ABSTRACTSince environmental problems are becoming
increasingly important as political issues, these resource unitsserve as a base for the study of political and legal influences onenvironmental control. Inquiry questions and learning activities aredesigned to gain an understanding of: (1) the forces that giveimpetus to present environmental law, (2) the relationship ofdifferent levels of government that are involved in the environmentwhether in policy setting, law making, or enforcement capacity, and(3) court procedures in environmental cases. Also, they provide anopportunity to: (1) recognize types of propaganda and evaluate factsutilized in making environmental decisions, (2) recognize thatinstigating environmental improvement implies responsible financialbacking, and (3) participate in bringing about desired changes byresponsible action. Each of the three units, Local Government and theEnvironment, State and Federal Government and the Environment, andAwakening the Process for Change, is sub-divided into inquiryquestions, learning activities, resource materials, possibleevaluation techniques, teacher suggestions, student comments, andteacher comments. A resource bibliography also includes a set of 2035mm slides. This work was prepared under an ESEA Title III contractfor the project "Broad Spectrum Environmental Education Program."(BL)
