2016 SeasonWelcome

The making of a Playhouse season is an exciting and complex undertaking.

First, the list of hundreds of plays we want to produce for you is narrowed down to only four. There must be a mix of styles and genres, from beloved classics to Vermont premieres. Once titles are selected we work with each play publisher to obtain performance rights. Next we carefully select professional directors who will breathe life into the script, designers who will add visual magic, and production artists who will build and create the physical space in which the story unfolds.

Then there is the extraordinarily complicated assembling of the acting company. Each year we audition over one thousand professional actors in New York City and beyond. Every actor is given consideration for each role as we draw together an acting company that will offer you our theater-goers the highest quality performances possible.

After much brainstorming, negotiating, travelling, auditioning, deliberating, and pencil sharpening we are ready to embark on this year’s line-up. I welcome you to a theater season that proudly showcases the assortment of vibrant and dynamic work I have been building into our programming as Producing Artistic Director.

It has been 68 years since Saint Michael’s Playhouse opened its doors to the Greater Burlington community and now, with hundreds of productions and more than one million audience members, the Playhouse is stronger and more exciting than ever, with more than 16,000 audience members enjoying a performance at the Playhouse each season.

So, treat your spouse to four romantic summer evenings at the theater. Impress a date with your cultural savvy. Share memorable experiences with your friends. Bring the kids and spark their creativity with a dose of the arts.

Anyone and everyone is welcome … Saint Michael’s Playhouse is here for you!

WELCOME TO OUR 69TH SEASON

As an auxiliary enterprise of Saint Michael’s College, we rely on the support of our friends, patrons and sponsors.
