Journals – What are they Good for?

1) Journals will serve as a place for less-structured writing assignments.

2) Most of your homework will be written in the journal.

3) They will be graded two times a marking period (1/2 way through and at the end).

TODAY’S CLASS

1) Practice the Workshop Model

Background: Developed in Iowa State over 75 years ago, the method helps writers gain insight into their writing.

What is the Iowa Workshop Model?

• It consists of 4-6 group members who review and give advice to one or two writers’ pieces.

• Each person takes a turn giving feedback to the writer.

• At the end of the session/class, the writer collects written feedback from all the group members.
