He is Bert. She is Fred. Together they are Bert & Fred. Logical. Bert & Fred live together, work together, play together. Preferably with freshly sharpened kitchen knives, mousetraps and darts. It may not be safe but it is certainly exciting! Bert & Fred push it to the limit – together, they create spectacular, funny and dangerous circus. It’s about love, friendship and popcorn. It’s about risks and blind trust. It's about giving everything and not looking back. It’s about... Bert & Fred.

Rigging: We provide our own aluminium truss frame of (4m x 2m) Total working load of this structure: 1T SWL In the air The frame can be rigged in 2 different ways:

OPTION 1: Directly on the fly system of the theatre We provide roundslings to attach our frame to the bars Depending on the SWL it will be on approximately 5 bars OPTION 2: On 4 rigging points in the grid (4x 500kg SWL) We provide 4 chain hoists on which the structure will be mounted

In both situations the structure has to be stabilized to 4 rigging points on the wall/bridge or if not possible otherwise, to the floor (4x 500kg SWL) 1 rigging point in the backstage (stage left) (SWL 150kg) at approximately 7m high for attribute ropes, as for a safety line for one of the acts On the floor 2 rigging points in the back of the backstage (stage left and right) to rig a slack rope structure and to attach a safety line for one of the acts (500kg SWL)

Extra: • During one of the scenes, which is an integral part of the show, there will

be made use of a spring-powered air rifle. The lead bullets will we absorbed by our own backdrop. If applicable, the organizer provides all the obligatory permissions.

• During one of the scenes, which is an integral part of the show, a living chicken will be placed on stage. Unless discussed otherwise the organizer provides the chicken. (Latest 1 hours before show time)

• 4 volunteers/crewmembers during the show. After about 20 minutes after the start of the show, 4 crewmembers are needed to distribute champagne glasses in the audience. Preferable all dressed in white shirts. The briefing will happen latest 30 min. before show time. In case the champagne glasses (50) of the company are used, they have to be collected en washed after the show.

• For the last scène a pile of boxes of 2m by 2,5, which will be stored in the backstage during the show, will be slide on stage. Please mention if there is no such entrance (2m wide) available.

• 1 table, for guest book and posters + space for banner and T-shirt rack

Fire: During one of the scenes, which is an integral part of the show, popcorn will be made on a gas fire. This will create smoke, so better adept the fire alarm to this situation during the performance.

Technicians: All light and sound will be done from the backstage (stage left). Minimum 2 technicians, which are familiar with all the installations and structures from the venue, must be provided; to help loading in and out; help with the set-up, program the present installations; are in the backstage during the show; help with the breakdown. During the show, there should be at least 1 technician from the venue in the audience, via intercom in connection with our technician, to signalize all possible problems.

Sound:

• Sound system adapted to the venue • 2 Monitors on stage (left, right) • We bring our own laptop with audio card, which should be connected to

the F.O.H. • For large venues (to be confirmed with our technician):

2 Hypercardioide microphones (ex.: KM185, C420 SM81, Oktava MK 012) on a tripod

Light: All light is manipulated from the company’s laptop in the backstage. DMX-connection should be provided coté cour.

Bert Loenders:

"When I was in high school, I had to fill in a questionnaire to figure out what I wanted to

become.

What are your interests? What are you good at, what are you not good at? Are you

skillful, creative, sociable, patient, are you a leader and another bunch of questions.

Guess what?.... out of a list with 1000 professions,

I ended up with: Circus artist!

But I already knew that. I had already done my first performances, and had tasted the pleasure that comes with it. The adventure of travel, the physicality, the organisation and the reactions that you create in the

audience…. It’s great!

I still find it hard to tell new people I meet that “I do circus”. “Oooh, right, circus… with the glittery costumes, the elephants

and the clowns….and you live in a caravan?” The best way to explain to them what I do, is

to show them! And that’s what I want to keep on doing. Show them my idea of circus. Show it to as many people as

possible, all over the world!

To convince them of my work, I always try to create shows with the audience in mind. I try

to work out how they think; not just give them what they want to see, but to be one

step ahead of them, so I can surprise them!"

Fréderique Snoeks:

"Circus is a challenge, a lifestyle, a passion. Circus involves going through tough times only to come back even stronger. Circus is

persevering but at the same time being flexible and dedicated. It’s an honest art

form, and as an artist, I am convinced that this art form should reach out to entertain, touch, stimulate and above all to engage

the audience!

I love to travel and discover new venues and avenues, to meet new people and to set up all our equipment for hours and be almost

exhausted before the show has even begun, and then to break it all down again straight

after the show, until late at night.

I love a spontaneous party after a festival, where other artists take out their musical

instruments and start improvising together. I’m in love with my passion, Circus.

I came late to circus, and to training to be a professional artist, therefore it sometimes takes me a little longer to master a new

trick, but at the same time, I have a mature and strong artistic vision. I know what I want

to bring on stage and what I don’t want.

But nevertheless, I still enjoy doing big events and galas, where I just follow the

directions from a choreographer or production team. Hanging at 30m above the

floor, suspended from a crane with a view over the world I realise that I’m the luckiest

girl in the world.

Bring it on!

Ontstaan de ideeën voor die gevaarlijke stunts in de huiskamer?Die ontstaan een beetje overal en zeker niet perse in de huiskamer. Waar ik veel inspiratie van krijg is in de doe-het-zelf-zaak. Dan zie ik die zagen, hamers, slijpschijven liggen en begint het in mijn hoofd te malen. Maar evenzeer door bijvoorbeeld een foto, een filmpje, een stripverhaal, iets dat op straat ligt of een goed gesprek met vrienden.

Eind vorig jaar stonden jullie in Mexico met Cirque Du Soleil. Hoe was dat?Veel en heel lange repetitiedagen, een toffe groep, helaas weinig van het land kunnen zien, heel lekker eten en een kinesiste die mee was — een echte luxe voor een circusartiest! Is Cirque du soleil niet dé droom (hét hoogte-punt) van elke circusartiest? Of zijn er nog pro-jecten waar jullie (meer) van dromen / of op terugkijken — de slotshow op de Olympische Spelen in Londen bijvoorbeeld?Als mensen aan circus denken dan is het meestal aan Cirque du Soleil. Is dit dan ook een droom voor ons? Neen, zeker niet. Moesten ze ons ooit polsen om in een vaste show van hun mee te draaien, zouden wij er niet zo happig op zijn. Dan draai je mee in een soort van fabriek, ze kunnen je zo vervangen, en het is niet echt persoonlijk. Zeg nooit nooit, maar een droom is het niet. Daarvoor regelen en onderne-men wij zelf veel te graag. We zijn veel trotser op onze eigen voorstelling, waarin we echt 100% ons ding doen. Nu eten we van twee walletjes: én we kunnen zo’n mega shows uitvoeren, voor korte tijd op unieke locaties en de wereld zien zonder dat wij al teveel moeten regelen én we hebben onze eigen voorstelling. De perfecte combinatie dus.

Over de Olympische spelen in Londen, hoe hebben jullie het daar gedaan in de slotceremonie?Weet je, soms werk je zo naar iets toe, omdat je er echt naar uitkijkt. De Olympische Spelen waren daar een voorbeeld van. Dagen repeteerden we, en op de dag dat het ging gebeuren, was ik doodziek met alles erop en eraan. Ik kon mijn bed niet uit, maar dan zeg je geen nee. Dan hang je als een hal-vegare op 30 m. hoogte in de lucht mooi te wezen en rond te draaien met onder je publiek en het enige waar je aan kan denken is: zet me terug op de grond aub, ik kan niet meer… circus is volhouden, niet flauw doen, blijven gaan, een passie.

Jullie doen levensgevaarlijke stunts op podium: met scherp schieten naar elkaar, met messen gooien,… Op facebook zagen we hoe Bert naar het spoed moest na een fout gelopen stunt met een hamer. Gebeurt het vaker dat stunts mis-lopen tijdens repetities of shows?

Buiten die hamer tegen Bert zijn hoofd en een paar dartspijltjes in zijn rug en voet, mogen we onze handjes kussen. Alles is een berekend risico, maar het is een kwestie van je hoofd erbij houden en alles dubbel checken. Zelfs na 100 keer spelen mag het geen routine worden. En dan zet het accident met de hamer je wel even terug met de voetjes op de grond. Maar circus is en blijft een risico, dat kan je niet volledig wegnemen.

We kunnen ons voorstellen dat jullie publiek vaak met knikkende knieën afwacht op een goed verloop van de stunts. Kan je de spanning bij het publiek voelen bij gevaarlijke acts? Soms slaat er iemand een kreet, of een zucht van verbazing, of een nerveuze lach, en daar doe je het dan voor. Als artiest wil je iets teweeg brengen bij je publiek. Maar op dat moment moet je wel zelf gefo-

cust blijven: bewust van het gevoel bij je publiek maar weten in hoeverre je je erdoor laat meegaan.

Wat is het mooiste compli-ment dat kwam van jullie publiek? Kan je nog zoiets herinneren? Of een leuke anekdote over een interactie met het publiek?Het blijft een klassieker in ons geval. Als wij nadien in de foyer iets gaan drinken en je hoort: “OK?” of “Beeeeert”, met een lach erbij , dan weet

je dat het speelt. Het zijn twee typische uitdrukkin-gen die we gebruiken in onze show. Het mooiste compliment dat wij ooit hebben gekregen was van een vrouw wiens man thuis op sterven lag. In het verleden zag het koppel ons al vaker optreden. Zij diende de laatste zorgen toe aan haar man. Van de pijn kon hij niet veel meer lachen. Maar als zij hem uit de zetel moest hijsen, dan keek hij haar aan en vroeg: “OK?” (met een grote lach op zijn gezicht) Waarop zij heel liefdevol met een lach op haar gezicht “OK” antwoordde… Ze stuurde ons een mail-tje om dit te vertellen en ze bedankte ons… Daar krijg je dan toch wel even kippenvel van.
