EElizabeth’s column is a hard act to follow! If you haven’t gotten to page 130 yet and you are going to Kentucky be sure to read her great reviews of places to go and things to do. Being this is the last thing I do in the magazine, I am sometimes cross eyed and hungry by the time I get here. Today this is my state!

However I am happy to be in this state, what an AWESOME National issue this is. Thank you to all the great features, with great stories to tell. I love read-ing about how people started out in dogs and particularly Dobermans. Thank you to all the great advertisers. Your support of your handlers and breeders is

appreciated by them and us.

Rod Humphries Writes, is a reprint which I’m sure not many of you have read. He’s a great writer and I miss having his occasional contri-butions. And Marj Brooks, our history buff, has brought a great story of the breeding program of the Browns.

I was very saddened to hear of Agador’s passing. He was a great dog and a great ambas-sador for the breed. Linda’s story of his life is very touching. Our condolences to the friends and family of Cheryl Gates and her beloved Dober-mans, what a tragedy. And to Steve and Holly Schorr on the loss of their son. Life is so short and can be gone in an instant, makes it all the more important to live it full and good.

I used to love to watch Agador do tricks in the ring with Linda. He had such a fun personality. I wanted a puppy out of him so badly…

When John and Lori bred the litter that produced Bravo they hoped he would be a special. I guess I should feel guilty about how happy I was when he had a “flaw” and could not be shown in conformation! I had played with him since birth and loved his drive. Now that I’m semi-retired, I will have time to train and compete with him. Agador was a love of mine, and I am so happy and proud to have a part of him.

Linda,Bob and I express our deepest sympathy to you. We know that there is a big hole in your heart that is bleeding tears. Having had our own losses, we know the deep emotional pain you are in. We are, however, both so thankful for the memories of Agador. If the memories had not been so wonderful, we would not have had the tears. The memories are the best, and we dearly hold onto them!

Q What are your future goals?

Just what all old handlers do — Judge! I still have a lot of things I want to do: go on a food and wine tour with the girlfriends (you know who you are) become a great cook, garden, watch my children flourish and have grand chil-dren, golf in Ireland, retire from Procter and Gamble, spend

more time with my dear friends in Southern California antique shopping.

Q Any suggestions or for novice handlers?

If you want to become a handler, work for one. It is not about the win today, it is the knowledge for your future. Conduct yourself with grace and dignity. Never leave a show without talking to someone who can teach you about the sport, its heritage, your breed, and other breeds. Make your heroes those who have stomped the path for your breed’s future.

The National issue has been an exciting one to work on with so many advertisers. We have the top twenty register covering conformation, obedi-ence and agility. Personally I know Lisa and Marj, who have handled my Dobermans for me. Marj handled Darby back in 1983 at the San Diego National and Lisa just finished Benson in January at the Palm Springs shows. You will enjoy their articles, which will give you a picture of their start in Dobermans, becoming breeders and then on to han-dling. You will see by the many support ads that their clients truly appreciate their mentoring and handling expertise. We have some young handlers just get-

With sadness owner Kim Somjen lost OohRah on 7/16/12. He was her first CD, CDX and UD dog – a dog that worked in many venues. With surprise and shock it was report on the after-noon of 9/3/12 that Cheryl Gates from Norco, CA had lost her life in a house fire along with her three dogs. Her hus-

band, Gary, had been treated for burns he received. What a horrible tragedy and so unexpected with much sadness. I meet Cheryl at the Palm Springs shows this last January. My thoughts are with the Gates family over their loss. It sure makes you think about life and how fast it can change!

DPI stands for dots per inch, which indicates the res-olution of images. A dot is a single point, the smallest identifiable part of an image. Printers and monitors, for example, create characters and images by printing patterns of dots. The more dots per inch, the higher the resolution. The industry standard for photos in print advertising is 300 dots per inch. At this resolution the dots in the photos are just small enough that they are barely detectable with the naked eye.

Industry standard for the web is from 72 to 90 dots per inch. In print at this resolution, the dots are clearly visible. In this case the imagine is said to be pixelated. Pixelated, describes an image in which individual pixels are apparent to the naked eye.

When you “do the math” it becomes clear in images with 300 dots per square inch, the dots will be smaller and

more condensed than images with 72 dots per inch. These smaller, more compact dots give us an image with more “information” per inch. We then come to the answer of why we cannot pull photos from your web site.

Compare the photos below. The high resolution, 300 dpi. photo gives us more detail and clarity. Whereas the 72 dpi photo lacks quality and is pixelated.

The quality of your advertisements and the articles we bring to you is very important to us. We want you to be happy with the product we deliver to your mailbox. At times, it may seem that we are “difficult” when it comes to image quality, but the reality is we are very picky for a reason – YOU!
