TOBACCO/THC/VAPE PRODUCTS ON SCHOOL PROPERTY – Vaping has become epidemic with our teens. It is something we address on almost a daily basis. In addition to our concern over the health risks this behavior poses, we have seen a number of students expelled for the possession or use of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, the principal psychoactive ingredient in marijuana). We want to reiterate that possession or use of THC on campus will result in a recommendation for expulsion for students who are found to be vaping THC or have THC in their possession. This strong stand is imperative not only to remain compliant with state

Page 3: Douglas MacArthur High School€¦ · Web viewDouglas MacArthur High School North East Independent School District _____ 2923 MacArthur View, San Antonio, Texas

law and the North East ISD Student Code of Conduct, but also to help to deter a behavior that is endangering our students. Regardless of personal opinions on this issue, possession and use of e-cigarettes/vaping devices remains illegal under state law for persons under 18. All devices, oils, and other paraphernalia are explicitly prohibited by the North East ISD Student Code of Conduct for students of all ages. Confiscated devices, cartridges and oils will be subject to immediate on-campus chemical testing. Students who are in possession of any item which tests positively for THC will be recommended for expulsion as such possession is a state jail felony. Note that possessing or being under the influence of any controlled substance as detailed above can also result in separate criminal penalties as determined by law enforcement. For the safety and wellbeing of our children, please help us to reinforce the serious safety and disciplinary consequences, which can result from vaping. You can access https://www.neisd.net/escapethevape for additional resources, which may help you to initiate this conversation with your child. Thank you for your continued collaboration as we strive to ensure the safest possible educational environment for all students.

first half of the year. Through funds raised via these avenues, we were able to help purchase training equipment for girls’ athletics, help with entry fees for a cross-country and travel expenses for a wrestling tournament.  We helped purchase warm-ups for the tennis team and parkas for the swim team and helped with the expenses to fix some equipment in the weight room.  As well as numerous initiatives for the football team.  All said, $10,950 dollars were invested in the student/athletes of MacArthur in the Fall semester. We have a lot of great things planned for the spring.  Our first meeting of the year will be this coming a Monday February 10th at 6:30 in the main gym.   We will be introducing Freshman and JV boys’ Basketball, boys’ and girls’ Soccer as well as Swimming.Mark your calendars for April 26th for the Booster Club Student Athlete Scholarship Golf Tournament at the Quarry Golf course.  In addition to raising money for two $1500 Scholarships (1 male and 1 female), all remaining profits will be distributed to various sports programs.  Last year, over $6000 was dispersed to the various teams that participated.  Even if golf is not your thing, come join the festivities.   There will be a great auction, food, beverages and live music! We will be sending out registration forms as well as information for sponsorship opportunities in the next couple of weeks.  We’d love to see a lot of Brahma Alumni participation at this years’ event! It’s never too late to join the Booster Club and be a part of the great things we’re trying to accomplish for these young men and women! We’re always looking for help as well.  We will be electing a new board in the May time frame or If you’re interested in helping with the golf tournament or next years’ sports program, let us know. We’d love to spread the word to incoming freshman as well, so if you know of any, please forward this note to them and encourage them to become involved. We’re looking forward to a great spring cheering on our Brahmas! If your child is involved in MAC Athletics, be sure to join the MacArthur Athletic Booster Club!  Keep up to date on upcoming meetings and events by following the Booster Club on:Facebook:  Brahma BoosterTwitter:  @Brahma_BoosterInstagram: brahmaboosterIf you have questions or would like to become involved with the Booster Club, contact us at [email protected]. VOTER REGISTRATION – Voting is a precious right and your vote makes a difference. Don’t be silent; let your voice be heard. Each High School Principal is a Deputy Voter Registrar by law. I want to encourage you to make sure you are registered to vote. If you or your child need to register, you can get a registration card at MacArthur in the Principal’s Office. You can either send it in yourself, or turn it in, and we will make sure it is turned in for you. Go Brahma Voters!

BEHVIOR AT GAMES AND EVENTS –I want to be very clear of the expectations and consequences. It is okay to disagree with a call and to be a little loud when supporting our Brahmas. It is not okay to be disruptive or engage in personal attacks or confrontations with Coaches, referees, or students. Anyone causing a disturbance or verbally abusing the officials, coaches, or students will be given one warning. If the behavior continues, you will be asked to leave, or removed from the game. If the behavior is very serious or persistent (that is, it occurs on more than one occasion, it will result in the issuing of Criminal Trespass Warning, which means being barred from all events for up to two years. I would ask that you not put us in a position where this becomes necessary. Please let the coaches take care of the coaching and dealing with the officials. It is extremely important for us to model appropriate behavior at any function. Let’s do the right thing when we support our kids. Go Brahmas!
