Raney and his teammates won six straight games before being eliminated by the Texas Blue Chips, which is run by Cleveland Cavaliers guard Mo Williams. In one seven-minute stretch, Raney held the nation’s second-ranked player in that age group scoreless just after the player had scored 13 straight points before Raney began guarding him. Raney scored six points in the loss. The Team USA 2022 squad is currently ranked No. 23 in the country by coast2coastpreps.com. It recently defeated the No. 1 na- tionally-ranked team from California in the Las Vegas Big Foot Tournament. Raney is currently a seventh grader at Cashion. He is the younger brother of Vaughn Raney, who earned All-State recognition for the Wildcats and is now at Rogers State University. Raney is pictured with Team USA 2022 head coach Reggie Williams. [Photo Provided] As expected, there was no action taken on adding a basketball classification during last Wednesday’s meeting of the OSSAA board of directors. There was discussion on the matter, but it continued to be more of a fact-finding mission by the board, one that will continue. Board members, how- ever, did approve baseball districts for Class 4A for the 2017 season, which does affect Kingfisher. Classes 5A and 6A have played in districts the past several years and now 4A will join them. In Class 4A, all teams make the playoffs, which will start with a bi-district tournament in the first round. District records will de- termine the seedings for those bi-districts. Kingfisher’s softball sea- son took a big hit before the first official pitch was ever thrown. Sophomore Bree Taylor, the projected starting pitch- er, suffered a collapsed lung two days before the team’s season-opening loss last Monday at Woodward. “That’s a big loss for us,” said first-year coach Danny Green. “Unfortunately, she’s still at OU Medical Center and we’re not sure when she’ll be able to return.” Without Taylor, the Lady Jackets dropped their first two games of the season and struggled to muster offense in both defeats. Erin Hart was responsi- ble for the team’s lone run in the 8-1 defeat at Woodward. She singled in the fifth inning, then stole the next three bases. That pulled KHS within 4-1. “Our defense was play- ing well and we were still in it going into the sixth inning,” Green said. That’s when the Lady Boomers plated four more runs off Jenna Johnson, who allowed just eight hits and struck out two in the loss. However, KHS managed just two hits in the game. Haley Harris was responsi- ble for the other. KHS followed that up Tuesday with an 11-0 loss in six innings to Elk City in the team’s home opener. Kingfisher mustered a lone hit by Anna Crosswhite. “The girls are working really hard right now, but we’re struggling to hit,” Green said. “Our defense has mostly been pretty good and that’s what we’ll have to rely on until our bats can come around.” KHS is playing this week- end in the Woodward Tour- nament. Results will be in Wednesday’s edition. Lady Jackets’ bats quiet in opening losses RANEY’S TEAM 4TH AT NATIONALS Kingfisher landed in Class 4A-1 along with Anadarko, Clinton, Elk City, John Marshall, New- castle, Santa Fe South and Weatherford. Board members also ap- proved reducing entry fees for each sport to help alle- viate budget pressures for schools. Fees, which range from $30-$75 per sport - except golf, which is $150 - were cut in half by the board. Sites for fall baseball championships and the fast-pitch state tournaments were also solidified. Baseball’s title games will be played at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark while the fast-pitch state tourna- ment will return to Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. Billy Dean Coddington of Ponca City, fiancé of Melody Isbell, passed away Friday, July 29, 2016 in Enid.

Bill was born on Sept. 7, 1938, to Da-vid I. and Florence M. Wrench Codding-ton in Salina, Kan. He joined the Navy and served two years

aboard the USS Yorktown CV-10.

He was owner of the Rusty Barrell Supper Club in Ponca City, which will stay in the family and be operated by his son, Rick Hancock. Bill was also an avid OSU fan.

A celebration of life ser-vice was held Friday, Aug. 5, at First Presbyterian Church with Don Doe, pastor, of Phoenix, Ariz., a special family friend, officiating.

He is survived by eight children, daughters Jody Coddington, Jan Cotton, Tracy Poland, Terri Gar-dinier, Lisa Hooker, Miki Friedman, and sons Rick Hancock and Rusty Han-cock; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister, Josephine Miller and numerous nieces and nephews. He shared the last few years with his fiancée, Melody Isbell, formerly of Dover.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Judy; his parents, four brothers and one sister.

Frederick John Schem-mer, 96, of Kingfisher, died Monday, Aug. 8, 2016, at his home

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sat-urday, Sept. 24, at the Federated Church in Kingfisher.

Fred was born June 23, 1920, on the family

farm north of Kingfisher to Gus and Katherine (Hauser) Schemmer.

He graduated from King-fisher High School in 1938 and worked on the family farm until he received his draft notice from the United States Army in December 1941. He served in the Pa-cific Theater for the duration of WWII. He was part of the 1st Cavalry “The Flying Column” who liberated prisoners of war at Santo Tomas University in Ma-nila, the Philippines, early in 1945. He was honorably discharged from the service Oct. 2, 1945.

Fred married Mary Jane “Janey” Mackey on May 4, 1943, in El Paso, Texas, just two weeks before he shipped overseas.

Danielle was born Oct. 6, 1988, in Enumclaw, Wash., to Ron Townsend and Mi-chelle Gray-VanCleave. She died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016.

He was a member of the Kingfisher Lions Club and American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one brother, Paul, one son, Da-vid, and one great-grand-son, Alex.

Fred is survived by one son, Keith Schemmer and wife, Linda, of Kingfisher; three daughters, Barbara Fisher and husband, Gary, of Kingfisher; Peggy Peck and husband, Roy, of Mus-tang; and Ruth Schemmer of Nashville, Tenn.; and a chosen daughter, Rachel McElroy of Mustang. He is also survived by 11 grand-children, 19 great-grand-children, and one sister, Dorothy Schemmer, of Al-buquerque, N.M.
