DOLL – National Green Lab for Lighting & Smart Urban Technologies

DOLL is Denmark’s new platform for developing future LED-lighting and Smart City solutions.

In the DOLL labs we test and demon-strate intelligent and energy-efficient outdoor lighting and Smart City-solu-tions. Our partners are private compa-nies in the lighting sector, but other key players in creating the the Future Smart Society take part: supply companies, telecom & IOT, data analytics & pro-cessing and application & system inte-grators meet in DOLL with cutting edge knowledge, based on solid research at DTU, AAU and our academic partners.

Gains beyond energy savingsThe market for LED-lighting and new intelligent management systems of light is developing rapidly and has great po-tential to lead to significant energy sav-ings. It provides new market opportuni-ties for manufacturers and suppliers to meet the needs of buyers. Needs such as certainty of quality, energy efficiency,

spectral distribution, and longevity of new products.

Technologies to be trustedDOLL’s three laboratories aim to ensure a future-proof transition to new tech-nologies.

DOLL has four focus areas. Common to the four areas is the objective to ensure energy savings and high-quality lighting solutions, and to create knowledge about how lighting can contribute to a better quality perception of indoor and outdoor environments.

• Outdoor lighting • Smart City technologies • Indoor lighting and intelligent

In DOLL’s Living Lab manufac- turers and suppliers present and test lighting- and Smart City-solutions in full scale in Hersted Industrial Park in Al-bertslund. Buyers can visit the area to experience state-of-the-art LED-lighting solutions. The solutions are controlled and data collected and analysed in DOLL Visitor Center, centrally-placed in the Living Lab.

DOLL Living Lab – living laboratory for lighting and Smart City-solutions

In Living Lab buyers and manufactur-ers of lighting solutions can meet in a neutral setting. Buyers can experience various solutions in a natural environ-ment. This gives decision makers better insight and knowledge to make invest-ments in new lighting solutions. Living Lab offers buyers and advisors to• have market transparency through

the opportunity to experience and compare lighting solutions from leading manufacturers

• assess the experienced quality, aes-thetics and safety-creating aspects of light

• see how different lighting systems on the market can be controlled and monitored from the control centre, the DOLL Visitor Center.

Living Lab offers manufacturers and suppliers• A unique opportunity for present-

ing lighting solutions, as well as testing management systems and Smart City-technologies

• A show- and control-room where lighting solutions are managed and customers can visit and compare management systems

• A powerful sales parameter com-bined with impartial documenta-tion from DOLL Quality Lab.

Living Lab provides manufacturers the possibility for increased and qualified dialogue with decision-makers and end-users. That adds more accuracy in product development and adjustments and ensures the buyer better lighting solutions.

DOLL Living Lab demon-strates intelligent urban lighting solutions and other Smart City technol-ogies in full scale in a live urban environment.

Living Lab features 10 kilo-metres of roads and bike lanes in Hersted Industrial Park in Albert-slund Municipality demon-strating intelligent LED-light-ing solutions, sensors, and control systems.

In DOLL Living Lab you will find 10 kilometres of roads and bike lanes with:

• 50 different unique light-ing solutions

• 300 LED-lightsources• 30 partner companies• DOLL Visitor Centre and

Smart City technologies provide new Urban Services

SUS - Smart Urban Services - is the Smart City-platform within DOLL Living Lab, where Smart City solutions are demon-strated and tested. The purpose is to look at different types of public services and make them smart. This involves operation of roads, sewers, water, energy, traffic and more.

Through sensors that detect for example light, sound, contamination, temperature,

movement, or the like data from the city will be collected. Several communication systems will be tested to ensure, that the sensors communicate with eachother.

Furthermore user-friendly applications will be tested and developed in order to make the data collected useful for municipal employees or city residents for example through applications for tablets or Smartphones.

Quality Lab is a high-tech laboratory at The Technical Univer-sity of Denmark (DTU), which is one of the largest research environments for photonics in Europe. Quality Lab creates the foundation for developing quality products, increase product reliability and ensuring adherence to European and international standards.

QUALITY LAB

Contact:Jakob Munkgaard AndersenCSO, DOLL Quality Lab+45 6139 [email protected]

DOLL Quality Lab can test and charac-terise light sources, fixtures, lamps and lighting components for the benefit of manufacturers and suppliers. Through impartial documentation, Quality Lab ensures regions, municipalities, and oth-er buyers a safe foundation for making decisions about new lighting solutions.

Prior to tenders and after installation Quality Lab can impartially assist manu-facturers in testing all aspects such as:

• Total flux• Colour temperature• Spectral analysis• Power consumption• Colour coordinatesThe tests contribute to validate offers and to document the effect and efficien-cy of the light.

Assistance with tenders for buyersQuality Lab can impartially assist munici-palities, regions and other buyers with:

• making future-proof requirements for lighting solutions in new tenders

• testing quality of chosen lighting solutions conducting measurements of lighting after installation to doc-ument that the solution meets the demanded requirements.

In these ways, Quality Lab provides the foundation for reliable, quality products, and ensures adherence to European and global standards for lighting.

Virtual Lab is a high-tech laboratory located at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The laboratory can test, develop and validate lighting solutions that are virtually generated in 3D. Virtual models are powerful tools for saving resources in product development and ensuring optimal light solutions.

DOLL Virtual Lab - 3D simulation of lighting solutions

At Virtual Lab, virtual models of possible lighting solutions are created. The lab is considered a tool for validation and concept assessment wherein light solu-tions are tested, presented, assessed for further development and accepted before making a physical construction and, eventually, the actual product. Manufacturers, contractors, and public decision-makers can use the laboratory for developing and implementing illumi-nants and lighting solutions.

See the light early in the processVirtual Lab enables manufacturers to:

• scientifically visualise solutions in an early stage of development

• build, simulate and modify 3D-mod-els based on technical measure-ments in DOLL’s Quality Lab

• replicate the characteristics of illu-minants and light fixtures concern-ing, for example, effect, dissemina-tion, reflection and glare

• involve decision-makers, users and others in relation to aesthetics, functionalities and other qualitative conditions.

Virtual Lab works closely with Quality Lab. The constellation enables techni-cal measurements of illuminants, light fixtures and materials for realistic virtual simulations in Virtual Lab.
