Mr. and Mrs. John Ellis and two children and Mr. and Mrs. Desmond Heath and two children all of Ne^ York City are spending the month of August at the Schafer bungalow at the Sound. There will be an Anniversary Mass at St. Patrick’s R. C. Church at 7:30 for Rt. Rev. Msgr. James J. McMahon, who died at his summer home at Beixedon, August 19, 1958. He and the late Rt. Rev. Msgr. Richard J. Hamil- ton, founder and Pastor of St. Gabriel’s In Elmhurst, L. I. spent many years at Southold. Msgr. McMahon was the founder and Pastor of The Church of The Blessed Sacrament in Jackson Heights, L. I. and will be remembered by many of the parishioners of St. Patrick’s. Last week the McMahons at their home at the Sound, were hosts to Mr. and Mrs. Foy Noonan and four chil- dren, Veronica, John, Patrick and Stephen, of Spring Valley, New York. Mrs. Noonan is the niece of Mrs. Mc- Mahon. All enjoyed the visit, especially the swimming and fishing. Mr. and Mrs. George R. Ahlers of Cutchogue and formerly of the Main Road, Southold are the proud parents of a son, James Matthew, born at the Eastern Long Island Hospital on August 13th. Mrs. Walter B. Gagen and daughter, Susan, drove to Oswego this week to get Mrs. Gagen’s mother, Mrs. Al- berta Gadbaw, who has been visiting with her daughter, following a visit with another daughter, Mrs. Russell in Indiana. Mr, and Mrs. William Rusch and children, Bill, Kathy and Judy, recently enjoyed a trip to Cooperstown, N. Y. where they visited the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Farmer’s Museum. They stayed at Otsego Lake for a week. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Terry have been visiting with her parents in the Thous- and Islands for two weeks. They will return home this week end. Mrs. George Fleenor of Southold was the winner of the Merchandise Club at Timm’s this week. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kooperstein of Oakdale, L. I. recently moved into their home on Pine Neck Road which they purchased from Mr. Ferguson. They are making this their permanent home since Mr. Kooperstein has retired from the New York City School System where he has been teaching for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Meredith and daughter, Jane, of Esher, Surrey, Eng- land are spending their vacation at the Brail cottage on the Sound. The Mlnnepaug Club held their An- nual Luncheon at the Sound View Restaurant last Thursday. Mr. Gerald Hurst of Haddonfield, N. J. visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Morris this week. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Paul who celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary on Wednesday evening, August 7th with an outdoor Chicken Barbecue for their family and friends at their home on Seawood Drive. Miss Anne Donahue returned this week from a vacation trip to Bermuda and is spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Dona- hue before returning to her duties on the nursing staff of Mary Immaculate Hospital in Jamaica. Recent guests of Capt. and Mrs. David L. Mudd were Mr. and Mrs. James Phillips and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gordon of Ringoes, N. J.; Mr. and Mrs. Lazell McDanel of Springfield, N. J. and Bob Mudd of Port Smith, Ark. Miss Terry Webb, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rodman Webb, who is a patient at the Eastern Long Island Hospital due to injuries she sustained when struck by an auto on the Main Road several weeks ago would be pleased to hear from her friends. She will be hospitalized for quite some time. Engagement Announced Mr. and Mrs. Edwin P. Lucey of Southold, N. Y. announce the engage- ment of their daughter, Judith, to Mr. John Zaveski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Zaveski of Cutchogue, N. Y. A spring wedding is planned. RAE BASSAREAR Rae Bassarear, 16, of Tucker’s Lane, Southold, died on August 1st at the Brookhaven Hospital. Born in Greenport on May 27, 1947 she had been a resident of Southold most of her life. Surviving are her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. John Bassarear and a brother, Wayne. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 3rd, at the Southold Presby- terian Church with Rev. John Howard officiating. Interment was in Presby- terian Cemetery, Southold, under the direction of the DeFriest Funeral Home.
