When the real purpose of sales-team is lost somewhere between inexhaustible paperwork and recordkeeping, it’s time to set off and lead a change. Oberweis Dairy, a milk and dairy products company based in Chicago land, uses a door-to-door sales channel for new customer acquisition. The traditional door-to-door sales method required salespeople to move within and across territories, going door-to-door to tap new prospects and follow up with existing leads while also recording prospect responses and order statuses on paper. Continuous paperwork and time-consuming record keeping were factors that contributed to unacceptable sales performance, which brought Oberweis to LeewayHertz with the idea of an iPad app that could tackle many of the administrative tasks and leave the sales team to focus on selling, not paperwork.

Objectives • Simplify CRM process and eliminate paperwork. • Increase sales team efficiency through reducing the length of the sales cycle • Foster a positive competitive spirit within the sales team by sharing real-time sales statistics.

Paper-to-iPad Transition  Oberweis wanted to increase the efficiency of its sales team, which was possible only if the salespeople were focused on selling. Record keeping could be managed by someone else. This someone else was an iPad app; an app that could do away with paperwork and could give useful directions to the salespeople helping them plan daily visits, capture responses, and follow up with potential customers. The requirement was complex, and transforming this complex requirement into a simple, usable and effective iPad app was a big challenge. It called for a seamless integration of Oberweis’ existing back office systems with a mobile iPad App.

The LeewayHertz Solution  

We developed a custom routing algorithm and used it in sync with Google Maps and Google APIs to enable the iPad app to automatically detect houses around a salesperson’s current location in their given sales territory. Once the exact location was established, the app then displayed the status for every house letting the salesperson know whether it was a potential prospect, an existing lead, or existing registered customer. Knowing this simplified the planning and execution of the sales process. A data caching function facilitates app usage in offline mode or in areas of low Internet connectivity. Furthermore, the app also incorporates a real-time updating mechanism, using which each salesperson could upload captured dispositions & order status in real-time & also view the stats of the other salespeople. Visible real-time sales statistics allowed performance comparisons between reps and motivated the sales team to perform better. In fact, the results were overwhelming with Oberweis enjoying a 30% increase in converted leads after the app roll out, along with a reduced sales cycle.

The Oberweis Consumer App for iPhone makes it incredibly easy for Oberweis customers to connect to their Oberweis accounts, purchase Oberweis products for home delivery, and get more information about Oberweis products and locations. Customers can see detailed product and nutritional information for every product that Oberweis sells. The app also helps customers locate the nearest Oberweis store location. Discounts and promotions are also delivered to users through the app, to help drive sales. Oberweis had such success mobilizing their sales process with the iPad app that we built for them, that they wanted an iPhone app available on the App Store as a convenient sales channel for their customers. Oberweis customers can now purchase products for delivery with just a few taps on their iPhone’s screens, making Oberweis more connected with their customers than ever before.
