West Virginia high school senior Plan to attend college Major in some form of Environmental Studies: Horticulture, Landscape Design, Forestry, Botany,

2017 Disability History Essay Contest

Dear West Virginia High School Seniors:

The Disability History Contest Committee is proud to announce the 2017 Disability History Essay Contest in West Virginia! This contest is designed to provide you with an opportunity to showcase your writing skills, share what you have learned about the Disability Rights Movement, use your ability to form and express opinions, and perhaps to earn some money to help you into your future! All high school seniors are invited to submit an entry.

Contest rules are located on the bottom of the included entry form – be sure to read them carefully and follow ALL the rules.

All entries must include the completed entry form and must comply with all contest rules. Points will be deducted for any failure to follow the rules, including failure to use “people first language.” While federal law prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities, we still face barriers every day. The development of new technology has reduced or eliminated many barriers and people with disabilities are eager access it, when cost

is not a barrier. New and promising breakthroughs in technology, including robotics, continue to attack barriers in medical care, sports, indoor/outdoor recreation, mobility, and daily living. The essay topic this year is:

“How technology has removed barriers and improved the lives of people with disabilities.”

The top award will be presented to the state winner, and awards may be presented to first-place and second-place entries from six Districts of our state. The awards are as follows:

West Virginia Lions Youth Camps and Exchange Contest

Objectives:

To create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world. To encourage West Virginia youth to experience cultures of other countries.

Contest Criteria:

Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship

We are pleased to inform you that the online application for the Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship is now available at www.jackierobinson.org. The JRF application is the vehicle through which more than 4,000 talented young minority high school students apply to become JRF Scholars and carry on the civic-minded legacy of the Foundation’s namesake, Jackie Robinson.

Philippi Lions Club Student Scholarship Application

A $500 Scholarship is available for an accredited post-secondary program including Technical Schools or 2 -4 Year college program. Scholarship money will be awarded at the end of the first semester of successful achievement in a post-secondary program. Provides an approximately $1,700 scholarship for a graduating senior from a high school in Barbour, Randolph or Tucker county, who is pursuing a degree in the large animal farming industry or veterinary medicine at a college, university, technical or trade school. The applicant must have a 2.5 GPA or higher. Special consideration will be given to those students participating in 4H or FFA programs in Barbour, Randolph or Tucker County. Hello! Thank you for allowing us to share our scholarship information with you! The 2018 program is now up and running and the details are below!The 2018 ScholarshipFor 5 years, every time we've raised the bar for our scholarship, students have surpassed it! So, this year we're upping the challenge once again. To demonstrate our continued belief in students' phenomenal ability to use their learning to better the world around them, we created the:HonorsGradU Design a Better Future $10,000 ScholarshipThe GIST:Whether through essays or multimedia, students have used their voices to share visions for a better world. So, here's their chance to put them to action! We're asking high school seniors to submit a proposal for how they'll better their communities. Because this will be a much more rigorous process with multiple rounds, we're also raising the bar for tuition awards: from five $1,000 tuition awards to five $10,000 tuition awards! We will also fund the top project up to $5,000.

move on to round 2.◦ Deadline: April 8, 2018, 11:59 MST2 Design and submit your ROUND 2 artifact:◦ Next 3 phases of design thinking launch cycle (all but the final launch)◦ Students submit an artifact representing their progress and learning◦ We give additional feedback◦ Deadline: April 15, 2018, 11:59 MST3 Design and submit your ROUND 3 reflection:◦ LAUNCH phase of design thinking launch cycle.◦ Students submit a final reflection that shares how their project is doing one of the following: 1) increasing

Senior living in Barbour County for at least four years prior to the date of the award, seeking 2-4 year, training beyond high school in a medical related field.
