.

Join us as we celebrate the 15th anniversary of Carolina Ballet’s family favorite, The Nutcracker. A holiday tradition that’s perfect for the whole family, ours is the only performance of The Nutcracker in the country with real illusions, created by world-renowned magician, Rick Thomas. Drawing upon Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale, Carolina Ballet Principal Guest Choreographer Lynne Taylor-Corbett conjures an enchanting vision of the young mermaid with an alluring voice, who will risk it all for love in a daring deal with a vengeful sea witch. Featuring an original score by Michael Moricz, this program is paired with Who Cares?, George Balanchine’s tribute to George Gershwin’s most memorable music.
