Do You Hear What I Hear?

A program for the public, hearing technology professionals, Faith Community Nurses, facility managers, and anyone interested in learning about and experiencing hearing loop technology. What: A two hour interactive experience

When: Saturday March 3, 2018 Where: Messiah Church 17805 County Road 6 Plymouth, MN MessiahChurch.org 763-4736968

Celebrating Our First Year with the Hearing Loop Many of our members travel. They would often return enthusiastically describing a hearing system they used that was different and better than what Messiah had. So, our research to improve hearing accessibility began. It led us to the user-friendly, universal, and user preferred (but relatively unknown) hearing loop system. Loops broadcast sound wirelessly to hearing devices with telecoils such as hearing aids and cochlear implants. We found that when we say Messiah now has a loop, the response is often, “Great. You can hear the sermon.” But, it’s so much more. Messiah live streams our services every week over the internet. That means all parts of the service are broadcast: speech, videos, and music. All of it. And, “all of it” is what is delivered via the loop to hearing aid users in the sanctuary. Suddenly they are fully involved in worship again.

Experience the Loop

Join us Saturday, March 3rd at 1:00 pm to experience the loop. We’ll have “loop listeners” to share for those who don’t use hearing aids.

Dr. Juliëtte Sterkens Dr. Sterkens, audiologist and nationally known speaker with the Hearing Loss Association of America, will present on hearing loss, hearing assistance, and current relevant legislation. She will explain how loops benefit both hearing aid users and the venues that install them. You’ll experience a variety of voices, music, and multi-media over the loop.

Information Fair

After the presentation, we invite you to join us for refreshments and have your questions addressed by professionals. A number of organizations will be on-hand to share information on the many services, venues, and hearing assistance technologies available to hearing aid users.

Questions for Your Hearing Professional

If you’re planning to attend and use hearing aids, here are some questions to ask your hearing professional to get the most from our program: •  Do my hearing aids have a t-coil? •  If not, can one be added? •  Is my t-coil activated/enabled? •  How do I use my t-coil?

Messiah Church traces its history back to 1868. We are a vibrant and growing church, and a significant percentage of our congregation is over 60. The National Institute on Deafness reports that 20% of the US population between 65 and 74 have disabling hearing loss; and that number jumps to 50% for those 75 and over. That’s not a hearing loss that’s just inconvenient—it's isolating and can have far-reaching health consequences. And, hearing loss affects all ages. Today, one in five people over age 12 are affected.
