� Howie’s dad was in the military during World War Two as well as Miss Gossims’s husband

� Denny was Howie’s best friend and they went to the movies on every Saturday morning

� Howie’s dad made it home safely but Miss Gossim’s husband could be any where

� Miss Gossim ended up moving to Indiana

� Women in America had to sacrifice for the war effort
