IMPERIALISM When a stronger country (mother country)
conquers and controls a weaker country (colony).
Causes of Imperialism1. Industrial nations wanted new places to
get raw materials/natural resources.2. Nations also wanted to sell
manufactured goods to new markets3. Colonies gave nations a chance to
have powerful military bases all over the world
4. White Man’s Burden: Europeans though they should civilize and Christianize people in Africa and Asia

• The Scramble for Africa: As Europe was industrializing Africa was experiencing internal strife and was not industrializing. Europe’s need for natural resources and markets took advantage of this and colonized the continent.
• The Berlin Conference: To avoid conflict Europeans and divided up the African Continent with no regard for the people of Africa.
