    2DAADScholarshipsfortheDocMASEDoctoralProgrammeattheSaarland

    UniversityinGermany

    TheJointEuropeanDoctoralProgrammeinAdvancedMaterialsScienceandEngineering(DocMASE)is

    aninternationalprogramwiththeparticipationofuniversitiesinGermany,France,Spain,andSweden

    andsupportedbytheErasmusMundusprogramoftheEuropeancommission.TheDAADwillprovide

    withinitsprogrammeGraduateSchoolScholarshipProgramme(GSSP)twofullypaidPhDscholarshipsforstartingdoctoralthesisworkattheSaarlandUniversityinGermanyfromApril2015.

    SaarlandUniversity is one ofGermanymost internationalUniversities and is located in the vibrant

    region at the German/French border close to Luxemburg. TheMaterials Science and Engineering

    Department (MSE) of SaarlandUniversity is recognised as one of the leading centres ofmaterials

    sciencein

    Germany.

    The

    department

    is

    formed

    by

    11

    chairs

    covering

    the

    wide

    spectrum

    of

    materials

    science.Scientific researchat theuniversity isparticularlyenhancedby intensivecollaborationwith

    distinguished research centres established on the university campus, like theMaterial Engineering

    CentreSaar(MECS)andtheLeibnizInstituteforNewMaterials(INM).

    TwoPhDpositionsareopenforthefollowingresearchtopics:

    Metal/CarbonNanotubesComposites:Synthesisandcorrelationbetweenmicrostructureandproperties(Advisor:Prof.FrankMcklich,MECS).

    Nanostructured metal oxide/ metal nitride/ carbon compositesfor supercapacitors andcapacitivedeionization(Advisor:Prof.VolkerPresser,INM)

    DocMASE is aimed at candidateswith aMasters Degree (or equivalent) inMaterials Science and

    Engineering,orotherrelatedsubjectssuchasPhysicsorChemistry.VerygoodEnglishknowledge is

    required, German knowledge will be an advantage. Voluntary German courses are provided at

    SaarlandUniversityandtheINM.TheDAADscholarshipsareavailablefornonGermancandidatesthat

    havenot leavedmorethat15months inGermanyuntilthe30.08.2014andwhohavetakenthe last

    finalexaminthepastsixyear.TheDAADfunding isforuptothreeor(inthecaseofdevelopingand

    emergingcountries)

    for

    up

    to

    four

    years

    and

    will

    cover:

    amonthlyscholarshiprateofcurrently1000, acountrydependenttravelallowance, acombinedhealth,accident,andliabilityinsurance, ifnecessary,arentsubsidyandfamilyallowance.
