From far off galaxies & distant black holes

Speaking in tongues no one could behold

As the sky grew dark with ghoulish lost souls

A foolish boy captured it all on his smart phone

As the ghosts surrounded the City of Bones

They came unannounced as if from thin air

Over Finn, Mourne and Foyle an out of the blue

Across white valleys* to take me and take you

A cold wind shuddered between this world and the next

As citizens cowered frightened and vexed

“What shall we do?” Screamed a shivering young girl

Burning beacons from besieged walls will silence banshee calls

Stay well out of sight or hide under your bed

Don disguises and off to Derry to dance with the dead

Under a Samhain moon is the place to be,

a city apart and Out of This World!

The Other World with the Armagh Rhymers.............................................................. n ShapeShifers Stage, Guildhall Square H Monday 31st October l 4.30pm..............................................................The rituals and rhymes of the willow masked Armagh Rhymers go back to a time when the lines between the afterlife and the present life was blurred, when death was ever present and where animals lived in close proximity to the human world. Rhymers through the ages have nurtured the relationship between this world and the otherworld, the place where the unimaginable can happen and where the imagination is king. The Armagh Rhymers perform in the style of the ancient Mummers tradition - a clever combination of local legend, visual arts, Irish traditional music, poetry, and comedy with folk or children’s songs.
