Jaldapara Wild Life Sanctuary is famous for its one-horned rhino andthe elephant safari. The morning elephant safari inside the grasslandsis an experience of a lifetime. This is arguably the most popular Jungleof the region among the visitors.

The forest is mainly savannah covered with tall elephant grasses. Themain attraction of the park is the Indian one-horned rhinoceros. Thepark holds the largest rhino population in India after Kaziranga NationalPark in Assam. Buxa Tiger Reserve (B.T.R.) is situated in Alipurduar Sub-division ofJalpaiguri District, West Bengal. It comprises of the entire erstwhile BuxaForest Division (702.44 km), and a part of Cooch- Behar Forest Division(58.43 km). The Reserve lies between latitudes 26o30′ and 26o55′ Nand longitudes 89o20′ and 89o55′ E.

Buxa Tiger Reserve was created in 1983as the 15th tiger reserve. In 1986, BuxaWildlife Sanctuary was constituted over314.52 km of the Reserve forests. In theyear 1991, 54.47 km area was added toBuxaWildlife Sanctuary.

A year later, in 1992, Government ofWest Bengal declared its intentions toconstitute a National Park over 117.10km² of the Buxa Wildlife Sanctuary.State Government finally declaredNational Park vide notificationNo.3403-For/11B-6/95 dt. 05.12.1997.
