RAID, short or Redundant Array o Independent Disks, is a combination o two or more disks with the aim o providing

ault tolerance and improving perormance. There are several dierent levels o RAID, with each one providing a dierentmethod o sharing or distributing data among the drives.

RAID 0 RAID 0 provides data striping, which spreadsout blocks o data over all drives, but does notprovide data redundancy.

Although perormance is improved, the lacko ault tolerance means that i one drive ails, all data in the array will be lost.

RAID 1 RAID 1 provides mirroringover multiple disks, withthe same read/write speed o a single disk. A RAID1 array can only be as large as its smallest memberdisk.

Because the data is stored on multiple disks,RAID 1 provides ault tolerance and protection, inaddition to perormance advantages.

Copyright (C) 1989, 1991 Free Sotware Foundation, Inc.,51 Franklin Street, Fith Floor, Boston, MA 02110-1301 USA

Everyone is permitted to copy and distribute verbatim copies o this license document, but changing it is not allowed.

    Preamble

The licenses or most sotware are designed to take away your reedom to share and change it. By contrast, the GNU General PublicLicense is intended to guarantee your reedom to share and change ree sotware--to make sure the sotware is ree or all its users. ThisGeneral Public License applies to most o the Free Sotware Foundations sotware and to any other program whose authors commit tousing it. (Some other Free Sotware Foundation sotware is covered by the GNU Lesser General Public License instead.) You can applyit to your programs, too.

When we speak o ree sotware, we are reerring to reedom, not price. Our General Public Licenses are designed to make sure that youhave the reedom to distribute copies o ree sotware (and charge or this service i you wish), that you receive source code or can get iti you want it, that you can change the sotware or use pieces o it in new ree programs; and that you know you can do these things.

To protect your rights, we need to make restrictions that orbid anyone to deny you these rights or to ask you to surrender the rights. These restrictions translate to certain responsibilities or you i you distribute copies o the sotware, or i you modiy it.

For example, i you distribute copies o such a program, whether gratis or or a ee, you must give the recipients all the rights that you have. You must make sure that they, too, receive or can get the source code. And you must show them these terms so they know their rights.

We protect your rights with two steps:(1) copyright the sotware, and(2) oer you this license which gives you legal permission to copy, distribute and/or modiy the sotware.

Also, or each authors protection and ours, we want to make certain that everyone understands that there is no warranty or this reesotware. I the sotware is modied by someone else and passed on, we want its recipients to know that hat they have is not the original,so that any problems introduced by others will not refect on the original authors reputations.

Finally, any ree program is threatened constantly by sotware patents. We wish to avoid the danger that redistributors o a ree programwill individually obtain patent licenses, in eect making the program proprietary. To prevent this, we have made it clear that any patentmust be licensed or everyones ree use or not licensed at all.

The precise terms and conditions or copying, distribution and modication ollow.

    GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE

TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR COPYING, DISTRIBUTION AND MODIFICATION

    0. This License applies to any program or other work which contains a notice placed by the copyright holder saying it may bedistributed under the terms o this General Public License. The Program, below, reers to any such program or work, and a workbased on the Program means either the Program or any derivative work under copyright law: that is to say, a work containing theProgram or a portion o it, either verbatim or with modications and/or translated into another language. (Hereinater, translationis included without limitation in the term modication.) Each licensee is addressed as you.

Activities other than copying, distribution and modication are not covered by this License; they are outside its scope. The act orunning the Program is not restricted, and the output rom the Program is covered only i its contents constitute a work based on

the Program (independent o having been made by running the Program).

Whether that is true depends on what the Program does.

    1. You may copy and distribute verbatim copies o the Programs source code as you receive it, in any medium, provided that youconspicuously and appropriately publish on each copy an appropriate copyright notice and disclaimer o warranty; keep intact allthe notices that reer to this License and to the absence o any warranty; and give any other recipients o the Program a copy othis License along with the Program.

You may charge a ee or the physical act o transerring a copy, and you may at your option oer warranty protection in exchange

    or a ee.

    2. You may modiy your copy or copies o the Program or any portion o it, thus orming a work based on the Program, and copy anddistribute such modications or work under the terms o Section 1 above, provided that you also meet all o these conditions:

    a) You must cause the modied les to carry prominent notices stating that you changed the les and the date o anychange.

    Appendix B - Warranty

    b) You must cause any work that you distribute or publish, that in whole or in part contains or is derived rom the Program

  • 7/29/2019 DNS-343 Manual Us

    77/86

    D-Link DNS-343 User Manual

    b) You must cause any work that you distribute or publish, that in whole or in part contains or is derived rom the Programor any part thereo, to be licensed as a whole at no charge to all third parties under the terms o this License.

    c) I the modied program normally reads commands interactively when run, you must cause it, when started runningor such interactive use in the most ordinary way, to print or display an announcement including an appropriatecopyright notice and a notice that there is no warranty (or else, saying that you provide a warranty) and that usersmay redistribute the program under these conditions, and telling the user how to view a copy o this License.

(Exception: i the Program itsel is interactive but does not normally print such an announcement, your work basedon the Program is not required to print an announcement.)

These requirements apply to the modied work as a whole. I identiable sections o that work are not derived rom the Program, and canbe reasonably considered independent and separate works in themselves, then this License, and its terms, do not apply to those sectionswhen you distribute them as separate works. But when you distribute the same sections as part o a whole which is a work based on theProgram, the distribution o the whole must be on the terms o this License, whose permissions or other licensees extend to the entirewhole, and thus to each and every part regardless o who wrote it.

Thus, it is not the intent o this section to claim rights or contest your rights to work written entirely by you; rather, the intent is to exercise

the right to control the distribution o derivative or collective works based on the Program.

In addition, mere aggregation o another work not based on the Program with the Program (or with a work based on the Program) on avolume o a storage or distribution medium does not bring the other work under the scope o this License.

    3. You may copy and distribute the Program (or a work based on it, under Section 2) in object code or executable orm under theterms o Sections 1 and 2 above provided that you also do one o the ollowing:

    a) Accompany it with the complete corresponding machine-readable source code, which must be distributed under theterms o Sections 1 and 2 above on a medium customarily used or sotware interchange; or,

    b) Accompany it with a written oer, valid or at least three years, to give any third party, or a charge no more than yourcost o physically perorming source distribution, a complete machine-readable copy o the corresponding sourcecode, to be distributed under the terms o Sections 1 and 2 above on a medium customarily used or sotwareinterchange; or,

    c) Accompany it with the inormation you received as to the oer to distribute corresponding source code. (Thisalternative is allowed only or noncommercial distribution and only i you received the program in object code orexecutable orm with such an oer, in accord with Subsection b above.)

    Appendix B - Warranty

The source code or a work means the preerred orm o the work or making modications to it. For an executable work, complete source

    78/86

    D-Link DNS-343 User Manual

The source code or a work means the preerred orm o the work or making modications to it. For an executable work, complete sourcecode means all the source code or all modules it contains, plus any associated interace denition les, plus the scripts used to controlcompilation and installation o the executable. However, as a special exception, the source code distributed need not include anything thatis normally distributed (in either source or binary orm) with the major components (compiler, kernel, and so on) o the operating systemon which the executable runs, unless that component itsel accompanies the executable.

I distribution o executable or object code is made by oering access to copy rom a designated place, then oering equivalent access to

copy the source code rom the same place counts as distribution o the source code, even though third parties are not compelled to copythe source along with the object code.

    4. You may not copy, modiy, sublicense, or distribute the Program except as expressly provided under this License. Any attemptotherwise to copy, modiy, sublicense or distribute the Program is void, and will automatically terminate your rights under thisLicense. However, parties who have received copies, or rights, rom you under this License will not have their licenses terminatedso long as such parties remain in ull compliance.

    5. You are not required to accept this License, since you have not signed it. However, nothing else grants you permission to modiyor distribute the Program or its derivative works. These actions are prohibited by law i you do not accept this License. Thereore,

by modiying or distributing the Program (or any work based on the Program), you indicate your acceptance o this License to doso, and all its terms and conditions or copying, distributing or modiying the Program or works based on it.

    6. Each time you redistribute the Program (or any work based on the Program), the recipient automatically receives a license romthe original licensor to copy, distribute or modiy the Program subject to these terms and conditions. You may not impose anyurther restrictions on the recipients exercise o the rights granted herein. You are not responsible or enorcing compliance bythird parties to this License.

    7. I, as a consequence o a court judgment or allegation o patent inringement or or any other reason (not limited to patentissues), conditions are imposed on you (whether by court order, agreement or otherwise) that contradict the conditions o this

License, they do not excuse you rom the conditions o this License. I you cannot distribute so as to satisy simultaneously yourobligations under this License and any other pertinent obligations, then as a consequence you may not distribute the Programat all. For example, i a patent license would not permit royalty-ree redistribution o the Program by all those who receive copiesdirectly or indirectly through you, then the only way you could satisy both it and this License would be to rerain entirely romdistribution o the Program.

I any portion o this section is held invalid or unenorceable under any particular circumstance, the balance o the section is intended toapply and the section as a whole is intended to apply in other circumstances.

    Appendix B - Warranty

p p y g y p p p y g y yclaims; this section has the sole purpose o protecting the integrity o the ree sotware distribution system, which is implemented bypublic license practices. Many people have made generous contributions to the wide range o sotware distributed through that system inreliance on consistent application o that system; it is up to the author/donor to decide i he or she is willing to distribute sotware throughany other system and a licensee cannot impose that choice.

This section is intended to make thoroughly clear what is believed to be a consequence o the rest o this License.

    8. I the distribution and/or use o the Program is restricted in certain countries either by patents or by copyrighted interaces, theoriginal copyright holder who places the Program under this License may add an explicit geographical distribution limitationexcluding those countries, so that distribution is permitted only in or among countries not thus excluded. In such case, thisLicense incorporates the limitation as i written in the body o this License.

    9. The Free Sotware Foundation may publish revised and/or new versions o the General Public License rom time to time. Suchnew versions will be similar in spirit to the present version, but may dier in detail to address new problems or concerns.

Each version is given a distinguishing version number. I the Program species a version number o this License which applies

to it and any later version, you have the option o ollowing the terms and conditions either o that version or o any later versionpublished by the Free Sotware Foundation. I the Program does not speciy a version number o this License, you may chooseany version ever published by the Free Sotware Foundation.

    10. I you wish to incorporate parts o the Program into other ree programs whose distribution conditions are dierent, write to theauthor to ask or permission. For sotware which is copyrighted by the Free Sotware Foundation, write to the Free SotwareFoundation; we sometimes make exceptions or this. Our decision will be guided by the two goals o preserving the ree statuso all derivatives o our ree sotware and o promoting the sharing and reuse o sotware generally.

    NO WARRANTY

    11. BECAUSE THE PROGRAM IS LICENSED FREE OF CHARGE, THERE IS NO WARRANTY FOR THE PROGRAM, TO THEEXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW.
