Dear Members

Now that we are in the middle of summer there is so much to Celebrate! We have had so many wonderful months so far, as well as great weather. We encourage Members to visit the Club and participate of all the events we have planned for you!

I am so proud to have the opportunity to welcome our new Watermill Manager, Omar Rivera. Omar has been with the Dorado Beach family for many years providing excellent service to our Members and Guests. We would also like to welcome our new Athletic Director, Megan Hurdman. Megan has been part of Dorado Beach as a private Yoga instructor; she has multiple fitness and yoga certifications. Please join me in welcoming Omar and Megan, with their impeccable backgrounds they will be great additions to the Club.

It is with great sadness that we have to say farewell to our Head Golf Professional; Robert Birtel. Robert has accepted the Assistant General Manager’s position at English Turn Country Club in New Orleans Louisiana. Robert played a significant role during his time at Dorado Beach serving our members and guests with passion and professionalism. He will be greatly missed, we wish him and his family the best in their future endeavors and we thank him dearly for his service during his 9 year tenure at Dorado Beach.

In an effort to preserve our exclusivity, we are in the process of updating our Members files. This includes pictures, addresses and phone numbers. If you have changed your phone number, address or your picture was taken more than 2 years ago, we encourage you to visit the Membership office to update this information. Also, present your ID card when registering at any of our facilities and remember that membership cards are not transferable.

As we continue to monitor the safety in our facilities, we added safety bumps and stop signs to the Fitness Center facility; we will also add new signage around the facility as we will officially ban skateboarding for safety reasons.

I wish all of our members to have a fabulous summer!!

Warm Regards,

David R. TysonGeneral Manager/COODorado Beach Resort & Club

Spotlight Jim TealeWe would like to welcome to the team Megan Hurdman (Athletic Director) & Omar Rivera (Watermill Manager).

Megan has been teaching yoga classes at the Resort for some months and has multiple fitness and yoga certifications. Omar has been in the Dorado Beach family for many years as he was first part of the team at West Beach, later spent some time at Encanto and is now back with us as Watermill Manager. We look forward to their addition to the team and the exciting changes they can bring.

How long have you been working in Dorado Beach?M: I have been training and teaching in Dorado Beach since February 2014O: I've been working in Dorado Beach for four years between West Beach and Encanto, both very different places and where I learned a lot thanks to many people who helped me and gave me the opportunity.

What is your most memorable experience here at Dorado Beach?M: I would be torn between teaching yoga at sunrise on the beach or finally getting up on the board during a kiteboarding lesson.O: A memorable moment was the day I got a letter from a person congratulating me and thanking me for offering to help him. I did not know who the person was at the moment and I later find out it was Mr. Federico Stubbe. I was surprised because at the moment I did not know who that person was and today I want to thank him for that and other things he has done for me and my family. This and other moments not only from part of my fellow team members but members that whenever I had a question or concern in a situation with my mom were always there to answer

or help. Thanks to all for those moments! What is the most rewarding part of working here?M: There is a special kind of warmth that is not found everywhere. Not just the tropical warmth, but warmth of the people.O: The most rewarding part of working here is feeling part of the family, I've always said it. It’s feeling the satisfaction of knowing I'm doing my job well when members express their gratitude.

Why do you love Dorado Beach?M:     Dorado Beach is the fusion of all the good things in life. Gorgeous beaches, beautiful scenery, warm weather, good food, amazing people and fun times. What's not to love?O: Because I’ve learned a lot more than I expected here. Working here has been a school for me, and I have an extended family that has given me great opportunities from working at West Beach then on to the first Ritz-Carlton Reserve of America and now in this new stage and opportunity to grow.

What is your vision of a perfect day at the Resort?M:  A perfect day at the Resort would be packed with a little of everything. Starting the day with sunrise yoga at the Surf Lawn, followed by a bike ride around the beautiful golf courses and beaches and a brunch at Zafra. Then making my way to GoodWind's Water sports for some sun and fun at the beach and of course ending the day at sunset with good friends and great food!O: A perfect day would start at the resort for breakfast at Zafra, then would spend the day at the Watermill enjoying the warmth of the sun and cooling down with my favorite cocktail. A hamburguer or chicken “chicharrones” at the Watermil and end the day with beachfront dinner at Barlovento or Encanto.

May 18th was the 71st anniversary of Jim Teale tying for the Big Ten Golf Championship in 1943. Mr. Golf, as he is known in PR, is such an honor to have as a club member.

Fist Art FoundationThe Dorado Beach non-profit organization, bases its mission in the development of site-specific Land Art works in order to better reach the public eye by expanding specialized concepts into new horizons that are designed for the celebration of contemporary art and providing educational programs that help one understand the responding ephemeral way of nature and ones relationship with it. We would like to thank everyone for embracing the annual community project, motivating us to come up with more creative and amusing concepts. We hope you all enjoyed the event as much as we did and stay tuned for what we have in store for next year’s Pet Love!

Wine Seminar On March 20th we celebrated a special Wine Seminar thanks to our friends at Plaza Cellars. Members enjoyed some great wines while socializing and learning about the interesting world of wines from Sommelier Mario Rodriguez. We look forward to celebrating more Wine Seminars so stay tuned for dates.

As an annual community event project, Pet Love (the photography contest) returned celebrating its 5th consecutive year. Arte_FIST welcomed many Dorado Beach members and residents on Saturday, May 17th with the theme of Fashion. The event was an unbelievable success as several

participants had the chance to grace the catwalk strutting their stuff, granting the public with their personal style and individuality as professional photographer Maritza Biascoechea captured it all on camera.

Like every year, all proceeds gathered were donated to an animal shelter in need. This year we chose Mercedita Medina’s non-profit organization, “The Cat Alliance”. All sponsors held a fundamental role in raising funds and awareness allowing all attendees to indulge in fashion by installing actual boutiques for dog fashion, accessories, and furniture. Arte_FIST would like to thank Benjamin Moore, Dorado Beach, Cameron + Sophia’s Pet Club, South Hill Designs, Proyecto Tinglar Dorado, and Kóstum Pet Healthy Hair for their participating and contributing effort.

Pet Love concluded as a fun filled day, were the tennis balls (provided by Plantation’s tennis court), the Catwalk, and doggy pools allowed all pets in attendance to interact with one another. The inauguration of the tunnel, which took place the same day as the event, showcased all the participant’s photographs as part of Pet Love’s [5th Anniversary] homage to fashion and New York City’s iconic window displays.

4th Dorado Beach Basketball Tournament

It was a balanced, exciting season with very entertaining eight weeks of basketball. Six teams made up the league for this season's competition. Elite scoring and dominating basketball skills balanced out the efforts of rebounding and hard-nose defense. Each team had the opportunity to face eachother twice before and after the traditional All-Star game that marks the midpoint of the season.

Closely decided contests seemed to be the theme of this tournament season. With everything from overtime thrillers to games decided by huge plays in the last quarter, this past season was a very competitive one. It was even down to the wire when the playoffs came around. The Orange team definitely shocked both the Black and Blue Team on their way to win the tournament.

The Blue and Black dominated most of the regular season with great team play and offensive power. But it was the Orange team that created trouble for the Black team and Blue team, both considered to be favorites during the regular season. In a single elimination type playoff, the Orange team ousted the Black Team and faced the Blue team which had eliminated the competitive Red Team. A significant double-double from Abraham Rivera seemed to seal the deal in a defense-oriented championship game and awarding Finals MVP.

Green Smoothies

2 Kale large leaves1+ cups green spinach1 frozen banana8oz apple juiceOne lemon (seeds removed)*for a less sweet variation try substituting coconut water for apple juice, or for a nice kick add ginger to the mix. Green smoothies are not only a unique color but they also offer unique health benefits. Made with leafy greens that are loaded with antioxidants and vitamins, green smoothies are an excellent way to enjoy a delicious drink that satisfies hunger and offers maximum nutrition. Dorado Beach Wellness Center will be offering free samples of this and other smoothies beginning in August (9-11am and 5-7pm). Just ask about the flavor of the day. Buen Provecho.

Yoga Stress and anxiety are everywhere. If they're getting the best of you, you might want to hit the mat and give yoga a try.

Yoga is a mind-body practice that combines stretching exercises, controlled breathing and relaxation. Yoga can help reduce stress, lower blood pressure and improve heart function. And almost anyone can do it. Understanding yogaYoga is considered a mind-body type of complementary and alternative medicine practice. Yoga brings together physical and mental disciplines to achieve peacefulness of body and mind, helping you relax and manage stress and anxiety. Yoga has many styles, forms and intensities. Hatha yoga, in particular, may be a good choice for stress management. Hatha is one of the most common styles of yoga, and beginners may like its slower pace and easier movements. But most people can benefit from any style of yoga — it's all about your personal preferences. The core components of hatha yoga and most general yoga classes are:• Poses. Yoga poses, also called postures, are a series of movements designed to increase strength and flexibility. Poses range from lying on the floor while completely relaxed to difficult postures that may have you stretching your physical limits.

•Breathing. Controlling your breathing is an important part of yoga. In yoga, breath signifies your vital energy. Yoga teaches that controlling your breathing can help you control your body and quiet your mind. The health benefits of yogaThe potential health benefits of yoga include:• Stress reduction. A number of studies have shown that yoga can help reduce stress and anxiety. It can also enhance your mood and overall sense of well-being.• Improved fitness. Practicing yoga can lead to improved balance, flexibility, range of motion and strength. And this means you're less likely to injure yourself in other physical endeavors or in your daily activities.• Management of chronic conditions. Yoga can help reduce risk factors for chronic diseases, such as heart disease and high blood pressure. Yoga might also help alleviate chronic conditions, such as depression, pain, anxiety and insomnia. Although you can learn yoga from books and videos, beginners usually find it helpful to learn with an instructor. Classes also offer camaraderie and friendship, which are also important to overall well-being.

Golf News

The 2014 Summer League officially kicks off June 22nd. This year we have a total of 84 players, 6 teams of 14 golfers. This event has increased steadily over the years and this year I am proud to say that this is the largest field ever. For the next two months each team will battle every Sunday to win the league championship. After competing on the course we will all gather at the 19th hole for drinks and storytelling. The following are the dates:

June 22 July 13. Aug 3. Aug 17June 29 July 20. Aug 10. Aug 24

Pro TipPutting

John Borrell PGA Professional

What most people do not realize is that putting is 48% of the game. I have been teaching golf for over 30 years and no matter where I go to teach I see the driving range full and hardly anyone on the putting green. I urge you to practice your putting twice as much of your long game, now I will give you some important fundamentals to improve your putting. 1 Grip- thumbs straight down the grip which will

put the grip handle more in the palms of your hands.

2 Eyes over the ball to see your line more clearly. Ball position off of left chest more forward than you think.

3 The stroke is a 1-2 count and the putter is moved back and thru with the big muscles ( shoulders and arms) the hands just hold the club lightly they do not work the putter head.

4 The head and lower body must remain still, the old saying listen do not look for the ball to go in works great.

5 Length of putt- When faced with a longer putt simply take the putter head back further do not try and hit harder.

6 Practice Drill- My favorite drill for distance control is to line up 5 balls in a row about 4 feet apart, as you are working down the line you should be increasing the length of your stroke to get more speed.

I hope some of these tips help your putting and good luck!
