The sun is shining on Dorchester Arts! The excellenceof our work over the years has been recognised byArts Council England who have awarded us NationalPortfolio status and a substantial increase in funding.

For the first time ever, we have funding in place for thenext two Dorchester Festivals in 2012 and 2014 aswell as continuing our professional programme and ourexpanding range of community arts projects.

Their fusion of Indian, African and European styles, widely admired and enjoyed for itsenergy and spontaneity, cleverly integrates elements of jazz, classical and dance music.Shiva Nova are spending two days working with every Year 8 student in St. Osmund’s, Puddletown and Dorchester MiddleSchools running workshops in South Indian percussion, African drumming and Indian vocals. THE MOUSEHOLE CATPUPPET SHOWDORCHESTER ARTS CENTRE • 5pm • £7 adults • £6members • £5 children • £20 family • For age 4 to verygrown upPuppetCraft present The Mousehole Cat, based on anaward-winning children’s book by Antonia Barber, toldthrough the miaowing and purring Mowzer the cat aboutthe Cornish fishing village of Mousehole where a storm hasbeen raging for weeks.Everyone is hungry as the boats cannot leave the harbourto fish. Old Tom the fisherman and his cat Mowzer set outto sea in their small boat, braving the fury of the GreatStorm-Cat to try and save the village. The story is inspiredby an old folk legend that is still celebrated each year inthe village of Mousehole.A charming tale brought to life using carved woodenpuppets, coloured shadows, live music, song and soundeffects.Presented in partnership with the Dorset Theatre PromotersConsortium

Dorset-based ANGEL EXIT THEATRE COMPANY, whodeveloped their stunning production Moonfleet atDorchester Arts, have been back in residence rehearsingtheir new show The Secret Garden for our autumn season.

Dancers and musicians of Natasha Player’s companyZUBIDA MOVEMENTS will be resident during Julydeveloping their dance show Obey the Wind, which wasoriginally commissioned by Dorchester Festival.
