DISTRICT 10 & 11 - DOMESTIC CUTTING PERMIT CONDITIONS Hardwood Only Areas
Under authority of the Forestry Act, Chapter F-23 and the Cutting of Timber Regulations, the following conditions apply to your permit:
1. PERMIT IS NOT VALID UNLESS MAP(s) AND ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS ARE ATTACHED!
2. Only Hardwoods (Birch, Aspen, Maple, Juniper) along with dead spruce & fir may be cut in your approved cutting areas.
3. Roadside cutting of DEAD or BLOWN DOWN timber is ONLY permitted within 100 meters of the centreline of Provincial or Municipal Highways within Forest Management Areas 10 and 11. Roadside Cutting of standing living timber is NOT PERMITTED.
4. This permit is for the harvesting and transportation of timber.
5. All Timber cut must be removed from Crown Land to a place under permit holder’s control within 12 months.
6. No parking, stopping or piling of wood is permitted in areas that will obstruct ongoing logging operations.
7. Access may be restricted by the department from areas where new roads have been constructed and/or logging operations are ongoing. Domestic harvesting will not be permitted unless signed for cleanup
8. Any forestry activity that directly or indirectly results in silt entering a water body must be dealt with immediately by contacting the Forest Service Office (258-5334). Failure to comply will result in cancellation of permit.
9. No Cutting of timber in Forest Improvement areas (planted or thinned areas) or natural regeneration areas (young thick stands of spruce or fir).
10. No other person may cut timber under this permit (not transferable) unless specified as a helper on the permit. Helpers have NO claim to any timber cut on this permit. Permit must be available for inspection when cutting or transporting wood.
11. No cutting within 100 meters of the Exploits River and No cutting within 50 meters of all other scheduled salmon rivers. No cutting within 30 meters of any other waterbody including lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, brooks, etc. Wider buffers may be required within Protected Water Supply Areas (PWSAs). When applicable, these specific PWSA conditions will be attached to your permit.
12. No cutting within 100 meters of a cabin development area and 30 meters of a cabin.
13. No cutting within 100 meters of the Provincial Trailway and 30 meters of Registered Trails.
14. No forestry activity within 800 meters of a bald eagle or osprey nest during the nesting season (March 15 to July 31 and 200 meters during the remainder of the year. The location of any raptor nests should be reported to the Forest Service Office (258-5334).
15. The attached “Guide to Domestic Woodcutting” is a component of the Forest Service’s Environmental Management System certification – ISO 14001:2015. This brochure has been developed to provide domestic woodcutters with an overview of their responsibilities under the system and should be reviewed by all permit holders.

THE FOLLOWING ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS APPLY TO DOMESTIC
CUTTERS WITHIN THE PROTECTED WATER SUPPLY AREA OUTLINED
ON THE ATTACHED MAP. IF YOU REQUIRE FURTHER INFORMATION,
CALL DEPT. OF ENVIRONMENT & CONSERVATION, GRAND FALLS-
WINDSOR, NL AT 292-4280.
1. NO CUTTING WITHIN 150 METERS OF THE INTAKE POND OR STREAM.
NO CUTTING WITHIN 75 METERS OF THE MAIN RIVER CHANNEL. NO
CUTTING WITHIN 50 METERS OF ALL PONDS AND STREAMS
FLOWING INTO THE INTAKE POND OR STREAM. NO CUTTING
WITHIN 30 METERS OF ALL OTHER WATER BODIES WITHIN THE
PROTECTED WATER SUPPLY AREA.
2. ALL OPERATIONS MUST BE CARRIED OUT IN A MANNER THAT
PREVENTS DAMAGE TO LAND, VEGETATION, AND WATER COURSE,
AND WHICH PREVENT POLLUTION OF WATER BODIES.
3. THE FELLING OR DISPOSING OF TREES, PARTS OF TREES, OR ANY
LOGGING DEBRIS AND SLASH INTO A WATER BODY IS STRICTLY
PROHIBITED.
4. ALL EQUIPMENT MUST BE IN GOOD WORKING ORDER WITH NO
LEAKING FUEL OR OIL.
5. THE USE OF HEAVY EQUIPMENT IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED.
6. MOTORIZED VEHICLES, INCLUDING SNOWMOBILES AND ATV’S,
SHALL NOT BE USED TO CROSS THE FROZEN SURFACE OF THE
INTAKE POND OR ANY OTHER WATER BODY WITHIN THE
PROTECTED WATER SUPPLY AREA.
7. THE PERMIT HOLDER SHALL NOT CROSS, OPERATE IN, NOR DISTURB
ANY BODY OF WATER, EITHER DIRECTLY OR BY MEANS OF
INSTALLING A BRIDGE OR CULVERT, WITHOUT FIRST OBTAINING
APPROVAL UNDER SECTION 11 OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL ACT, c.E-
13.11.
8. ALL WASTE MATERIAL IS TO BE COLLECTED IN REFUSE
CONTAINERS, AND DISPOSED OF AT AN APPROVED WASTE
DISPOSAL SITE OUTSIDE THE PROTECTED WATER SUPPLY AREA IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE WASTE MATERIAL DISPOSAL ACT, RSN 1990
