Susan Kaplan, M.S.W. has an extensive background which includes: She was a licensed in-home Child Care Pro- vider for many years, also worked in a Drop - in Nursery; she worked in a center with various ages of children, also worked for the Conflict Center. Susan had many wonder- ful ideas and strategies, among them: How to “Calm an Angry Child” “Running a Peaceful Home” “and “The Importance of comparing YOUR Philosophy to the Parents of the potential children that would be in your childcare to be sure you’re compatible, could be setting yourself up for disaster if you’re not. These handouts mentioned above are included with this class summary. We had a wonderful turnout about 32 Members and learned way too much to repeat everything that Susan mentioned. However, if you ever have an opportunity to go to one of her classes, I would highly recommend you do so, its time very well spent. Paula Williams, Temp. October Meeting

The confirmed date for the October class will be the 19th (Thurs.) This class is the Potty Training and Stress Management Class to be held at the Highlands Ranch Library from 6:30 – 8:30 on Ridgeline Drive off Highlands Ranch Parkway just West of Broadway. A reminder will be sent out closer to the date of the class, but just wanted you to mark your calendars ahead of time should prove to be a good and helpful class.

KEYNOTE: “THE FRED FACTOR”

SPEAKER: Karen Hughes TIME: 8:15 a.m. This keynote will explore how passion in your work and life can turn the ordinary into the extraordinary! The four princi-ples you will learn from Fred will give you insight into doing extraordinary work.

Karen Hughes is the Associate Executive Director and Chief Opera-tions Officer for the National Association for the Educa-tion of Young Children (NAEYC). In this position she leads a staff of 23 in the management of the following Karen Hughes

NAEYC departments: Membership, Resource Sales, Affiliate Rela-tions, Customer Care Center, NAEYC Global Alliances, Operations, Facilities, Mainte-nance, and Information Technology. Karen is a well-known, nationally recognized speaker specializing in leadership, management, strategic thinking and planning, change man-agement, and customer service.

Karen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a Kindergarten Endorsement and Master’s Degree in Educational Management. Her previous experience includes teaching kindergar-ten in a public school setting; owning and directing an NAEYC Accredited early child-hood program for Infants through School age; teaching child development and administration courses at a community college; directing the on-site, NAEYC accredited lab school for a com-munity college; and owning an early childhood training and consulting company.
