Design is planning

When we design somthing we think about it in terms of past present and future. It deals with, timeless, discrete/defined concepts and ideas. It is not reactive, its is objective and calculated.

Its power lies in its consistency, reproducability, precision, and clarity.

Art is an activity. its somthing that is done in the present in responce to present stimulus, feelings, & emotions. It is a performance, dialouge, or dance. It is not passive, but reactive.

Its power lies in its ability to manipluate, understand, and relay ineffable information that can not be directly concieved/defined.

Art can not exist without Design and design cannot exist without art.

Commercial Art-Design Vs Traditional/Folk Art

Commercial art is generally about mass communication. It acknoledges the power of art but attempts to reliably harness it by creating a strict dichtomy between art and design. Artists are ultimatly paid for thier subjective opinions but only in so far as thier objective knowledge of thier audience and industry allows.

Traditional Art focus less on the specifics and more on the performance. It is apreciated as a tangable represenation of what is to be human, echos of thoughts, and acivities, passed on for generations.
