A REPORT ON ORIENTATION SESSION

“NATIONAL INNOVATION START-UP POLICY (NISP)”

Orientation session on National Innovation and Start-Up Policy to students and faculty

members was conducted on 9.12.20 through Google Meet at 11.30 pm. Dr. A.Amirthavalli, IIC

DKMC President welcomed the gathering.

Dr. V. Rekha, NISP DKMC Coordinator presented on “A Glimpse of NISP”. In her

presentation she introduced what is NISP and when was it introduced by NISP and the role of it

in encouraging the students to come up with innovative ideas which will have market value and

make the young minds, the founders of Start –Up. She discussed that the initiatives of MHRD

IIC and the thrust areas of NISP. She highlighted the features of NISP. She motivated the

participants to make use of the opportunity given by MHRD IIC and NISP and DKMC to

become a successful founder and Entrepreneurs in future.

The next resource person, Dr. D.Charumathi, IIC and NISP DKMC member, presented

“Start-Up opportunities in Life Sciences’. She discussed the scope for Start-Up in Life Sciences.

She put forth various fields including agriculture, food processing, nanobiotechnology,

healthcare, waste management- solids and industrial waters, marine waters desalination,

cosmeteuticals etc. which have lot of openings for a good Start-Up. She presented about Mrs.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, the founder of Biocon, Bangalore based company which is the largest

biopharmaceutical company in India. She narrated how the founder of Biocon Started her

company by selling the enzyme papain with Rs 10,000 in 1978 and became the richest lady of

the country. She also cited the example of COVID Vaccine research company Bharat Biotech

which was founded by Mr. Krishna Ella.

Dr. M. Vasumathy, IIC and NISP DKMC member spoke on “Innovation and Start-Up

opportunities in computer science and applications. She encouraged the students by referring to

our Principal Dr. P.N. Sudha who always thinks innovatively and comes up with novel ideas and

inspires her research scholars to do innovative research works in various fields especially in

nanochemistry. She also added that Dr. P.N.Sudha has been identified as one of the topmost

scientist by Standford University. She introduced various student innovators and entrepreneurs

in the field of computer science and applications. She discussed various thrust areas in which

innovations can be made.

The session ended with Mrs. J.Saranya renedering ote of thanks to the gathering.

Dr.C.Vinothini , IIC and NISP DKMC member served as master of ceremony. Nearly 150

students benefited from this orientation session.
