DLSU CULTURAL ARTS OFFICE DIRECTOR Glorife Samodio presented

a paper in the Federation for Asian Cultural Promotion (FACP)

Conference last September 6-9 in Solo, Indonesia.

In her presentation entitled “Breaking the Arts into the World of the

Renaissance Generation,” Samodio talked about arts marketing and

how it could stimulate audience engagement among young people.

She also shared about the role of the academe in developing

student artists.

Samodio is currently a governor of FACP in the Philippines, together

with CCP President Dr. Raul Sunico and FEU Executive Director

of the Presidential Committee on Culture and Arts Martin Lopez.

The FACP was established in 1981 to promote intra-Asian cultural

exchanges and to facilitate international touring of artists. It provides

a platform for its members to gather in an annual conference to

network, connect, exchange ideas, discuss issues concerning the

TO ENCOURAGE LASALLIAN MBA GRADUATES to become

program ambassadors in their respective companies, the DLSU

Office for Strategic Communications in cooperation with the

Strategic Management Alumni Association organized a whole

day seminar and gathering for MBA alumni and students.

The activity was held at the Manila Polo Club in Makati on

October 20 and featured a management frameworks workshop

by RVR-College of Business faculty Dr. Elfren Cruz. Industry

trailblazers and DLSU alumni Dante Ang (MBA ‘05) of the

Manila Times and Ernest Cu (BS IME’82) of Globe Telecom,

Inc. addressed participants with their take on the event theme:

“Lasallian MBA in a changing business landscape.”

Ang walked the audience through his 100-year-old

broadsheet’s journey to the digital age while keynote

speaker Cu shared his vision and values as a leader of a

telecommunications mammoth. The two referred to Lasallian

values learned in school and how these continue to guide and

set them apart from other business leaders.

The event was the second major gathering of MBA alumni

this year. The first, which happened last May, was held at the

Wilcon Builder’s head office in Libis, Quezon City.

DE LA SALLE UNIVERSITY ONCE AGAIN

showed its consistent performance in

licensure examinations, with its Accountancy

graduates registering a 100 percent passing

rate in the October 2012 Certified Public

Accountant board examinations. Only 4,772

out of 9,987 examinees, or 48.27 percent,

passed the test.

This is the 6th consecutive 100 percent

passing rate for DLSU. La Salle graduates

also posted 100 percent passing rates in

the May 2012, October 2011, May 2011,

October 2010, and May 2010 CPA board

exams.

This year’s conference, held in Dusit Thani Hotel, Makati last

October 4-5, carried the theme “Innovation and Appropriate

Technology for the Development and Inclusive Growth of Asian

SMEs.” CBRD Director Dr. Aida Licaros Velasco chaired the event.

The annual ASIALICS International Conference is held in different

countries to provide venue for the discussion on the latest

developments on Asian innovation systems and clusters, and to

explore possibilities of joint research and training in this field.

Over 60 scholars from 10 countries, including Japan, Korea,

Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Germany, India,

Estonia, and the Philippines, joined the event. Aside from

attending the seminar, they joined a trip to Gawad Kalinga’s

Enchanted Farm in Angat, Bulacan to witness its different social

enterprises.

The Ateneo Biology Cup 2012 was the

first Biology quiz contest organized

by the Ateneo Biological Organization

for undergraduate students taking up

Biology and other related fields in different

universities across Metro Manila.

The contest aimed to promote

camaraderie, academic excellence, and

healthy competition among its participants

as they engaged in an intensive intellectual

battle in the fields of Biomedical Sciences,

Ecology and Systematics, Microbiology,

Molecular Biology, and Biotechnology.

Twenty-four teams from 12 universities

joined the event. Another team from DLSU

composed of Louey Ilustre, Jessa Montejo

and Katrina Tinoco made it to the top 10.

Dr. Mary Jane Cruz-Flores and Laurenzo

Alba of the Biology Department and

Chemistry Department, respectively, joined

the participants as their advisers and

coaches.

A TEAM OF STUDENTS from the Integrated School of the De La Salle

University-Science and Technology Complex (DLSU-STC) bagged the

first place in the 2012 MTG-SM-SHARP Math Trail and Problem-Solving

Competition held in SM Calamba last October 6.

The DLSU-STC team was composed of Sebastian Morado (senior), Go

Woon Kim, Da Bin Park (juniors), and Martin Carlos Miranda (freshman),

with their coach, Bong Dejan. The team received Php20,000 in cash, gold

medals, and certificates. Meanwhile, De La Salle Lipa clinched the second

spot.

Joining the regional competition were 149 students from 35 schools, who

earlier emerged from the prequalifying round held on September 21-23, during

which 360 whiz kids from 90 schools in Region IV-A (CALABARZON) sought a

spot for the regional final round.

The competition was conducted by the Mathematics Trainers Guild (MTG), in cooperation

with Collins International Trading Corporation, dealer of Sharp calculators in the Philippines.
