The Dominican Republic is in North America.

It is an island in the Caribbean Sea.

It is part of the Antillas.

The coin is the peso. Each peso is divided in 100 cents. The first Dominicanpeso was introduced in 1844.

• The Dominican Republic is a tropical, maritime nation.The annual average temperature is 25ºC while near sea level the average temperature is 28 ºC.January and February are the coolest months of the year and August is the hottest month.Hurricanes are most likely between August and October.

Santo Domingo is the largest city. There are 2,5 million people. It has the biggest part of politic, economic and cultural activities. The first cathedral and hospital of America are there.This is the first cathedral

of America.

A typical lunch in the Dominican Republic is white rice with beans and meat (usually, chicken). This food may be accompanied by salad and fried green plantains (tostones).

The official language is Spanish, but the tourists usually speak in English.

• Dominican flora includes more than 5000 species of plants.

• Many of them can’t be found anywhere else. They are called endemic plants.

• There are lots of natives species like tobbaco, pineapple, mahogany and kapok.

Their costumes have origens in Europa and Africa, with some Taino influences. The fusion of European, African and Taino traditions and customs contributed to the development of present day Dominican culture.

There are different groups regarding class and education.

In The Dominican Republic, 69% of the population is Roman Catholic, 18% is Evangelical, 11% has no religion and 2% has a different religion.

The last census conducted in the country estimated the population as 73% is multiracial (mixed), 16% is white (mainly of Spanish descent) and 11% is black.

We chose The Dominican Republic because Sabela went there last summer and she likes it very much. She saw beautiful and interesting things. And we think it is the milk with ColaCao.
