Mother… ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! K(!?'/)=!J%4#'!

The mother is so much more than just a female parent that produces life; she is the source of strength that became the matriarch of civilizations. The mother in all of her endearing qualities has always been a historical presence encompassing the whole entire world, she is the functioning entity of life that brings forth other lives, children that are the seed of the father, but cultivated in the root of the womb of the mother which is the cradle of life. She the mother nourishes the child with understanding and gives a purpose for internal value while consistently opening up the windows of our eyes and providing substance to our souls, which manifest itself into character a positive attribute instilled during the nurturing process while still an infant. The mother is the protector, provider and the producer of life, a blessing bestowed upon her by God. She is cautious and careful as she prepares us for different stages of life administering lessons of survival that are the blue print for success, only to be abandoned all to often by us the child because we praise the external presence of our existence and set aside the content of our character for something superficial. The mother is the beacon of light shining upon us, persistent light guiding us to the path of righteousness reminding us that we have deviated from a standard developed by her, but she the mother still possessed with unconditional love guides us with a mothers intuition and we respond by becoming the child that concurs with her authority and once again we absorb the words of endearment from her the mother...

Long dubbed “the world's oldest teenager” because of his boyish appearance, Clark bridged the rebellious new music scene and traditional show business, and equally comfortable whether chatting about music with Sam Cooke or bantering with Ed McMahon about TV bloopers. He long championed black singers by playing the original R&B versions of popular songs, rather than the pop cover. He thrived as the founder of Dick Clark Productions, supplying movies, game and music shows, beauty contests and more to TV. Among his credits: “The $25,000 Pyramid,” ''TV's Bloopers and Practical Jokes” and the American Music Awards. !! For a time in the 1980s, he had shows on all three networks and was listed among the Forbes 400 of wealthiest Americans. Clark also was part of radio as partner in the United Stations Radio Network, which provided programs — including Clark's — to thousands of stations. The original “American Bandstand” was one of network TV's longest-running series as part of ABC's daytime lineup from 1957 to 1987. It later aired for a year in syndication and briefly on the USA Network. Over the years, it introduced stars ranging from Buddy Holly to Madonna. The show's status as an American cultural institution was solidified when Clark donated Bandstand's original podium and backdrop to the Smithsonian Institution. !!Clark joined “Bandstand” in 1956 after Bob Horn, who'd been the host since its 1952 debut, was fired. Under Clark's guidance, it went from a local Philadelphia show to a national phenomenon. !!“I played records, the kids danced, and America watched,” was how Clark once described the series' simplicity. In his 1958 hit “Sweet Little Sixteen,” Chuck Berry sang that “they'll be rocking on Bandstand, Philadelphia, P-A.”!!As a host, he had the smooth delivery of a seasoned radio announcer.

Page 8: Document copy 4

Clark idolized his athletic older brother, Bradley, who was killed in World War II. In his 1976 autobiography, “Rock, Roll & Remember,” Clark recalled how radio helped ease his loneliness and turned him into a fan of Steve Allen, Arthur Godfrey and other popular hosts.!!From Godfrey, he said, he learned that “a radio announcer does not talk to 'those of you out there in radio land'; a radio announcer talks to me as an individual.”!!Clark began his career in the mailroom of a Utica, N.Y., radio station in 1945. By age 26, he was a broadcasting veteran, with nine years' experience on radio and TV stations in Syracuse and Utica, N.Y., and Philadelphia. He held a bachelor's degree from Syracuse University. While in Philadelphia, Clark befriended McMahon, who later credited Clark for introducing him to his future “Tonight Show” boss, Johnny Carson.!! In the 1960s, “American Bandstand” moved from black-and-white to color, from weekday broadcasts to once-a-week Saturday shows and from Philadelphia to Los Angeles. Although its influence started to ebb, it still featured some of the biggest stars of each decade, whether Janis Joplin, the Jackson 5, Talking Heads or Prince. But Clark never did book two of rock's iconic groups, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Elvis Presley also never performed, although Clark managed an on-air telephone interview while Presley was in the Army.!!

As a producer, he had an ear for a hit record. He also knew how to make wary adults welcome this odd new breed of music in their homes. !!Clark endured accusations that he was in with the squares, with critic Lester Bangs defining Bandstand as “a leggily acceptable euphemism of the teenage experience.” In a 1985 interview, Clark acknowledged the complaints. “But I knew at the time that if we didn't make the presentation to the older generation palatable, it could kill it.”!!“So along with Little Richard and Chuck Berry and the Platters and the Crows and the Jayhawks... the boys wore coats and ties and the girls combed their hair and they all looked like sweet little kids into a high school dance,” he said.!!But Clark defended pop artists and artistic freedom, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame said in an online biography of the 1993 inductee. He helped give black artists their due by playing original R&B recordings instead of cover versions by white performers, he invited black teens on his shows and he condemned censorship.!!“I just always considered Dick a wonderful friend. He was always good and supportive of me, but every other musical performer I know of would say the same thing,” said Pat Boone. “Careers grew because of Dick Clark. He is going to be sorely missed.”!!His stroke in December 2004 forced him to miss his annual appearance on “Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve.” He returned the following year and, although his speech at times was difficult to understand, many praised his bravery, including other stroke victims.!! Still speaking with difficulty, he continued taking part in his New Year's shows, though in a diminished role.!!“I'm just thankful I'm still able to enjoy this once-a-year treat,” he told The Associated Press by e-mail in December 2008 as another New Year's Eve approached.!!He was honored at the Emmy Awards in 2006, telling the crowd: “I have accomplished my childhood dream, to be in show business. Everybody should be so lucky to have their dreams come true. I've been truly blessed.”!!Friends on Wednesday recalled a patient, encouraging man. "He was there for every crisis of my life and there were many,” Connie Francis said in statement. “Without Dick Clark there would have been no career because I was ready to abandon it. Dick was the most principled man I ever met in this business and treated everyone the same way, even if you were the little guy.”!!He was born Richard Wagstaff Clark in Mount Vernon, N.Y., in 1929. His father, Richard Augustus Clark, was a sales manager who worked in radio.!!

When Michael Jackson died in June 2009, Clark recalled working with him since he was a child, adding, “of all the thousands of entertainers I have worked with, Michael was THE most outstanding. Many have tried and will try to copy him, but his talent will never be matched.”!!Clark kept more than records spinning with his Dick Clark Productions. Its credits included the Academy of Country Music and Golden Globe awards; TV movies including the Emmy-winning “The Woman Who Willed a Miracle” (1984), the “$25,000 Pyramid” game show and the 1985 film “Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins.” Clark himself made a cameo on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and a dramatic appearance as a witness on the original “Perry Mason.” He was an involuntary part of Michael Moore's Academy Award-winning “Bowling for Columbine,” in which Clark is seen brushing off Moore as the filmmaker confronts him about working conditions at a restaurant owned by Clark.!!

Page 9: Document copy 4

In 1974, at ABC's request, Clark created the American Music Awards after the network lost the broadcast rights to the Grammy Awards.!!He was also an author, with “Dick Clark's American Bandstand” and such self-help books as “Dick Clark's Program for Success in Your Business and Personal Life” and “Looking Great, Staying Young.” His unchanging looks inspired a joke in “Peggy Sue Gets Married,” the 1986 comedy starring Kathleen Turner as an unhappy wife and mother transported back to 1960. Watching Clark on a black and white TV set, she shakes her head in amazement, “Look at that man, he never ages.”!!Clark's clean-cut image survived a music industry scandal. In 1960, during a congressional investigation of “payola” or bribery in the record and radio industry, Clark was called on to testify.!!He was cleared of any suspicions but was required by ABC to divest himself of record-company interests to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest. The demand cost him $8 million, Clark once estimated. His holdings included partial ownership of Swan Records, which later released the first U.S. version of the Beatles' smash “She Loves You.”!!In 2004, Clark announced plans for a revamped version of “American Bandstand.” The show, produced with “American Idol” creator Simon Fuller, was to feature a host other than Clark. !!He was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 1994 and served as spokesman for the American Association of Diabetes Educators.!!Clark, twice divorced, had a son, Richard Augustus II, with first wife Barbara Mallery and two children, Duane and Cindy, with second wife Loretta Martin. He married Kari Wigton in 1977.!!“Generations of Americans grew up with Dick, and yet he seemed forever young,” Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in a statement. “His spirit will always live on in Times Square, and in hearts of millions of New Yorkers.”

Stroke Rising Among Young People By TARA PARKER-POPE, Editor

More young people and adults in their 30s and 40s are being hospitalized for stroke, even as stroke rates are

dropping in older people, new data show.

The findings, reported this week at the American Stroke Association conference in Dallas, may be a sign that

that rising rates of obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure among teenagers and young adults are taking a toll.

Or it may simply be that physicians have improved their diagnosis and reporting of stroke in young people

during the past decade.

Ischemic stroke occurs when a clot or narrowing of the arteries stifles the blood supply to the brain. Analysts at

the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reviewed the number of acute ischemic stroke hospitalizations

by age and sex from 1994 to 2007. They found that stroke hospitalizations among men and women 45 and older

have fallen by 25 and 29 percent, respectively.

But stroke hospitalizations rose sharply among men and women ages 15 to 44, including a 51-percent jump

among 15- to 34-year-old men. There were also notable increases among children, though the number of strokes

in children remains very small over all. The study found increases of more than 30 percent in boys and girls ages

5 to 14. Hospitalization for strokes declined, however, in girls younger than 5.

The study authors urged caution in interpreting the results, because the research wasn’t designed to determine

the reasons behind the changing hospitalization trends. A number of factors could explain the rise in young

people, including changes in the way hospitals track patients admitted for stroke. Better awareness about stroke

risk in young people, more referrals of young patients to stroke neurologists and improved diagnostic ability

using scanning technology could also be fueling the rise in younger age groups. A rise in obesity and other

related health problems may also explain some of the increase.

Also notable is the apparent decline in stroke among older people, which may be

explained by stepped-up efforts at preventing stroke among the elderly. That said,

the researchers pointed out that stroke is still far more common among older adults

than among young people.

“This study shows that by far and away the vast majority of strokes still are

occurring in those over 65,” said a study co-author, Dr. Mary G. George, medical

officer in the division for heart disease and stroke prevention at the C.D.C. Dr.

George said more study is needed to understand the latest findings, which are most

likely explained by some combination of “patient and system factors.”

“The study wasn’t designed to look at possible causes behind it,” said Dr. George. “We feel this certainly deserves further investigation.”

Loyalty, Love & Hip Hop

Remember when Hip Hop use to have that feel good feeling that enticed crowd participation, signaling everyone to the dance floor? This was when people actually came out to have a good time and leave exhausted because they partied so hard. Fresh trends that added dopeness to the Hip Hop Era, like Kangols, Adidas jogging suits and shell toes… If you were really fly you had a pair of Gazelles to top it off and a dookey gold rope. Am I reminiscing too hard? Maybe so, but I am just reflecting on good times and good music. The type of music that once had substances and in the days of Public Enemy once used that podium to help spread messages and share knowledge. Today we are so bombarded with a different sound it kind of drowns out everything else. So if you are a true Hip Hop junkie, of course you are going to like a little bit of everything but from time to time you may miss the good old days, The Essence Of Hip Hop …I have something to share with you…

Page 17: Document copy 4

I have heard his name from time to time on several occasions. Never thought twice about it. One day I was having a conversation with a friend of mines and this name came up again. At that moment J. Rawls struck me as someone of significance that I needed to know about. I was right, if you are a music lover, he is definitely someone you should have knowledge of. Columbus, Ohio very own musical rare jewel. I was very impressed with what I read and the music I heard. J. Rawls deemed to be a very talented prodigy of music. A rapper/producer that also went by the name Dynomite back in the days, not to mention … he also was known to beat box. A graduate from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelors in Business, he is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, Alpha Alpha chapter. I also learned that J. Rawls has been involved with the music scene since 1997. He has an extensive collection of music that is consistent with the true purity of sheer hip-hop! I applaud J. Rawls for remaining true to himself and not conforming to the drastic changes in today's Hip Hop. So pardon me if my knowledge of J Rawls is passed over due, but please take in consideration for the last few months I been doing my homework and I'm here now letting everyone know that when we speak of music, "quality music that is ", J. Rawls name should definitely be mentioned. His accomplishment in themselves are astounding, yet encouraging enough to inspire any music lover to make and follow a path of their own to the land of forever. By this I mean if you ever loved something, and your passion is strong for it, you will stick with it no matter what everyone else is doing. J. Rawls got his big break when he was introduced to Kweli by Donte, a rapper from the Cincy group Mood. Mos Def and Talib Kweli were formerly known as Black Star. J. Rawls contributed production on "Brown Skin Lady" and "Yo, Yeah," which placed him on the map among producers in the hip hop-music genre making that album one of the best albums of 1998. J. Rawls' first solo album came in 2001, with "The Essence Of." He then released his second solo album called "The Essence of Soul" in 2005 on his own label POLAR Records. Polar has a meaning behind it and that is, " Polar stands for positive outlook links active reality. J. Rawls is also one half of the duo 3582. Busy man right? He began working with a band called "Attention Disorder " and together they fused Hip Hop and Jazz together, creating "Jazz Hop". In 2006, J. Rawls received much acclaim with The Liquid Crystal Project's "A Tribute To Dilla 7""which was an ode to one of J. Rawls' favorite producers, J Dilla. 2008 he dropped The Liquid Crystal Project II. This group consists of members J. Rawls, B jazz, Rob Riley, Eddie Bayard and Charles Cooper. J Rawls most recent release is Liquid Crystal Project III. I'm sure it will be just as successful as the last project. J Rawls will serve as Artist-In-Residence at Tiffin University during the 2012-13 academic year, Rawls will present twelve convocations and workshops focusing on hip-hop, music production, and music Industry related topics. Man, you see this new Hip Hop, it don't foster no thought man, it don't spread no knowledge, it don't give 'em nothing man, but its up to us to give' em that knowledge, that wisdom, that understanding -"Face It " J. Girlfriends Talk: What do Hip Hop mean to you? J. Rawls: Very good question. Hip Hop is a feeling. Hip Hop is how the music makes you feel. It's about what makes you passionate. A Tribe Called Quest makes me feel passion, whereas Drake makes my students feel that same passion. Girlfriends Talk: Would you consider Wale real Hip Hop? J. Rawls: I am not sure if I agree with you about Wale. Don't get me wrong, I don't really listen to Wale, but I see how his music affects my students. They feel it. It's Hip Hop to them. We can't front on that. How can we say that some folks don't feel Wale, just cuz we don't, don't make it so.....trust me It has taken me years to get to this point. I used to be like this new ish sucked. I still don't mess with it. But I do understand how young people enjoy it. We gotta keep in mind, these young kids have a different frame of reference as to what hip hop is. most of my students don’t know who Rakim or Krs etc are!!!! so we gotta keep it real... Girlfriends Talk: Music has changed so much, it is filled with sexual, materialism and violence. J. Rawls: You are right, rap is so sexual, materialistic, but think about it.....that is ALL that is out there now, everywhere! I mean real talk, think about it...Television, movies, videos. Everything these kids see is sexual, not just the music. You know what I’m saying? It’s everywhere. So that is why hip hop is that way now.... Girlfriends Talk : So to sum up Hip Hop? J.Rawls: Hip Hop is what the music makes you feel, the way you dress, feel about yourself, the way you walk (kids call it swag today, we just called it Hip Hop. lol) Hip Hop is a culture and a culture is a way of Life - DMC Hip Hop is a artistic, musical, Visual, expression of people-DMC !!

Page 20: Document copy 4

Hip hop is a form of musical expression and artistic subculture that originated in African-American and Hispanic-American communities during the 1970s in New York City, specifically within the Bronx. The term often refers to hip hop music, which consists of poetry that is spoken - rather than sung - over either original or sampled instrumental recordings mixed with new original sounds from drum machines, and/or other instruments. However, the culture has expanded far beyond its original roots, and now is considered a worldwide subculture comprising rapping, DJing, hip hop dance, and graffiti art - the so-called "Four Pillars of Hip Hop".

The block parties of DJ Kool Herc at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, where Herc would mix samples of existing records with his own shouts to the crowd and dancers, are generally considered the birthplace of hip hop. Kool Herc is credited as the 'father' of the art form. DJ Afrika Bambaataa of the hip-hop collective Zulu Nation outlined the four pillars of hip hop culture: MCing, DJing, B-boying and graffiti writing. Since its emergence in the South Bronx, hip hop culture has spread to both urban and suburban communities throughout the world. Hip hop music first emerged with Kool Herc and contemporary disc jockeys and imitators creating rhythmic beats by looping breaks (small portions of songs emphasizing a percussive pattern) on two turntables, more commonly referred to as sampling. This was later accompanied by "rap", a rhythmic style of chanting or poetry presented in 16 bar measures or time frames, and beatboxing, a vocal technique mainly used to imitate percussive elements of the music and various technical effects of hip hop DJ's. An original form of dancing and particular styles of dress arose among fans of this new music. These elements experienced considerable refinement and development over the course of the history of the culture.

The relationship between graffiti and hip hop culture arises from the appearance of new and increasingly elaborate and pervasive forms of the practice in areas where other elements of hip hop were evolving as art forms, with a heavy overlap between those who wrote graffiti and those who practiced other elements of the culture. Today, graffiti remains part of hip hop, while crossing into the mainstream art world with renowned exhibits in galleries throughout the world. Hip Hop is simultaneously a new and old phenomenon. It follows in the footsteps of previous American musical genres like Blues (Created in the Southern United States at the height Jim Crow Policies), and its Urban equivalents Jazz & Rock Roll. Where it differs from its predecessors is in the range of distinct art forms (MC-ing, DJ-ing, B-Boying, Graffiti and their derivatives) generated in the culture, and in the fact that, for the first time, its architects control its dissemination, whereas its predecessors have been integrated into the mainstream, the most pertinent example being Rock & Roll. At its best, Hip Hop has given a voice to the voiceless & showcased their artistic ingenuity and talent on a global scale; at its worst Hip Hop has mirrored the worst aspects of the mainstream culture that it once challenged: materialism, sexism, homophobia, an internalized racism and an apathy towards intellectualism (the most crucial element in the culture according to its most celebrated founder Afrika Bambataa).

Life Tip of the Week "Bag Lady, you gon' hurt your back, draggin' all them bags like that..." In other words, by holding onto your emotional baggage (which attribute to our negative belief systems that we have about ourselves, other women, men, situations, etc.) we are only damaging ourselves and blocking our blessings. Dragging these "bags" around severely inhibit us from living our best lives! One of our "bags" may have written on it "I really don't deserve to be happy", or "Even though I want one, I really do not feel worthy of a good man", or even perhaps one says "Who am I to try and be great? That could never be me. I could never <insert goal here such as 'start my own business'.>" Those bags, that we are often not aware of, will plant in us a fear and cause us to not go after life achievements out of fear of failure, humiliation, success or even cause us to sabotage our own self when trying to reach those same achievements. It's a mess but it's real and goes much deeper, however, when you allow yourself the freedom to let those 'bags' go... it's beautiful. I hope you can join us for the free teleconference. Information and registration can be found in Highlighted Events.

Dating Tip of the Week "When they see you comin', ----- take off runnin', from you...it's true... oh yes they do..." In other words, carrying around these "bags" will cause you to walk around with an attitude or "chip on your shoulder", speak, or act harshly causing someone that may have once thought you to be attractive & approachable to change their minds and well, take off runnin'! Maybe you have a bag that says "All men are dogs and no good", trust and know that belief system is shining brightly through your behavior when you interact with men. Real men can sense it and no real man wants to deal with any woman with those kind of hang-ups. (And vice versa too men!) Happy Dating!

Romance Tip of the Week "One day, he gon' say, you crowdin' my space..." In other words, those "bags" you carry around will cause you to behave negatively in your relationship and if you keep it up, that man or woman is going to get sick of the insecurities, the questions, the drama, the arguments, the phone and Facebook checking...and leave. Example: Fellas, perhaps your mother wasn't around and your ex-wife cheated on you so now you may have a couple of bags that say "women can't be trusted" & "every woman I love ends up hurting me". You date, manage to get yourself a girlfriend, and then you constantly worry about her whereabouts, act funny if she wants go out with her friends, or even accuse her of actions she may not have committed. She is going to feel suffocated and "crowded" and ultimately want to end the relationship.

5 Simple Steps for Achieving Any Goal If you're not happy with your body then your workouts have lost focus. !!What is your immediate goal? !!If you don't have a

ready answer then chances are good that your motivation is low and it has resulted in a lack of results. !!I know from firsthand

experience that operating without a goal will get you nowhere. Sure, you may still be exercising regularly and eating

mindfully but without that concrete goal your efforts will yield little results. !!1. Setting your goal !!You want to be in "better

shape" but that's so vague. Dig deeper. !!What specifically do you wish you had now that you don't?

To drop 3 dress sizes.

To lose 2 inches of arm fat jiggle.

To melt 4 inches from your waist.

To be able to run 3 miles without stopping.

2. Define your timeline !!Now that you've determined exactly what part of your body isn't up to par, tie that goal in with a

specific timeline. When you have a timeline to measure your progress against, you'll find that achieving your goal becomes

an easier process.

• To drop 3 dress sizes by August 20th vacation.

• To lose 2 inches of arm fat jiggle by October 13th wedding.

• To melt 4 inches from your waist by July 7th pool party.

• To be able to run 3 miles without stopping by June 16th city 5k.

3. Name your prize !!It's time to take your motivation to the next level. Now that your specific goal is set and your timeline is

clearly defined, let's add a prize that you'll receive once you've accomplished your goal. This prize shouldn't be anything

related to your unhealthy habits – so no junk food or extra large meals. Make the prize an item that will reinforce your

slimmer body, like a nice piece of clothing.

• A couple new outfits for your August vacation.

• A sleeveless dress for the October wedding.

• A new swimsuit for your July pool party.

• A new pair of running shoes for your June 5k.

4. Picture it !!You know what you want, when you want it by, and the reward you'll get by achieving it. Now spend time

picturing your end goal. Find a comfortable, quiet corner, close your eyes and see a mental movie – starring yourself –

enjoying your reward with your new and improved body. Play your mental success movie several times throughout the day.

• See yourself enjoying an afternoon of your vacation, wearing your new clothes with confidence.

• Imagine how you'll feel walking down the aisle baring your toned arms.

• See yourself lounging by the pool in your swimsuit, carefree and happy.

Z Imagine the feeling of accomplishment you'll feel as you cross the finish line. !

5. Recipe for success !!The steps that you've taken above have prepared you to mentally take on the challenge of motivating yourself through this transformation process. All that remains is a solid exercise and nutrition plan to push you through to your new body. !!This is where I come in. !!I'm fanatical about propelling each and every one of my clients through their own personal body transformation. !
