Innovative Gas monitoring and control systemsfor saving energy in

UNDERGROUND CAR PARKS

KIMESSA AG

KIMESSA AG was established in 1985 as an innovatorin the design and manufacture of electronic fixed gasdetection solutions.

KIMESSA AG specialises in fixed gas monitoring andcontrol systems, with customers drawn from industriesincluding underground car parks, HVAC, laboratories, refrigeration, food and brewing.

KIMESSA AG has achieved worldwide notable successwith their acclaimed carbon monoxide monitoring andcontrol equipment in the underground car park market, designed to compliment specialist ventilation systemswith some of the world’s leading companies in this field.

All of our products are developed and manufactured inSwitzerland. 50% of our output is exported through anexperienced distributor network.

Certified to ISO 9001:2000 in 2004 and today to ISO9001:2008, KIMESSA AG proves they are committed tomeeting their customers demand for robust, highquality and innovative products.

Today‘s society daily lives and works with poisonous, flammable and inert gases. Gas is an economical, functional and essential commodity, but one which canbecome dangerous if used or released in a non-controlled manner.

Intensive research and development have led to theproduction of the compact KIMESSA gas monitoringsystem for industrial and domestic applications. Withthe CANline control units, and an extensive variety ofGas Detectors, KIMESSA is helping to prevent accidentsand damage to people, homes and the workplace.

A gas monitoring system also actively promotes energysaving by monitoring and controlling the use of gas.

Thanks to the superior technical solutions they offer,KIMESSA gas monitoring systems are versatile, highquality and extremely cost-efficient. All products aresubject to stringent quality control and are manu-factured using innovative production and testingtechniques.

KIMESSA and their representatives have more than 30years of experience, and extensive technical knowledgeto deliver the best in class guarantee when consulting, implementing and supporting your gas monitoringsystem.

Gas monitoring in:

Underground car parks

CO/NO2 measurement and control systems are there-fore standard equipment in underground car parks andbus parking garages to regulate air quality and protectpersonnel. Energy efficient control of ventilation systems, safety and air quality are critical requirements in theprovision of a gas monitoring system for undergroundcar parks and garages. The new generation of versatileCANline gas monitor control units are a cost effectivesolution for small and large installations. Precise and se-lective measurement is a prerequisite for the best results.

Innovative and tailored design of the CANline gasmonitor enables versatile, convenient control of theventilation system.

Individual ventilation protocols are created with userselected Kimessa control programs. The integrated fanactivation and deactivation time delays preventpremature fan activation due to locally elevated COconcentrations (petrol vehicles) or NO2 concentrations(diesel vehicles). The quality and accuracy of CO/NO2measurement is dependent on the detector measuringprinciple. KIMESSA CO/NO2 gas sensors are equippedwith a selective electrochemical sensing element. Thisguarantees an effective optimum operation of theventilation system while maintaining the required safetythreshold from vehicle exhaust fumes.

Touch screens or Web servers can be used for thevisualization and rapid control of gas monitoring data. All data is of course recorded and can be viewed locallyon the touch display or via the Web browser on any PC.

Exhaust Gas Alarm SignsThe CO/NO2 gas concentration in an enclosed spacecan quickly increase due to heavy traffic movements ora vehicle engine malfunction and result in a potentialpoisoning hazard. Exhaust gas detection ‘gas alarmsigns’ promptly alert any persons at risk to the presenceof excessive gas concentrations in the ambient air. The‘gas alarm signs’ are installation friendly and can beperfectly integrated in any enclosed space, even with

sophisticated architecture. Symbols and text are used toconvey the correct response to an exhaust gas alarm. The text is available in several languages and the designof the ‘gas alarm sign’ can be individually adapted(height, pictogram, etc.). On request the complete gasdetection system including the ‘gas alarm sign’ can beprovided with an emergency power supply.

The KIMESSA system allows for the option to integrate aUPS (uninterruptible power supply) to be integrated intothe control cabinet and therefore does not require itsown housing. Alternatively, we can install all items in aproject-specific control cabinet.

Our gas detector housings are made of welded stain-less steel, are extremely robust and offer excellent prote-ctions against vandalism, an unfortunate occurrence inpublic car parks. To differentiate the Kimessa BUS tech-nology gas monitoring concept from our competitors; wealso completely integrate the alarm activity into the BUS.For example, the LED warning lights and the alarm soun-ders can be integrated into the BUS. This means a signifi-cant saving in cable runs. A further advantage is thatextensions or changes can be performed economicallyand new cable runs are possible at any time.

Differential moisture control solution for thedehumidi-fication of underground car parksTo overcome the problem associated with high humidityand damp conditions in underground car parks, Kimessa

offers a differential moisture control solution for thedehumidification of underground car parks. Providedthat the air outside of the building is dryer than the airinside, the differential humidity control developed in-house by KIMESSA acts as an efficient spacedehumidifier upon activation.

With differential moisture control, one humidity/tempe-rature sensor is fitted in the enclosed space and a se-cond humidity/temperature sensor is fitted outside thebuilding. The two sensors are connected to theKIMESSA moisture controller, which is preferably instal-led in or next to the control cabinet.

The KIMESSA humidity control unit evaluates the sensordata and stops the fan as soon as the absolute humidityinside the building is higher inside than outside.
