The new Dolby Cinema in Eindhoven greets visitors with a signature entrance, indicating to them that they are about to experience something truly different. A facade of signature matte black panels surrounds the entrance, while concealed cove lighting casts a soft glow on the wall behind. The simple yet refined applications of signage materials and lighting act as a way-finding mechanism and are representative of the premium technology and design within. An illuminated white Dolby Cinema logo marks the point of entry and provides a badge of excellence for the best available cinema experience.

Crossing the entrance threshold, visitors are guided along a curving pathway immersed in full-height projected imagery and sound. This pathway is intended to create a sensory separation and transition from the public hall or lobby space into the tightly controlled acoustic and visual environment of the auditorium. The elongated, continuously curved projection wall provides a new canvas for studio creatives to begin telling their story with a unique image and sound experience before the show begins.

Dolby Cinema has implemented sophisticated visual and acoustic room treatments that have been tuned for a premium cinematic experience. As audiences enter into the Dolby Cinema auditorium, they will be met with a screening room like no other. The focal point of the room is a wall-to-wall projection screen that appears to hover just off the front wall of the room. This “floating” effect – with no visible connections to the floor, walls, or ceiling – ensures that as little light as possible affects adjacent surfaces, which would otherwise distract from the projected image and reflect light back onto the screen. The soft, ethereal halo lighting around the screen helps provide additional focus to the screen when no projection is present, creating more depth and presence to the floating effect.

The placement and quality of lighting from the Dolby Cinema entrance to the Projection Path and auditorium provides a consistent way-finding device as well as a strong brand identity throughout the visitor experience. The lighting coves are specifically detailed to provide a soft and subtle light path, with a gradual falloff along adjacent surfaces. The overall effect of this indirect lighting scheme is to provide a comfortable and upscale feel to the space and subtly accentuate the architectural components, while allowing the auditorium to become as dark as possible when the screening begins.

As audiences enter into the Dolby Cinema auditorium, they will be met with a wall-to-wall-to-ceiling screen with atmospheric lighting softly edging the screen and aisles. Wrapping and folding across the walls and ceilings of the room are faceted acoustic panels uniquely designed to hide the speakers placed around the auditorium to eliminate distraction, enhance sound quality, and heighten the sense of immersion.
