COMMUNION: it’s about Love…

Jesus was speaking to the disciples; and he took bread, gave thanks and broke it,

and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; Do this in remembrance of me.” Luke 22:19

The wine & the bread are symbols:

Wine: symbolic of the blood of Jesus Christ

o ALSO: the Holy Spirit is the new wine

Bread: symbolic of the body of Jesus Christ

o ALSO: Jesus is the bread of life

For the life of the flesh (or creation) is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon

the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul. Leviticus 17:11

Do this in remembrance of me… In memory of me, a memorial

What’s a MEMORIAL?

A statue or maybe an ornate fountain, a significant day or place

Memorial of 12 stones-signifying the 12 Tribes of Israel, Joshua 4

They built a lot of altars in the OT as memorials of what God did and named

those altars/places after who He is (His character)

o Lord of the Breakthrough (Baal Perazim) 1Chron. 14:11

o The-LORD -is-my-Banner, Exodus 17:15

o Altar of witness- Joshua 22:26-28

o Altar of Incense-Jesus is our mediator, interceding for us, Ex. 30:1

~ Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that it’s all about Him ~

Jesus stretched out His arms, open wide (like we’d get ready to give a big LOVE hug) and laid His life down for us.

“I know in my own life; during communion time in the past, my thoughts would go to my guilty conscience and sins I committed during that months period of time. All I could think about was getting cleansed from these guilty thoughts so I could be free from them. It was ALL about me. I didn’t really even think about Jesus and the price he paid or that I could live life abundantly and I could have a pure conscience. I was consumed with these thoughts of myself and my issues.” So, now, it’s a new time and as I partake of the bread & wine, I remember Jesus and receive with thankfulness the finished work on the cross. Making a memorial in that moment, remembering the way to life… the Great I AM!

Do this in remembrance of me…

Who? JESUS

Christ (Greek) anointed one

Messiah (Hebrew) anointed one

Our Bridegroom-our Beloved, the lover of our soul

Rock- a solid rock upon which we stand

The Way, the Truth and the Life-there is no other way, Jesus is the only way

Lamb of God-He gave His life for us, without blemish or defect

Emmanuel-God with us, he Never will leave us

I AM-in John 8, Jesus said: before Abraham was, I AM “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood;

you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal

life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is true food and my blood is, true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in

him.” John 6:53-56

As we commune with the LORD we identify with His sufferings, we each have our own cross to bear. There will come, a death, and as a result of our remembering Him and who He is… a death to the things of the flesh will happen and continue to die but, only as we make memorials to remember the Giver of Life. Fellowship of

sufferings…Philippians 3:10

As we follow the leadings of the Spirit of Life, the Holy Spirit, abundant life is our portion. We remember the price paid, we remember Jesus the anointed one (Jesus Messiah) and what He has done. We’ll live in Him and have our being.

Let’s Pray…

LORD we come to you in thanksgiving and with a grateful heart. You alone are

worthy of all our praise. We adore you and know you as the “Lover of our Soul”. LORD we make a memorial right now at this present moment and declare that it’s

no longer about us but it’s all about you. Your atonement is a complete work in us

and we speak it over our life now. We are walking in abundant life, the newness

and wholeness of LIFE everlasting. Thank you Jesus Messiah, you made the way, you are “The Way”.

Hallelujah!

Amen and Amen
