A PhD is a research degree designed for those who want a career in academia and is often very theoretical. A DBA is a professional doctorate with a focus on using research to enhance business practice.

The primary goal of the DBA is to make a direct contribution to the practice of business management, policy or strategy.

During years one and two, you will undertake 6 self-study courses through our innovative online learning platform. These are designed to equip you with the skills you will need for your business research project during your third and final year.

This project could focus on a real-life business situation, or a problem that you are dealing with in your current work situation. It could also be a business idea that you want to explore or focus on, or current ideas that are impacting the industry you are working in.

Throughout your time at GBS you will be supported by the DBA Program Coordinator and the program team in Barcelona. In your final year you will also receive direct support from an experienced professional who is in the same field of interest as you.

Once the project is complete, you will present it to a panel of experts in your field.

The world is rapidly facing new environmental, economic and social challenges, and corporations more than ever need to be proactive in confronting them. Future business leaders will be called on to help solve the next great problems of the 21st century.

With that in mind, GBS has developed a doctorate program that allows students to specialize in CSR issues and benefit from the supervision and mentorship of Professor Michael Hopkins, one of the world’s leading experts on both the theory and practice of CSR.

The GBS DBA encourages practical implementation of the concepts learned in class. Students on the program will be invited to join an international network of CSR practitioners and researchers such as in club.csrfi.com. Special emphasis will be placed on students developing their own CSR initiatives.

Focus onCorporate Social Responsibility

• Corporate Social Responsibility is concerned with treating the stakeholders of a company or institution ethically or in a responsible manner. ‘Ethically or responsible’ means treating key stakeholders in a manner deemed acceptable according to international norms.

• Social includes economic and environmental responsibility. Stakeholders exist both within a firm and outside.

• The wider aim of social responsibility is to create higher and higher standards of living, while preserving the profitability of the corporation or the integrity of the institution, for peoples both within and outside these entities.

• Corporate means any body private, public or NGO.

• CSR is a process to achieve sustainable development in societies.

What our students say

DR. ANGELO AMONINICEO, Structures Consulting AG, Herisau/SG, Switzerland

PRISCA BOVIKOH CHULLEYPoland

ALEJANDRA OTEROColombia

“I chose GBS for 2 main reasons: the boutique business school concept and its technology-oriented mindset. At GBS you’re not just a number, everyone knows you by name and you feel like you’re part of the family. Also, the teaching methodology is very unique, as it is project-based and constantly fosters collaboration. Finally, the fact that their faculty members are practitioners gives me great expectations about the doors they could open to local contacts; to build a local network and boost my current business.”

“At Geneva Business School I appreciated the opportunity to commence the entire research study on small & medium size enterprises in Switzerland, parallel with my everyday responsibilities. Working with Dr. Dominique Xardel as supervisor, was a great privilege. Dr. Xardel provided me with many ideas and was always available to help in our discussions. Studying here sharpened my analytical and academic skills. Moreover, it broadened my personal perception.”

“My wish was to work and grow in an international environment and thanks to Geneva Business School, the knowledge and experience I acquired gave me self confidence. It has assisted me in my career development. With my present job, I enjoy taking part in international negotiation. I am so thankful to my lecturers who provided me with the best and accurate information. I am fortunate to be able to use this knowledge in my daily work life.”
