• Teacher should use to– Show fun videos– Show/share
educational videos– Give their students
good things to watch!
Part 1
Creating your accountDisclaimer.“We are not experts, but play them at conferences…”We are explorers and readers. We click on things and read the options!
Your best bet for help is….YouTube. At the bottom of the page is a help section!
Create your account
• Go to YouTube.com click on “Create Account”
• Your “Username” will become your URL.
• Be careful what you chose. Is your channel a classroom, school, or personal…? Be generic, since you can add playlists!
Account Settings• Click on your user
name button, and chose “Account”. We’ll get to the others later…
• It is all pretty easy. Click all the options and check out what you can do.
• We will go through most of it with you.
Overview• The basics. Plus it is where you upload a logo. Go
ahead and try it for now. Pick any picture and change it later.
Profile Setup• Click the drop downs next
to the sections and don’t forget to save your changes!
• Don’t use too much information about YOU.
• It’s pretty straightforward. Click all the options and check out what you can do… play later!
E-mail Options• For sure check
them! We want to know if anyone uses the site!
• You can always uncheck them if you get too many messages.
Privacy• Your page will have ads. You may as well decide
which ones! We are not sure if this is per computer or per YouTube page!
After you click here, click on the + signs to see sub-categories. Chose your categories!
As an educator we don’t want any unsolicited videos. We don’t have (or want) any friends anyway! Make your own decision. Yes, you can change it later!
Friends clarification
• “Friends”. Remember this is a social networking site. If you add a friend you will add a link to their page and you have NO Control over what is said on their page.
• If there is inappropriate content there and you put a link to it….? Your decision…
Activity Sharing• At this point NO is our suggestion. I don’t want
anyone to know how often I am on the site! Facebook /Twitter? Why? Your decision. (“No” for us.)
• For now don’t do it.
Yahoo

What do you want your viewers to see?

advanced options” and put in your own details.
Don’t be afraid to play with the colors. You can always change it back.

uncheck if needed!)• Make sure that you always click “Save Changes” when you are
done.

• A little harder but still a no brainer! Pick some choices.
• These are the things your viewers will see.

You will notice that a lot of videos may not seem “Educational”. Yes, ANYONE can add videos here.
Do the same search as you just did. Compare your videos. Are they the same?

for something!)• Select “Channels” or “Education”. It will limit your
results to “education channels for art appreciation.
SubscriptionsSubscriptions are a direct link to another channel.Subscribe to the “channels” you want content from. It is an easy way to get content links.
Subscriptions will take viewers away from your channel.
Click the subscribe button. It could be just about anywhere on the page depending on what template they are using!
Some channels will have “sub-channels”, and you can link to them and subscribe. Ex. Discovery Channel!
Make sure you subscribe to appropriate channels.
SubscriptionsIf you find a channel you would like to subscribe to, go ahead.
You can also Unsubscribe from any channel subscriptions.
Subscriptions are a great way to direct students to channels they wouldn’t usually find.
Part 4
Creating (and uploading)your own videos
Part 4
Creating your own videosSorry but this is not a “creating a video” lesson!
Be very aware that many current video software has a direct upload to “your youtube channel”. Some even directly from digital cameras and phones!
Oh, its gets even better and easier if you have a web cam on your computer…
Uploading your Own
Click on the yellow Upload ButtonThen click Upload Video and Browse for a video from your hard drive.
• Check out the record from Webcam button too! OMG – easy!
Uploading your Own
• Once it is uploaded there are still many many options. Too many to show here. We did find that many of them are quite simple to use.
You DO NOT have to change any of these but be aware that you CAN!
Uploading your Own
We are not going to have time to get into each of these but play around with them sometime and see how
powerful and easy YouTube can be.
Congratulations!
