NX CAD from Siemens –Model your idea.
All NX CAM packages contain the basic functions for machining 3D models.
An optional NX CAD / CAM package contains additional CAD functions for creating
models and drawings. The production engineer then has all the functions necessary
for the design of 3D cutting tools and devices. The advanced CAD functions in the
NX CAD / CAM package allow the designing of new 3D models in an absolutely
intuitive manner.
The NX CAM package contains such functions as surface extensions, tie-off and
feature suppression. With its patented Synchronous Modelling Technology, NX CAM
also provides the tools for machining and preparation of non-parametric, imported
3D models.

NX CAM from Siemens –Milling made easy.
NX CAM contains numerous functions for 2- and 3-axis machining of prismatic
parts as well as free-form parts. These functions extend from the manual genera-
tion of the tool path and its optimisation all the way to automated machining
methods. The successful high speed roughing in NX permits a high material
removal yet without causing too great a force on the tool or the work piece. High
speed milling (HSM) using the streamline function provides an optimised cutting
model that means perfect surfaces even under high feed rates. Simultaneous multi-
axis machining in NX means a company can produce precise and complex parts
in fewer steps and operations, thus lowering costs and shortening lead times.

NX CAM from Siemens –Turning made easy.
NX CAM contains a complete solution for turning – simple for easy application in
2-axis turning yet high-performance for programming complex geometries and
machining them on multi-spindle machines with several tool holders. For turning,
NX allows the use of either 2D profile or 3D volume. It contains strategies for rough-
ing, smoothing, slotting, thread cutting and drilling. Moreover, NX turning allows
A-and B-axis control.
Besides the numerous turning functions, the operator can make use of a special
“teaching mode”, which provides additional manual tool control for smoothing or
during special cutting operations. NX offers comprehensive machining functions for
the latest multi-function machines that support multi-axis machining. Updating the
raw piece during machining is decisive for effective turn / mill machining.

Post processor and VMDE interfaceThe NC programme and the 3D production data are exported into
DMG Virtual Machine via the certified post processor and the VMDE
interface, respectively. This prevents data re - dundancy.

DMG Virtual Machine –1 : 1 simulation for DMG machines.
DMG Virtual Machine is the key element of the DMG Process Chain – program-
ming and simulation software for GILDEMEISTER turning and milling machines.
The complete integration of the control, the 3D machine model and the machine
PLC allow this innovative software to provide 1 : 1 simulation. A virtual version of
the real machine is presented to the operator on the PC. The unique integration
of the PLC incorporates important operations into the simulation, such as tool and
pallet change – all true to the real thing. Complete collision detection and provi-
sion of verified per-piece times allows efficient testing of your NC programme.

Original ControlImplementation of the original control allows the operator /
programmer to virtually verify all production operations
beforehand. This allows an optimal review of the work
space, during which critical starting positions and reliable
home positioning strategies may be tested and ascertained.
Moreover, DMG Virtual Machine can also be used as an
external programming station.
DMG Control PanelDMG Virtual Machine allows every individual input
method. Input can take place via the operator control
panel identical to the control (optional), the virtual
DMG ControlPanel or the PC keyboard.

DMG Virtual Machine – 1 : 1 operation with the original machine control.
Like the real thing, DMG Virtual Machine is operated via the original control (Siemens
840D or Heidenhain iTNC 530). Thus, DMG Virtual Machine includes not only pro-
gramme creation and 1 : 1 simulation; control / jog mode and MDA areas are also
available. This integration allows the programmer and operator to virtually perform
nearly all relevant operations beforehand. These comprehensive functions allow the
perfect preparation of your employees on new DMG machines and controls, since
DMG Virtual Machine is perfectly suited for the latest training.

Verification of M functionsM functions are edited in the usual fashion and then reviewed in the simulation.
This leads not only to a very precise calculation of per-piece times and displays
potential process collisions that could not be verified until now. Make use of the

MDA, Jog Mode and Manual ControlThe integration of the MDA, jog mode and manual control operating areas
offers another practical advantage. The operator can manually move the slides
and test G and M commands beforehand – without using the machine’s costly
production time.
Work space ReviewJust like on the real machine, long tools can be changed to check critical
positions beforehand, allowing you to determine the optimal clamping situation
and tool selection.

DMG Virtual Machine –3D production made easy.
3D production data must be made available before the NC programme simulation.
Digital tools, clamping devices and blanks are all requirements for an authentic
simulation. DMG Virtual Machine contains various possibilities to design or import
3D production resources. Whether for simple geometries using an editor or com-
plex components using the integrated CAD application – DMG Virtual Machine
offers a solution for every requirement.

Integrated EditorDMG Virtual Machine offers a very convenient editor for quick definition of
standard geometries, such as simple tools and work pieces. You need only choose
the form and then geometries can be quickly and simply changed via defined
parameters.
SolidWorks OEMAn integrated SolidWorks OEM permits the user to create 3D data for the simula-
tion using a variety of procedures. Your own tool, clamping device and blank
geometries can be created from templates, modified for a specific task, para-
metrised and finally assembled. Besides 3D model import from all common CAD
formats, you can design your own geometries.

The DMG Virtual Machine –verification of the original NC programmes.
Checking the NC programme takes place similarly to the real machine: cycle start
and “off we go!” The programme selection comes from the PGM area (Heidenhain
530 iTNC) or the WKS directory (Siemens 840D). Every collision-relevant object is
completely monitored. The machine’s PLC and dynamics are taken into account to
get a nearly exact calculation of per-piece time. Like on a real DMG machine, the
virtual pendant stops during a programme interruption. That way, even different
re-entry procedures can be tested and optimised. It’s only by using a high-quality
1 : 1 simulation that NC programme errors can be eliminated, whether they come
from a CAM system after the post-processor run or directly from the original con-
trol integrated into DMG Virtual Machine.
Collision DetectionAny geometries subject to collision are monitored in the 1 : 1
simulation. That way, thanks to DMG Virtual Machine, crashes
occur on the PC, not on your DMG machine.
1 : 1 SimulationThe NC programme is loaded and initiated just like on the
real machine. Any error messages that can occur on the real
machine likewise appear via the virtual control.

Production with DMG machines – far ahead of the rest.
There is nothing left to do to realise your idea on a DMG machine. After verifica-
tion of the NC programme, the NC code is sent directly to the real machine. The
set-up process can already be optimised with the help of DMG Virtual Machine
and the tooling time of the real machine can be likewise substantially reduced.
As usual, you will finish your work piece projects by using the latest machine and
control technology on your DMG machine. However, with Siemens and DMG,
