Crochet Instructions For the Little Jack Rabbit

These crochet instructions assume basic skills. You should already know how to use a crochet hook, be able to crochet chain stitches – and bring along some patience.

We are living in times of knock-offs, forgeries and free-riders. Many things seem legal – although they are illegal and punishable.

Therefore, here – as a preliminary point – an important piece of advice for my own account:

The use of these instructions is exclusively permitted for private purposes only. Reproduction or copying – even in part – is prohibited. Our little “Jack Rabbit” are ©protected patterns. Private use of the crocheted items is exclusively permitted – commercial use as well as the sale in stores, online or at markets is prohibited.

List of materials:

50g / 125m cotton yarn 50g Alpaca-new wool 1 bag stuffing fiber Crochet hook (No. 3.5 / 4 / 5) Black embroidering yarn Wool sowing pin

Depending on the thickness of the yarn, the “Jack Rabbit” may vary in size. In our example we use a cotton yarn for crochet hook size 2.5 to 3.5.

For the romper suit we recommend a change of material: New wool with parts Alpaca or fine-spun sheep’s wool are excellent.

As a filling material we use stuffing fiber. This material is very light and soft, allergy-proof and easy to work.

The little “Jack Rabbit” consists of a total of 8 individual pieces: head, body, legs, arms and ears. Each part is crocheted separately.

(1-4) The beginning is the same for all individual parts:We begin with two slip stitches, stich back into the first slipstitch and crochet seven chain stitches into a ring.

(5) To facilitate counting, we recommend marking the start of each row with a colored piece of string. The number of stitches reached after each row are noted in brackets [ ].

And now – for good success!

(1) Fold the ears lengthwise and sow them shut for about 1 cm with the remaining thread.

(2) Sew both ears to the head and embroider the black “sleeping eyes” with black yarn or wool. Move all remaining threads to the lower middle of the head, knotting double and cutting them off.

(3) Put the stuffed legs with their open side on the body – in an appropriate distance and angle – and sew them all around. Baste both arms flat and in a slight angle to the side of the body. Now put the romper suit on the headless body – see the instructions on the following page!

(4) To finish, clean off the neck line of the romper suit with sling stitches.

(5) Sew the head to the body on the lower side in a small radius, “hiding” all knots and remaining threads.

Congratulations! Your little “Jack Rabbit” is born!

Romper suit: We start with crochet hook no. 3.5. Make 22 SLSR 01 Close to a ring, crochet one round ChS [22]R 02 In this round increase 2 ChS distributed evenly [24]

Pull the crocheted “ring” over the body.Switch to crochet hook no. 4.

R 03 Before and after the arms increase 1 ChS each [26]R 04 Crochet up to each arm, the do 3 ChS and move to below the arms (arm cut-outs) [30]R 05-06 Work evenly without increases [30].

Now take off the started romper suit and continue crocheting. Switch to crochet hook no. 5.

R 07 Work evenly without increases [30].R 08-17 Increase 1 stitch per round evenly distributed [40].

Pull the romper suit over the body again and continue crocheting until the leg beginnings are reached. Then divide the girth of the romper suit [40] into 4 even parts: 10 stitches for the stomach, 10 stitches for the right leg, 10 stitches for the bottom, 10 stitches for the left leg. Mark the four points with a colored thread. In each of the next 5 rows increase 1 ChS at the four market points [60].

Cast off. Don’t cut the remaining thread too short – you’ll need about 40 cm to close the romper suit below the body. The legs of the suit remain open.
