Not pictured: Wiremeshmedia. Made of stainlesssteel for durability and longlife, Donaldson wiremeshmedia is designed extra toughfor environments where large,rough particulate needs tobe filtered.

Donaldson also offers waterremoval media. This is mediaformulated with dessicants and

resins to remove moisture andcondensation from petroleum-based fluids. (For concentrationof water greater than half of 1percent [.005%] in the hydraulicoil, we recommend using avacuum dehydrator unit.)

The low resistance of Synteq

to fluid flow makes it ideal forsynthetic fluids, water glycols,water/oil emulsions, HWCF,and petroleum-based fluids.

Note that the natural cellulose

fibers are larger than syntheticfibers and jagged in shape, socontrolling pore size is difficultand there is less open volume.

Lower beta ratings mean thereare smaller pores in the media;smaller media pores cause moreflow resistance, in turn causinghigher pressure drop.

While cellulose provides effectivefiltration for a wide variety of

petroleum-base fluids, in certainapplications it results in poorfiltration performance ascompared to synthetic filters.

A Closer Look at MEDIAthe Heart of the Filter

Natural Fiber (Cellulose) Media

Media is, of course, the mainfactor influencing pressuredrop; indeed, it causes pressuredrop. Thats why having a low-friction, high-flowing media isso important. See the differencesin media in these close-up photosfrom our scanning electronmicroscope in which the mediamat is magnified hundredsof times.

Above left you see Donaldson-developed Synteq syntheticfilter media with its smooth,rounded fibers consistentlyshaped so that we can controlthe fiber size and distributionpattern throughout the mediamat, and still allow the smoothest,least inhibited fluid flow.

Consistency of fiber shapeallows the maximum amountof contaminant-catching surface

area and specific pore size control.The result is media with pre-dictable filtration efficiencies atremoving specified contaminants(i.g., 10m) and maximum dirtholding capacity.

FIKIn-Tank Filters

FeaturesFIK in-tank filters are economical, space-saving unitswith simple screw-on covers, ideal for low pressurein-tank applications. This is a heavy-duty filter, withdie cast aluminum head and steel canister.

The head (and inlet) sit above the tank, with thehousing in the tank. Element flow is outside to inside.

Three service indicators are available: pressure gauge,visual indicator, and electrical indicator. Optional airbreathers are also available.

FIK filter assemblies are provided from the factory with cellulose media.Replacement cartridges are offered in a range of media types and performance ratings.
