Dance Fusion: Age 8-10 Curriculum Pam Simpson Combination Class for Ages 8-10 Styles: Tap & Jazz Duration: 45 minutes Why this class was developed: What is taught in this class: Dance Fusion Syllabus This class is 45 minutes in duration. The class structure is as follows: Jazz 20 minutes Change Shoes Tap 20 minutes Be sure to always incorporate the theme of the week into your lesson plans as well as schedule community time. For Recital: The class will do two recital dances. We will purchase 2 in 1 costumes to wear a leotard or biketard for both dances and add a piece and/or change accessories for each dance. During Recital choreography season, spend 15 minutes each week on their dances. Jazz: Some students in this class will be graduates of our Dance FUNDamentals program and will already have an understanding of the beginning jazz technique. It is always a great idea to review the basics for the first couple of weeks to get everyone in the class on the same page. Begin with some cardio to a fun, upbeat song. Use this song each week for several weeks, so they get used to it and look forward to it. Repetition is key at this stage. Do basic stretches to work hamstrings, calves, and ankles. Dance Fusion Syllabus

This class is 45 minutes in duration. The class structure is as follows:

Skills to work on throughout the year: Center: Focus on progress, not perfection! Passe (balance)Jazz Square, Three-Step Turn, Lindy Step Pirouette, Toe Touches, Leg Extensions Pas de bourree, Pivot Turns, Paddle Turns, Sautes Charleston, Sugar Foot, Kick Ball Change, Grapevine

Progression/Across The Floor: Jazz walks, Chasse, Chasse with pivot, add patterns Chaine Turns, Pique Turns Leaps- Chasse Step Leap Six Step-Work on timing and balancing passé on 7-8 and progress to pirouette

Combinations Always be teaching short, fun combinations to the class. Keep the class fast-paced and exciting.

Areas to focus on: Proper Placement, Flexibility, Stretched Feet and Legs Personality, Energy in movement Strong Arms, Precision Always work pirouettes: set up pirouette drills and do them every week. If you need suggestions for drills, please ask. We have several pirouette drills that work.

Tap: Center: One Sound Movement: Toe Tap, Heel Dig, Stomp, Stamp, Brush, Heel Drop Two Sound Movements: Step Heel, Heel Step, Brush Step, Shuffle, Hop Step, Tip Hop, Tip Jump, Ball Change Three Sound Movements: Shuffle Step, Step Ball Change, Flap Heel, Step Heel Heel, 3 pt. Riff, Drawbacks Four Sound Movements: Flap Ball Change, Flap Heel Heel, Perididle, 4 pt Riff, Shuffle Hop Step, Shuffle Ball Change, Shuffle Step Heel, Cramproll, Spank Step Heel Heel, Back Essence.

Time Steps: Single and Double

Across The Floor: -Flaps with different tempos, progress to running flaps, flap flap flap heel, flap heel heel-Step Heel in all directions, progress to step heel turns-Flap Ball Change front, side, back-Drawbacks, Buffalo-Pullbacks: Double pullbacks, single pullbacks

Combinations: Always teach short combinations in class throughout the year. Incorporate skills learned in class into combinations along with fun movements to keep students excited!

Areas to focus on: Timing, Precision, Tapping on balls of feet Personality, Energy in movement Strong arms, Shading, Dynamics

Always focus on teaching rhythm patterns and focus on proper technique. Incorporate arm movements with each class to get the students used to using their arms when they tap!

Always end class with "Homework." This is one of our keys to great retention and engagement.
