It is hard to believe that our first anniversary of becoming a nonprofit organization is approaching! The board has been hard at work and can’t wait to see what comes next. We are starting the process of finding our member at large for the upcoming year as well as the all member meeting. Sib Shops and assistive technology are being researched and on the front broiler. Everyone's continued understanding is appreciated while we work through the maze of helping everyone meet the needs of our kids and our families!
Summer is here and Down in the Southland can’t wait for more fun and exciting opportunities! Summer always offers more time, which means more things to do!
Planning for our 2nd Annual Walk for Down in the Southland is well underway! If you are interested in helping in any way, or have a talent or treasure to add to the fun and festivities, please send an email to [email protected] and we will make sure it gets to the Walk Committee!
GARAGE SALE…
SPREAD THE WORD! Down in the Southland is sponsoring the
Trey Gryga Research Foundation garage
sale.The Gryga family will be hosting the
garage sale on Friday, June 1st and
Saturday, June 2nd from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Members of Down in the Southland will
have a special early bird shopping
opportunity on Thursday,May 31st from 2-
8 p.m. All profit made from the sale will
directly go to the Trey Gryga Research
Foundation. More information can be
found at dravet.org, under the Current
Funds of Hope, about halfway down the
page.
This is a great opportunity to get your
kids in the habit of helping others!

ANNUAL MEMBER MEETING
Please join us for this year’s annual member meeting. It will be located at Acorn Public Library on Wednesday, June
27th at 7:00pm. The library is located at 15624 Central Ave, Oak Forest. The member at large will be voted into office as well as a presentation of what the group will be working on
for the next year. If you would like to have something added to the agenda,
please submit to [email protected]' no later than 6/22/12.

Resources: Ages 0-3:
Check out www.lakeshorelearning.com for colorful, soft, educational toys. All areas of development are offered. You can also shop at their store in Orland Park for a quicker hand on your merchandise. Ages 4-6: Starfall.com is a wonderful website for those learning their alphabet. Try parts of the website for free or sign up for a one year subscription for $35. Ages 7-13: www.dinah.com is a plethora of visual and kinesthetic learning resources for all kids but especially helpful for our kids! Resources cover a large array of school subjects – a must for summer learning!
Ages and Stages Groups '11-'13
If you have a baby born in 2011 or even 2012 and are interested in getting together with other moms and babies, please send an email to [email protected] '08-'10 South
The ’08-’10 South group had fun playing and are creating new friendships. They are looking forward to the next play date on 6/29! ’08-’10 North
This group is having their next play date on 6/2! '02-'04
The May play date was fun and snack filled! The kids all had a blast jumping on the trampoline and playing basketball. The next play date is 6/29/12. '05-'07
The June play date will be on Saturday June 16
th!

The next play date will be a pool party, so bring your swim suit – swimming is on the agenda! If you see an Ages & Stages play date on the calendar for your child’s age range, but don’t get an E-vite, please email [email protected] and put “Evite Ages & Stages” in the subject field. Be sure to indicate the group for which you would like to receive an Evite.
June Parent Meeting
Learn about a variety of tools, tips and
techniques to help parents help our kids learn
math. We will discuss early childhood math,
kitchen math, Touch Math, Numicon, on line
sites and more! Specific items will be tailored to
the ages of the children of the attendees.

LAST CHANCE! If you would like your child involved
in reading tutoring this summer, and have not already
received information regarding tutoring, please email
your name and the name and age of your child to
[email protected] with LITERACY in the
subject field.
MATH HELP NEEDED!
Many of our kids are struggling with math…and could really use some help! Do you know
anyone who would be interested in partnering with Down in the Southland to help get some
math help going for our kids? If so, please either send an email to
[email protected], with the subject ‘MATH’ with the contact information, or have that special someone who is willing to help our kids contact us directly at the same
email address!
