While China was one of the oldest countries they still had many

problems.As nationalism was on the rise. China wanted to catch up and

modernize.

• 1921 Sun Yixian started Nationalist party in South China. Eventually taken over by Jiang Jieshi. (opposing communism)

• 1926 JJ marched into North China and executes communists.
