- Follow up re Lack of Childcare services in Gunnedah. Carolyn Leys and meeting with Keith
Bryant when he is here next on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th February?
It has become apparent that due to current pressures in inadequate provision of Childcare services
many 5 and 6 year old children are not ready when they enter school. Every Gunnedah Child wishes

Motion: The Chamber of Commerce will meet with Keith Bryant on Thursday 23rd February 2017
on an alternative date for their monthly committee meeting to discuss the issues relating to lack of
childcare facilities in Gunnedah and what solutions he can propose. The membership will be
notified of this meeting and invited to attend. Thibault/White. CARRIED.

GIFT CARD REPORT
8 new Businesses have come on as redeemers of the Gunnedah Gift Card
Why leave town has sent us more cards to restock load up stores with current cards. Alysha to
collect all out of date cards from load up stores.
The numbers of gifts cards each upload store has in their store will need to be accounted for so that
we have an idea of how many cards are being used and when they need to be restocked.
8 new businesses have come on board as a result of the Shop Gunnedah Promotion
- Sponsorship funding group (Mike Broekman) – NIL report. Will be added to the January
agenda.
- Tourism subcommittee (Treena Daniells) – No decision has been made yet on the funding
application Chamber submitted. Will be added to the January agenda.
- “Try a Trade” (Alysha/Michael) – No date confirmed yet but will be held towards the end of
first term and centred around Youth Week. Thursday 6th April proposed as the most likely
day.
- Gunnedah Open for Business (New Chairperson required). NIL Report. Will be added to
January agenda.
- Business Partner Program (Michael and Treena) – Ticking along nicely with Council. The
suggestions that Chamber proposed to Council were well accepted with a draft to be
forthcoming by Councils Andrew John. Meetings will reconvene January but thoughts were
that more than $15,000 required to make it attractive and worthwhile to businesses.

Spirit of Christmas Fair – 29 Businesses have stalls or events
- Profit - $520
- Most participating stalls are Not for Profit
The process has been streamlined greatly this year thanks to the efforts contributed to last years
event.
- Business Workshops (Treena)
Feedback from the 6 registrations who participated in the workshops has been very positive. The
overheads were very low thanks to provision of a projector and screen from Gunnedah Rotary and
the BEC only charging $10/head to attend. Overall a profit of $738 was reached and Treena Daniells
stressed how important it is that the Chamber continue the workshops for businesses in 2017
Motion: That the reports be accepted. Daniells/Sardinha. CARRIED.
General Business
- Tourism Event – March 2017. The 4th of the Chambers major calendar of events. Any word
on the funding we applied for? Will be added to the January agenda for further discussion.
- Administrative role going forward with Alysha relocating early January.
Possibility that Alysha can continue in the role working remotely for the majority of the
administration work with a contact in Gunnedah to facilitate any tasks that require face to face
contact. The committee is willing to discuss this option further at their January meeting and it was
added that the Chambers financial situation would need to be considered before advertising the
position externally if that was the direction they wished to take.
- Appointment of Treena as Tax/BAS agent to allow completion of Annual BAS
Statement and deregistration for GST.
Treasurer Jim Farquhar has experienced ongoing issues with the ATO who have been reluctant
to provide necessary information to get the BAS completed. As an accountant Treena can
complete the necessary paperwork required.
Motion: That Treena Daniells as a Tax/BAS agent complete the necessary due diligence
required by the ATO in relation to completion of the annual BAS. Marsh/White. CARRIED.
Other General Business
EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING Report – Stacey Thibault
Held on the 24th November 2016 discussions centred around the following topics;
1. Parking Time Restrictions – Andrew Johns confirmed that parking contractors had been
employed by Council 3 or 4 times / year in the past but they acknowledged that this would
need to increase in order to manage main street parking fairly. An email will be sent to the
Chamber membership reminding them not to park out the front of their shops which should
be available for customers.
2. Try a Trade – A new date is yet to be determined but Council has asked Chamber to write a
proposal to them so that they can advertise the details of the event through their intranet,
Facebook and the paper. The Council will have a tent at the event with some of their existing
trainees with information on scholarships available. They will organise the Mayor or another
councillor to open the event and have offered the Kelvin Hall to the Chamber for a small
donation.
3. Export Sub-committee – George Hoddle has been appointed to head the committee with
other committee members getting involved. Further developments expected in the New
Year.
4. Council will employ a Business Development Officer in 2017
5. It was raised that there was need of a multilingual representative on council
6. Discussion that the Chambers membership list should be divided into business categories.
This will be provided to Council by the Chamber
7. Street Art – Pressure on council to invest in street art to help beautify Gunnedah’s
streetscape. A strategic plan will be required
8. Overseas visits – selected businesses to travel to China, Japan and Indonesia and part of a
program to develop export relationships between the countries and our region. Council to
organise support for this. Information regarding these trips will be disseminated to our
membership particularly in relation to tax incentives for free trade with China and examples
of those local businesses already taking advantage of trade with these countries.
9. Debra Hilton has been offered by council as a support person for the Spirit of Christmas fair
and has done an amazing job. We thank her for all her work.
10. Council are willing to consider investing in decorations for the main street for next year. The
cost is approximately $60,000 so will be a project carried over a few years.
Upcoming Events
- Spirit of Christmas Fair – Thursday, 15th December (Volunteers needed)
It was discussed it probably prudent that we request assistance from Council for next years fair in
