POLITECNICO DI MILANO DIPARTIMENTO DI MECCANICA Introduction to Robotic Intelligent Platform POLIMI (Politecnico di Milano), used for application of robotics in manufacturing industry and in general applications Robotic Intelligent Platform POLIMI proposes a toolkit for building low cost robot for co-workers for a broad spectrum of scenarios. The envisaged system approach keeps the human worker in the loop. The goal of Robotic Intelligent Platform POLIMI is to provide safe, tailor made, low cost systems, which are socially accepted by the worker and enable greener, more customized and high quality product. DESCRIPTION The Robotic Intelligent Platform POLIMI has been developed by Politecnico di Milano POLIMI , Department of Mechanics, for the European Project “Locobot” in FP7 of European Union, a program of Research in Europe. Robotic Intelligent Platform POLIMI is working with 4 electric motors, which operate with 4 omnidirectional wheels, which can move the platform in all directions. Locobot uses a Lithium Battery of high power and energy. Robotic Intelligent Platform POLIMI is equipped with radar to recognize the environment and have a memory of all the walls, objects, tool machines, obstacles, objects, equipment, persons, etc. Robotic Intelligent Platform POLIMI is equipped also with a stereo camera and a web canera, to have a complete vision of the environment. It has also 8 infrared sensors and 8 ultrasonic sensors, which detect all the obstacles and give a full safety to the Locobot platform, during the motion. Robotic Intelligent Platform POLIMI has also a voice control for its motion, and a kinect control, which recognizes the arms indications of a person and follows his instructions, according to hand and legs motions. Robotic Intelligent Platform POLIMI works with a microprocessor with special software deviled with ROS operating system, and can communicate by emails of cell phone, tablets, and computer by Wi-Fi.
