1 Preface

1.1 Thank you for placing your trust in this devolo product.

The dLAN LiveCam from devolo lets you always haveyour home in sight – even when you're out andabout. Thanks to the integrated dLAN AV adapter,with dLAN technology from devolo, only a power ca-ble is required for the connection to integrate thedLAN LiveCam into your dLAN network flexibly andquickly via any power outlet in the house. Using thedirect Internet connection and the free devolo dLANCockpit App for smartphones and tablets, individualmonitoring is possible anywhere in the world.

To protect your data, simply and conveniently enablesecure 128-bit "AES (Advanced Encryption Stand-ard)" encryption on the dLAN LiveCam at the pushof a button.

1.1.1 About this manualAlong with a short introduction to the basics of the"dLAN" and a presentation of the devolodLAN Cockpit App and the dLAN LiveCam in Chapter2, Chapter 3 describes how to quickly set up thedLAN LiveCam with default values. In Chapter 4, youwill then learn in detail how you can successfully bring

When setting up the camera,make ABSOLUTELY certain thatneighbouring public or privateproperty or strangers are not be-ing recorded. Only your propertyand private space may be moni-tored with the camera.

2.2.1 dLAN Cockpit AppdLAN Cockpit App is devolo's free app for keepingan eye on your dLAN home network at all times viasmartphone or tablet even when you're away. Smart-phones and tablet can connect to the dLAN LiveCam athome via the mobile phone network (3G/4G) or wire-less LAN.

2 IntroductiondLAN is an intelligent, secure technology that lets youset up a home network easily, quickly and economical-ly via your household electrical wiring, without theneed for complex and expensive dedicated cabling.

2.1 What exactly is dLAN? dLAN (direct Local Area Network) uses the householdpower grid to transfer data between computersequipped with suitable adapters and other networkcomponents. As a result, any power outlet can be usedas a network access point. The data is modulated priorto transfer and sent as a signal via household powerlines. State-of-the-art technology ensures that thepower and data networks do not interfere with one an-other. Networking via dLAN is fast and secure. Thedata is encrypted using a key to prevent easy intercep-tion by third parties.

Connecting the dLAN LiveCam

� Connect the dLAN LiveCam to the mains supplyusing the included power cable.

� In order to set up a dLAN AV network or addanother dLAN AV adapter, proceed as follows:

� Connect the dLAN AV adapter via theincluded network cable to a network jack onyour router or to another network component.

� Plug the dLAN AV adapter into an availableelectrical outlet.

� Once you have connected the dLAN LiveCam andat least one dLAN AV adapter as described above,your dLAN AV network has been set up. To secureyour dLAN AV network, continue with the config-uration of your network. To do so, continue read-ing in Chapters 4.5.1 Installing the softwareand 5 dLAN network.

Installing the devolo app and adding the camera

� Download dLAN Cockpit to your smartphone ortablet from the corresponding store.

3 Quick startFollow the steps listed below to quickly set up thedLAN LiveCam in the standard environment. The de-fault settings for the dLAN LiveCam are:

� Resolution: 640*480 pixel

� View: Interior

� Image orientation: Normal

� Infrared mode: Automatic

Setting up/installing the dLAN LiveCam

The dLAN LiveCam can be installed and set up in vari-ous ways:

� Wall mounting

� Installation on a camera base

� Setting up the dLAN LiveCam on a level surface

For more information on setup and installa-tion, refer to Chapter 4.4 Setup instruc-tions.

name or on the preview of the dLAN LiveCamtakes you to the live image.

Tapping the symbol takes you to the settingsmenu of the dLAN LiveCam.

You can find the devolo app quickest by click-ing on the magnifying glass in the store andsearching directly for dLAN Cockpit.

� On the screen, the app link to dLAN Cockpitappears. Tapping on it takes you to the dLANCockpit start menu.

� Now, to connect the camera to your smartphoneor tablet, tap the My dLAN LiveCams symbol.

� During initial installation of the camera, select theAdd dLAN LiveCam option on the bottom edgeof the screen.

Enter the corresponding string of characters andnumbers in the LiveCAM ID and Passwordfields. You can find the CAM-ID and the defaultaccess password for the dLAN LiveCam on thelabel on the bottom of the device. Confirmyour entry with Add.

For security reasons, we recommendsetting an individualised access pass-word. To assign an individualised ac-cess password, continue reading inChapter 5.3.3 Settings menu.

As soon as your smartphone or tablet is connectedto the dLAN LiveCam, the camera appears in theMy dLAN LiveCams overview. Tapping on the

4.3 FunctionsThe dLAN LiveCam has a lens, an indicator light (LED),a power outlet, a reset button and an encryption but-ton.

4.3.1 CameraIn order to allow you to align the camera preciselytailored to your objective, the outer camera headcan be turned by 270° and the internal camerahead can be tilted by 90°.

By turning the lens, you align the sharpness of thepicture and change the focus of the dLAN LiveCam.

The infrared LEDs arranged around the lens improvethe view in poor lighting conditions (e.g. darkness).The infrared mode is defined in the settings menu of

4.3.3 Encryption buttonData encryption at the touch of a button; for a func-tional description of the encryption button, please con-tinue reading in chapter 5.2 Encryption at thetouch of a button.

4.3.4 ResetTo reset the dLAN LiveCam camera settings to thefactory default, press the Reset button.

Keep in mind that all settings thathave already been made will be lost!In this case, the dLAN password is re-set to the default password.

The reset button can be pressed using the tipof a ball-point pen.

4.3.5 Power supply

You can connect the dLAN LiveCam to the mains sup-ply here.

4.3.2 Indicator lightThe indicator light (LED) shows all of the statuses forthe dLAN LiveCam by illuminating and/or flashing indifferent ways:

� Green flashing and illumination behaviour:

� The LED flashes at regular, quick intervals(0.5 s) if the dLAN LiveCam is connecting tothe dLAN network (pairing).

� The LED illuminates if the dLAN LiveCam isaccessing the server.

� The LED flashes at irregular, quick inter-vals (0.1 s/0.2 s) if data is being transferredand a smartphone or tablet is accessing thedLAN LiveCam.

� The LED lights up in orange if thedLAN LiveCam is ready to operate and a dLANconnection exists.

� The LED flashes red at irregular intervals(0.5 s/2 s) if there is no dLAN connection.

The light function of the LED can beswitched off in the settings menu ofthe dLAN LiveCam for safety reasons(see 5.3.3 Settings menu).

4.5 Connecting the dLAN LiveCam

� Connect the dLAN LiveCam to the mains supplyusing the included power cable.

� In order to set up a dLAN AV network or addanother dLAN AV adapter, proceed as follows:

� Connect the dLAN AV adapter via theincluded network cable to a network jack onyour router or to another network component.

� Plug the dLAN AV adapter into an availableelectrical outlet.

� Once you have connected the dLAN LiveCam andat least one dLAN AV adapter as described above,your dLAN AV network has been set up. To secureyour dLAN AV network, continue with the config-uration of your network. To do so, continue read-

Make sure that all dLAN AV devicesthat are to be connected to your net-work are also connected to the mainssupply. A dLAN AV device switchesinto standby mode after a short time ifno network device (e.g. a computer)connected to the network interface isswitched on. In Standby mode, thedLAN AV device cannot be accessedover the mains supply network. Assoon as the network device (e.g. com-puter) connected to the network inter-face is switched on again, your dLANAV device can also be accessed via theelectrical wiring.

4.4 Setup instructionsThe dLAN LiveCam can be installed and set up in vari-ous ways:

� Wall mounting to the sockets incorporated on theside and underside of the housing

� Installation on a camera base with the help of thethreaded hole in a common size on the undersideof the housing

� Setting up the dLAN LiveCam on a level surface

During the installation process, you will be given thechoice of installing all software components (Stand-ard installation) or selecting individual ones (Cus-tom installation).

To take full advantage of the functions ofyour device, we recommend installing all ofthe applications.

You will be asked for permission to transfer anonymousperformance data related to your dLAN adapter todevolo. The data sent to devolo pertains only to theperformance values of your dLAN devices. The data isanonymised and will be used exclusively for statisticalpurposes. By providing it, you can help us improve ourproducts. You can find the installed softwareapplications in the Start � All Programs � devoloprogram group.

Software for Mac (OS X)

The software � mac folder contains the dLAN config-uration software.

Software for Linux (Ubuntu)

The software � linux folder contains the dLAN con-figuration software.

4.5.1 Installing the softwareSoftware for Windows

Using the installation wizard, install the devolo dLANCockpit software for operating the dLAN AV adapteron the Windows operating system on your computer:

dLAN Cockpit finds all reachable dLAN adapters inyour dLAN AV network, displays information aboutthese devices and encrypts your dLAN AV network in-dividually.

To install the software, insert the included CD-ROM inthe CD drive of your computer.

If AutoPlay is active on your computer, the in-stallation will start automatically. Otherwise,open the directory with the Windows Explor-er by right-clicking on Start (or the Win-dows logo) and selecting Explorer from thecontext menu. Then start the installation wiz-ard manually.

Adapters cannot be configured whilein Standby mode.

The following section contains exact instructions onthe basis of possible network scenarios:

5 dLAN network

5.1 Security in the dLANBefore you can use the dLAN LiveCam in your dLANnetwork, first you have to connect it to other dLAN AVdevices as a home network. Two specific pieces of in-formation are especially important for this:

� Shared use of a dLAN password results in a delim-ited dLAN network.

� Shared use of the dLAN password serves as accesscontrol to the dLAN network as well as theencryption, and thereby the interception protec-tion, of the transmitted data.

Please note the following basic principle when choos-ing your encryption method:

Expanding an existing dLAN AV network with a new dLAN LiveCam (fig. 9)

If you have already secured your existing dLAN AV net-work using the encryption button, use the same meth-od to integrate other adapters. Once you havesuccessfully connected the new dLAN LiveCam, firstpress the encryption button of one of your network’sexisting adapters (1 second), then press the encryption

� During initial installation of the camera, select theAdd dLAN LiveCam option on the bottom edgeof the screen.

� Enter the corresponding string of characters andnumbers in the LiveCAM ID and Passwordfields. You can find the CAM ID and the defaultaccess password on the label on the bottomof the device of the dLAN LiveCam. Confirm yourentries with Add.

Tap on the password line so that a keyboardis displayed on the smartphone or tablet. Youcan ensure upper-case letters remain activat-ed by tapping the arrow key twice (shift lock).

For security reasons, we recommendsetting an individualised access pass-word.

5.3 dLAN Cockpit AppdLAN Cockpit App is devolo's free app for keeping aneye on your dLAN LiveCams via smartphone or tablet.

5.3.1 Installing dLAN Cockpit and adding dLAN LiveCam

� After you have successfully connected thedLAN LiveCam and another dLAN AV adapter andintegrated them into your dLAN network, down-load the dLAN Cockpit App to your smartphone ortablet from the corresponding store.

You can find the devolo app quickest by click-ing on the magnifying glass in the store andsearching directly for dLAN Cockpit.

� On the screen, the app link to dLAN Cockpitappears. Tapping on it takes you to the dLANCockpit start menu.

� Now, to connect the camera to your smartphoneor tablet, tap the My dLAN LiveCams symbol.

5.3.3 Settings menuBy tapping on Camera, you can cause thecamera to take a picture, which is stored asa preview image under MydLAN LiveCams (see 5.3.4 Menu on thebottom edge of the screen), if you haveactivated the option Use the image aspreview of this dLAN LiveCam.

Here, you determine the image quality. Youcan choose from three different image res-olutions. You can set the image quality ofyour recordings from low to high. Confirmthis entry with Apply.

� As soon as your smartphone or tablet is connectedto the dLAN LiveCam, the camera appears in theMy dLAN LiveCams overview. Tapping on thename of the dLAN LiveCam takes you to the liveimage.

The screen interface and the camera image inthe dLAN Cockpit App are automaticallyadapted to the alignment (horizontal/vertical)of the smartphone or tablet.

5.3.2 Overview pageYou can page through the list of adapters by swipingacross the screen (left/right or up/down).

Tapping the camera image changes the image sizefrom regular to full-screen and vice versa.

The house icon displays the connection overLAN.

The globe indicates a public Internet connec-tion between the smartphone and the camera.

Using this symbol takes you to the settingsmenu of the dLAN LiveCam.

Here, you determine the lighting options.Select Indoor if the camera is recording in-doors, select Outdoor if the camera is re-cording outdoors. Select Improvecontrast if you would like to record in thedark or outdoors in poor lighting condi-tions. The infrared mode can be turned onor off or set to automatic. Confirm yourentries with Apply.

Here, you reset the camera settings to thefactory defaults.

The dLAN password is not affectedby this.

Tapping this symbol turns the view of thecamera image horizontally or vertically. En-able the Mirror image function for mirror-ing the image depending on the positioningof the camera (e.g. camera head pointingdownward).

Here, you can assign an individual name toyour camera. Confirm your entry with Ap-ply.

Tapping the recycle bin deletes the con-nected camera.

Define and change the access password forthe dLAN LiveCam under Password. Forsecurity reasons, we recommend al-ways setting an individualised accesspassword. Confirm your entries with Add.

Tap on the password line so that a key-board is displayed on the smartphone ortablet. You can ensure upper-case lettersremain activated by tapping the arrow keytwice (shift lock).

Furthermore, the status LED can beswitched on or off. In darkness, the LEDlighting can be disruptive.

Tapping the camera with the arrowstores the picture in the photo gallery sothat you can also easily send it by e-mail(e. g. via Bluetooth, Skype, Google Mail).

� In the Help menu you can found more installa-tions tips and answers to frequently questions(FAQs).

� All connected cameras are listed with correspond-ing preview images under My dLAN LiveCams.

� You can switch to the next connected camerausing the Forward/Backward arrow keys.

� In order to apply all of the modified settings, youhave to save changes with Apply changesbefore you leave the settings menu. If youhave made changes in the settings menu but havenot yet saved them via this menu item, a redexclamation point appears above the menu item.

This save process also causes thedLAN LiveCam to restart. This opera-tion can take a short amount of time.

5.4 dLAN Cockpitdevolo dLAN Cockpit is a monitoring and encryptionprogram that detects all reachable dLAN AV devices inyour home network and combines them in a securenetwork. Due to its logical graphic design, thedLAN Cockpit is easy and intuitive to operate. After

In order to apply all of the modifiedsettings, you have to save changeswith Apply changes before you leave thesettings menu. If you have made chang-es in the settings menu but have notyet saved them via this menu item, ared exclamation point appears abovethe menu item.

This save process also causes thedLAN LiveCam to restart each time.This operation can take a short amountof time.

5.3.4 Menu on the bottom edge of the screen

The functions of the menu on the bottom edge of thescreen are self-explanatory and can be operated intui-tively. Depending on which submenu you are in, thefollowing functions appear:

You can always use the Refresh button to display thecurrent status of devices that have been found (if thishasn't happened automatically).

By means of the Options button or the correspondingtabs of the respective adapter, you can learn device in-formation such as the firmware version used and theindividual MAC address.

Options are given like assigning an additional name,resetting the respective device to the factory defaultsettings or removing a device from the existingdLAN network.

The above-mentioned setting optionsvary depending on the function andfeatures of your device.

You can also specify whether information on the per-formance of your dLAN adapters will be transferred todevolo.

The data sent to devolo pertains only to theperformance values of your dLAN devices.The data is anonymised and will be used ex-clusively for statistical purposes. By providingit, you can help us improve our products.

All adapters found in the network appear with asadapter icon with a corresponding product name. Theadapter in the middle of the dLAN network identifiedwith the symbol shown here symbolises your locallyconnected device. If you have multiple dLAN devicesconnected locally, you can jump back and forthbetween them. Clicking an adapter icon with themouse enables the corresponding dLAN AV device andhighlights it.

The coloured connecting lines of the adapters illustratethe current transmission quality:

� Green: the network connection is suitable for HDvideo streaming.

� Orange: the network connection is suitable forSD video streaming and online gaming.

� Red: the network connection is suitable for simpledata transfer and Internet access.

If data transmission from one device to another is ac-tually taking place, the data rate is displayed on the re-spectively highlighted adapter.

Settings and functions

You can configure settings for the respectively high-lighted device or for the network

� via the buttons at the bottom edge of the screen

� or via tabs arranged at the side of each adapter.

from the label on the housing. Enter it now in theSecurity ID field and confirm with OK. If a security IDis correct and the device can be reached in the dLANnetwork, it will be added to your network of configuredadapters and also displayed in the program.

Entering a network password

After you have added all the dLAN devices you want toyour dLAN network, select the Change passwordbutton to assign a shared network password that willapply for all registered adapters in your personal homenetwork.

You can choose between your own password, a ran-dom password and the default password. To defineyour own password with a length of at least eight char-acters, enter this into the Network password textfield. Alternatively, you can have a randomly selected,highly secure password assigned using the Generatesecure password button. Use the Factory defaultpassword button to reset the dLAN adapter to the de-fault password. Normally, the display of the passwordis hidden for security reasons. If you enable the optionShow characters, the current password is displayedin legible form in the text field.

The Troubleshooting Guide includes installation in-structions and information about how to connect yourdevices optimally with one another.

5.4.1 Encrypting a network with dLAN Cockpit

If you use dLAN AV devices without an encryptionbutton, data can be encrypted only viadLAN Cockpit.

Before the networking procedure, notethe security IDs of all dLAN AV adapt-ers. This unique identifier of each dLANdevice is located on the label on thehousing. It consists of 4 x 4 letters sep-arated by dashes (e.g. ANJR-KMOR-KSHT-QRUV). Ensure that all dLANadapters are connected to the powergrid and computers or other networkcomponents as appropriate.

Scan for local adapter

After dLAN Cockpit is started, it searches for the dLANadapter connected directly to your computer first.

Adding an adapter

Add all the dLAN devices you want to your dLANnetwork by selecting the Add adapter button. Youwill need the 16-character security IDs of the adapters

The factory default password isHomePlugAV. Assigning a specificpassword to a single adapter willexclude it from the remaining dLANnetwork.

If dLAN Cockpit is called up again later after a suc-cessful initial installation, for example to integrate anew adapter into a network, the application remem-bers the devices that were entered earlier. Enter thenew device as described in the Adding an adaptersection. The current network password is assignedautomatically to the newly added device.

� Do not insert any objects into the openings of thedevice.

� Do not keep the device in direct sunlight.

� Slots and openings on the case serve as ventila-tion. Never block or cover them.

� Never set up the device near a heater or radiator.

� The device should be located only where sufficientventilation can be ensured.

� Disconnect the device from the power supply gridbefore cleaning. Use a moist towel to clean thedevice. Never use water, paint thinner, benzene,alcohol or other strong cleaning agents whencleaning the device, as these could damage thecase.

� Never use the device with a power supply thatdoes not meet the specifications provided on therating plate. If you do not know what type ofpower supply you have at home, contact yourdealer or energy supplier.

� In the event of damage, disconnect the devicefrom the power supply grid and contact customerservice. This applies, for example, if

� the power cable or plug is damaged.

� liquid has been spilled on the device orobjects have fallen into the device.

� the device has been exposed to rain or water.

6 Appendix

6.1 Important safety instructionsAll safety and operating instructions should be readand understood before using the device, and should bekept for future reference.

� Never open the device. There are no user-servi-ceable parts inside the device.

Do not try to service this productyourself! Contact qualified technicianseach and every time your device needsmaintenance. There is a risk of electricshock!

� Use the device in a dry location only.

� Always use the included network cable to connectthe device.

The outlet must be within reach of theconnected network devices. The adap-ter and the network devices must beeasily accessible.

� To switch the device off, pull the power plug.

� To disconnect the device from the power supplygrid, pull the power plug.

1 Warranty coverage

a) The warranty covers the equipment delivered and all its parts.Parts will, at devolo's sole discretion, be replaced or repairedfree of charge if, despite proven proper handling andadherence to the operating instructions, these parts becamedefective due to fabrication and/or material defects. Alterna-tively, devolo reserves the right to replace the defective pro-duct with a comparable product with the same specificationsand features. Operating manuals and possibly supplied soft-ware are excluded from the warranty.

b) Material and service charges shall be covered by devolo, butnot shipping and handling costs involved in transport from thebuyer to the service station and/or to devolo.

c) Replaced parts become property of devolo.

d) devolo is authorized to carry out technical changes (e.g. firm-ware updates) beyond repair and replacement of defectiveparts in order to bring the equipment up to the current techni-cal state. This does not result in any additional charge for thecustomer. A legal claim to this service does not exist.

2 Warranty period

The warranty period for this devolo product is three years. Thisperiod begins at the day of delivery from the devolo dealer. War-ranty services carried out by devolo do not result in an extension ofthe warranty period nor do they initiate a new warranty period. Thewarranty period for installed replacement parts ends with the war-ranty period of the device as a whole.

6.2 Disposal of old devicesTo be used in the countries of the European Union andother European countries with a separate collecting sy-stem:

The icon with crossed-out wastebasket on the devicemeans that this adapter is an electrical or electronicdevice that falls within the scope of application of theGerman Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act("Elektrogesetz"). Since 24 March 2006, these types ofdevices may no longer be disposed of with householdwaste. Rather, in Germany, they can be given to amunicipal collection point free of charge. Contact yourmunicipal government to find out the address andhours of the nearest collection point.

6.3 Warranty conditionsThe devolo AG warranty is given to purchasers of devolo products inaddition to the warranty conditions provided by law and in accor-dance with the following conditions:

5 Operating mistakes

If it becomes apparent that the reported malfunction of the devicehas been caused by unsuitable hardware, software, installation oroperation, devolo reserves the right to charge the purchaser for theresulting testing costs.

6 Additional regulations

The above conditions define the complete scope of devolo's legalliability.

a) The warranty gives no entitlement to additional claims, such asany refund in full or in part. Compensation claims, regardlessof the legal basis, are excluded. This does not apply if e.g.injury to persons or damage to private property are specificallycovered by the product liability law, or in cases of intentionalact or culpable negligence.

b) Claims for compensation of lost profits, indirect or consequen-tial detriments, are excluded.

c) devolo is not liable for lost data or retrieval of lost data incases of slight and ordinary negligence.

d) In the case that the intentional or culpable negligence ofdevolo employees has caused a loss of data, devolo will beliable for those costs typical to the recovery of data where peri-odic security data back-ups have been made.

e) The warranty is valid only for the first purchaser and is nottransferable.

f) The court of jurisdiction is located in Aachen, Germany in thecase that the purchaser is a merchant. If the purchaser doesnot have a court of jurisdiction in the Federal Republic of Ger-many or if he moves his domicile out of Germany after conclu-sion of the contract, devolo's court of jurisdiction applies. Thisis also applicable if the purchaser's domicile is not known atthe time of institution of proceedings.

g) The law of the Federal Republic of Germany is applicable. TheUN commercial law does not apply to dealings between devoloand the purchaser.

3 Warranty procedure

a) If defects appear during the warranty period, the warrantyclaims must be made immediately, at the latest within a periodof 7 days.

b) In the case of any externally visible damage arising from trans-port (e.g. damage to the housing), the person carrying out thetransportation and the sender should be informed immedi-ately. On discovery of damage which is not externally visible,the transport company and the sender are to be immediatelyinformed in writing, at the latest within 3 days of delivery.

c) Transport to and from the location where the warranty claim isaccepted and/or the repaired device is exchanged, is at thepurchaser's own risk and cost.

d) Warranty claims are only valid if a copy of the originalpurchase receipt is returned with the device. devolo reservesthe right to require the submission of the original purchasereceipt.

4 Suspension of the warranty

All warranty claims will be deemed invalid

a) if the label with the serial number has been removed from thedevice,

b) if the device is damaged or destroyed as a result of acts ofnature or by environmental influences (moisture, electricshock, dust, etc.),

c) if the device was stored or operated under conditions not incompliance with the technical specifications,

d) if the damage occurred due to incorrect handling, especially tonon-observance of the system description and the operatinginstructions,

e) if the device was opened, repaired or modified by persons notcontracted by devolo,

f) if the device shows any kind of mechanical damage, or

g) if the warranty claim has not been reported in accordance with3a) or 3b).
