substitutedbyatomato,kiwi,apple)•  2tspDishdetergent•  ½Cupofwater•  2Clearcups(plasticorglass)•  1Coffeefilterorfinemeshstrainer•  1tspofsalt•  ½Cupofcoldrubbingalcohol(Putbottlein

freezerbeforeuse)•  Coffeestirrerorwoodenskewer•  Measuringspoons

Procedure1.  Takethepeeloffthebanana(oruse2strawberries).2.  Putthefruitintotheplasticbag.3.  Sealthebag.4.  Completelymashthefruitwithyourhands(thisbreaksopenthecellsand

releasestheDNA!).5.  Inacup,maketheDNAextractionliquid:

1.  Mixtogether2teaspoonsofdetergent,1teaspoonofsalt,and½cupofwater

6.  Add2teaspoonsoftheDNAextractionliquidintothebagwiththefruit.7.  Resealthebagandgentlysmash/mixforanotherminute(avoidmakingsoap

bubbles).8.  Placethecoffeefilter/strainerinsidetheothercup.9.  Openthebagandpourthecontentfromthebagintothefilter.10.  Gentlysqueezethefiltertolettheliquidseepthrough.11.  Next,pourdownthesideofthecupanequalamountofcoldrubbingalcohol

asthereisfruitliquidanddonotmixorstir.12.  Withinafewseconds,watchforthedevelopmentofawhitecloudy

substance(DNA)inthetoplayerabovethefruitextractlayer.13.  TiltthecupandpickuptheDNAusingaplasticcoffeestirrerorwooden

stick.14.  YouhavenowisolatedDNAfromfruit!
