superiors, past branch managers and departmental heads at controlling offices

• Acquaint with1. the profile of the staff 2. Past and latest audit report about the branch 3. to know about the past performance of the branch

where he is going to take charge

Introduction • Once some bank officers become branch managers and they

keep on performing well, they are kept on being appointed as branch managers of different branches from time to time

• Bank officers, working in the Retail Banking segment of the bank, in general, look forward to such appointments as Branch

• Becoming a Manager is a stepping-stone towards development of one’s career path in the bank.

• They also feel happy at the confidence reposed by the bank. • The bit nervousness is because of the challenges set before

the new incumbent.

Reactions on Appointment

• Appointing as Branch Manager of good and potential branch is the happiest moment in the carrier of branch manager

• Worries about :1. past poor industrial relations 2. bad loans 3. location of the centre, 4. rail road communication5. infrastructural facilities like medical, schooling for children, 6. language and culture of the place7. own personal problem • Nervousness leads to diffidence. • Certain posting do favour the liking and choice of the appointment

Development of Proper Frame of Mind

• Branch Manager should take their assignment as a challenge.

• Should make up their mind to face the situation in a positive spirit.

• accept a job as a challenge • Many problem situations faced by present day

Branch Managers in their day-to-day work, can be successfully dealt with by developing the habit of taking every problem situation as a management challenge and going about it in that manner.

Understanding the Role Functions

• Role clarity • Guide their fellow officers about their role functions• Normally, Bank officers are not fully aware of the job

role of a bank officer in today's retail branch banking scenario

• They are not suitably trained nor are told about it• Understand duties and functional responsibilities• Organize and implement their departmental/ sectional

activities

Inter-face with Zonal Managers; Meeting past branch managers

• Thanking Appointing Authority• Personal letter of thanks to the appointing authority

followed by immediate higher authority• Call to Controlling Office• To know more and more about the expectations of

their higher-ups and how they view the branches under their control

• The appointment may be sought while addressing the letter of thanks.

• Earn the grudging admiration• Mutual respect for each other.

problems, remedial actions taken by them and the fall out thereafter

• Visiting and Discussing with each Department at Controlling Office

• Time should also be taken out to visit each and every department at the controlling offices and to know their views about the branch.

• To know recalcitrant staff member- This information will immensely help in tackling such staff members at the branch

inspection reports of the branch• Deeper study of the staff profile and time spent at the

HR Department at the Controlling Office will make the Branch Managers job easy in developing their own plan

• The audit and inspection report will bring entire spectrum of branch functioning in all its dimensions.

• Detailed notes on the salient points may be prepared. This will help in setting out their priorities

• A, B, C analysis of the branch for preparation of blue - print of the action plan.
