Old Business:

1. Members present discussed to proposal to purchase obedience and rally equipment for the club. Paula has agreed to store the equipment. The cost would be $775.00 plus shipping. It was moved by Deb Hoffner and seconded by Ellen that the club approve this purchase. Motion was approved. Kathy Koran will send the order information to Ellen, and Ellen will do the ordering.

MHDPC Performance Challenge

The purpose of the performance challenge is to encourage members to train and engage their Doberman both in mental and physical challenges. While the club and its members recognize the importance of breeding to the standard and competing in the conformation ring, not all members’ dogs are suitable for the breed ring because they do not conform to the standard, they are not the type that is currently successful in the ring, or they have been altered. All Dobermans, both conformation dogs and non-conformation dogs, can be successful in performance events. Titles in

performance events give Doberman owners the motivation to train their dog. Trained and well-mannered dogs reflect positively on the Doberman breed specifically and on purebred dogs in general. MHDPC supports members spending time engaging their Doberman. Participating in performance events is one way to get people engaged with their Dobermans, create a stronger bond with their Dobermans, give their Dobermans a job, and have well-mannered Dobermans visible in the community. Having the public see these dogs engaging in activities that highlight their athleticism, intelligence, sense of humor, and temperament, helps change the perception that the Doberman is an aggressive dog.

The performance challenge includes all Q’s and titles earned Jan. 1 – Dec. 31, 2016. You may submit your entries at

All points for Qs and titles will be doubled when earned at a MHDPC event. Points apply to multiples of the same title, i.e. RAE2 would earn 20 points, MACH 2 would earn

50 points. Every 10 points earns a raffle ticket. Several prizes will be awarded through the raffle. Items will be desirable and may include: dinner for 2, gift card, hand tooled leather and jewel dog collar, etc. Every Champion title, including breed champions, will earn a ticket for a champion only raffle. To fulfill this purpose, the Challenge will accept qualifying Q’s and titles from the following venues. Accepted venues are not limited to the following list. AKC, USDAA, NADAC, UKI, UKC, CKC, NACSW (North American Canine Scent Work), DMWYD (Do More With Your Dog – Tricks), CFF (Canine Freestyle Federation), MDSA (Musical Dog Sport Association), Rally FrEe, NADD (North American Diving Dogs), NAFA (North American Flyball Association). Input is welcome for any MHDPC member whose dog has earned a title from a venue that has not been listed.

MHDPC Hall of Fame

All MHDPC member’s dogs that have earned titles previous to 2016 and are no longer competing will be entered in their own drawing. The club acknowledges with pride that some very special dogs that no longer compete were the driving force behind the rising Doberman entries in agility, obedience, and other disciplines. It was a MHDPC member who handled the first Doberman to earn a UDX. It was a MHDPC member who handled the first Doberman to earn a MACH. It was a MHDPC member who handled the youngest

Doberman ever to earn an obedience title. It was a MHDPC member who handled the most AKC titled Doberman in multiple disciplines. Multiple MHDPC members were Top Twenty winners at DPCA National Specialties. Several more members were Top Twenty participants. All these dogs and their handlers are still talked about with admiration in the performance community. In addition to the drawing, these dogs will be featured on a web page allowing the public the opportunity to see the growth of Dobermans in performance disciplines. Please submit your dog’s photo along with the titles earned at http://mthooddpc.org/hof

Contact Kathy Koren or Paula Ratoza if you have any questions.

The existing Facebook page allows us to communicate and educate the public about our club and breed. Meeting reminders, MHDPC premiums and other club related information is shared. Anyone with a Facebook account can access and like this page found at https://www.facebook.com/mthooddpc/

A new Facebook group has been created. MHDPC Members and Friends is a private group where members can share Doberman related information, show and trial info, pics, cute stories and accomplishments. If you did not receive an invitation to this group, type MHDPC Members and Friends into Facebook search and request to be added to the group.

HOLTERMONITOR

Mt. Hood DPC has a Holter Monitor that is available to MHDPC members only formember’s own dogs.

What is a Holter Monitor? A Holter monitor is a mobile EKG machine that reports acontinual EKG for 24 hours. The Holter records its results on a tape which is sent off to aservice (Alba Medical for $30.00) who converts the information to a report. The reportcan be emailed to you and printed out. Dr. Kathyryn Atkinson is available to read thatreport for a fee. It can be emailed or faxed to her or you can bring it to the health dayclinic.

The test is easy, painless and inexpensive. MHDPC is very lucky to have it available to us.

Our own Licensed Veterinary Technician is available to hook up and remove themonitor and vest. Owner should plan to holter their dog when they are available tomonitor the dog for a full 24 hours.

Holter tape kit: $5

Holter report by Alba: $30

Recommendations: It is recommended that all Dobermans over the age of two haveannual holter testing. Early detection of premature ventricular beats can ADD YEARS tothe life of YOUR DOG. Finding this disease in its earliest forms is the key here. Thedog’s birthday month works well by reminding the owner to do it each year. A clearholter report one year does not release the owner from future testings. These reports canand do change. With Doberman heart disease we need to test annually.

Contact Dawn Danner, @ [email protected], for holter availability

Results are confidential and provided to owner only.
